  • Patent number: 8366625
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of polymers as contrast agents for ultrasounds. The idea is to have a molecular imprint in the polymer that is specific for a given molecule or analyte. When that molecule binds to the polymer it induces a conformational change that results in an increase in the ultrasound signal, referred to as a target-bound state. The method can also be used for example for quantitative measurements of analytes.

  • Publication number: 20120197545
Abstract: Applicants have discovered new methods and apparatuses for determining the fractional composition of a component in a multi-component mixture using multivariate statistical analysis of the ultrasonic frequency profile. Applicants show the use of ultrasonic spectrophonometry to determine the fractional composition of a component in a 3-component solvent mixture comprising water, ethanol and methanol as well as determination of the fractional composition of certain contaminants in water. Applicants provide a method of determining a fractional composition of a component in a multi-component mixture comprising pulsing a mixture with a source of ultrasounds, detecting “non-linear” ultrasonic spectral data propagating through the mixture and computing the fractional composition of the component.

  • Patent number: 8227180
Abstract: An anti-reflective coating material, a microelectronic structure that includes an anti-reflective coating layer formed from the anti-reflective coating material and a related method for exposing a resist layer located over a substrate while using the anti-reflective coating layer provide for attenuation of secondary reflected vertical alignment beam radiation when aligning the substrate including the resist layer located thereover. Such enhanced vertical alignment provides for improved dimensional integrity of a patterned resist layer formed from the resist layer, as well as additional target layers that may be fabricated while using the resist layer as a mask.

  • Patent number: 8137893
Abstract: A new lithographic process comprises reducing the linewidth of an image while maintaining the lithographic process window, and using this process to fabricate pitch split structures comprising nm order (e.g., about 22 nm) node semiconductor devices. The process comprises applying a lithographic resist layer on a surface of a substrate and patterning and developing the lithographic resist layer to form a nm order node image having an initial line width. Overcoating the nm order node image with an acidic polymer produces an acidic polymer coated image. Heating the acidic polymer coated image gives a heat treated coating on the image, the heating being conducted at a temperature and for a time sufficient to reduce the initial linewidth to a subsequent narrowed linewidth. Developing the heated treated coating removes it from the image resulting in a free-standing trimmed lithographic feature on the substrate. Optionally repeating the foregoing steps further reduces the linewidth of the narrowed line.

  • Publication number: 20110187011
Abstract: A device for infusion of gas into fluid, off gassing said fluid and returning said off gassed fluid to a body of fluid, comprises an intake tube having a bottom opening submergable below a body of fluid, gas diffusion means positioned within a bottom portion of said intake tube for infusing gas into fluid within said intake tube, whereby the rising bubbles of infused gas drives the liquid in the intake tube upwardly to a top portion of the intake tube and through a cross tube section in communication with said intake tube portion, said cross tube section extending substantially perpendicularly to said intake tube and above said body of fluid to an off gassing section, said off gassing section extending above the cross tube section and allowing said liquid to have surface exchange with the air and thus removal of gasses from the liquid and being positioned above the body of water, thereby creating a head differential.

  • Patent number: 7987346
Abstract: In a multi-threaded processor, thread priority variables are set up in memory. The actual assignment of thread priority is based on the expiration of a thread precedence counter. To further augment, the effectiveness of the thread precedence counters, starting counters are associated with each thread that serve as a multiplier for the value to be used in the thread precedence counter. The value in the starting counters are manipulated so as to prevent one thread from getting undue priority to the resources of the multi-threaded processor.

  • Publication number: 20110127682
Abstract: The device is of the frustum dispersion type having a housing forming a conical cavity, sealed at its large end, tapering to a discharge orifice at the other end. There is a fluid inlet, which tangential to the cavity near the sealed end. There is a hollow, tapered helix cut cone shape in the center of the cavity, affixed to the sealed end, with the point thereof axially aligned with the discharge orifice to help enable the continuous swirling motion of the contained fluid and to act as a gas inlet port to start the formation of a gas vortex. As fluid in the cavity approaches the discharge orifice, it is accelerated because of the reduction of area inside the cavity as it tapers. The change in specific gravities between the fluid and the gas causes a swirling centrifugal force on the liquid and a centripetal inner swirling of the gas. The result is at the point of discharge, the fluid is heavily loaded with small bubbles of gas.

  • Patent number: 7948621
Abstract: A system and method of monitoring contaminant particles in pipelines. The system can include a probe for extending into a pipeline, and sampling fluid in the pipeline to ensure that a representative amount of contaminants within the pipeline can subsequently be measured. An analyzer receives the sampled fluid from the probe, illuminates the sampled fluid with a light source, and collects scattered light from any contaminant particles in the illuminated sampled fluid. A detector receives the scattered light from the analyzer, and converts the scattered light into an electrical signal that is proportional to the contaminant particles size. A processor receives the electrical signal from the detector, converts the electrical signal into digital data pertaining to the contaminant particles, and transmits the digital data on an Ethernet connection, or wireless signal to a communication network for distribution to at least one digital data processor for display and evaluation.
