  • Patent number: 7744759
Abstract: A downflow sand filter used for treating wastewater which has degraded in function from its original design is at least in part rejuvenated by flowing air downwardly through the bed during time when flow of wastewater is ceased. The low velocity air flow helps dewater the bed and leads to the removal of accumulated organic material which has clogged the pores of the bed. In accord with different embodiments, air flow is alternated with water flow in particular ways, for instance, so the water flow is sufficient to create ponding or is sufficient to maintain moisture content within the bed.

  • Patent number: 7198311
Abstract: An elevator for lifting pipe having an exposed bottom edge or an internal groove. A channel member has one end hingedly connected to a rod adjacent a first end of the rod and has a second end connected to a sector-shaped plate. A tubular member is slidably positioned on the rod and is connected to the sector plate with a linkage which allows the sector plate to move from a collapsed position to a splayed-out position as the tubular member is moved toward or away from the sector plate. The sector plate, in the splayed-out position, may be positioned underneath the bottom exposed edge of the pipe or into the internal groove provided in the pipe as the case may be. Apparatus is connected to the rod for either raising or lowering the elevator.

  • Patent number: 7157011
Abstract: Pressurized air is flowed from a wastewater leach field conduit into and through the surrounding soil, and then to atmosphere above the soil surface, to enhance biochemical treatment of the wastewater. A vent, such as a perforated pipe or a region of porous media, buried within the soil in proximity to the leaching conduit, receives part of the air flowing from the conduit, and carries it directly to atmosphere, to shorten the path through the soil. A riser and with throttle valve enables control of the amount of air which flows through the vent. The vent may be directly above the conduit, to even out the air flow in soil along the length of the conduit, where the soil surface is uneven. A plurality of slot-like vent trenches are used when leach fields are beneath paved surfaces. In another embodiment, air is drawn through the soil and a vent to the conduit, which is maintained at sub-atmospheric pressure.
