  • Publication number: 20190167342
Abstract: An electrosurgical forceps instrument in which an energy conveying structure for efficiently transferring electromagnetic energy (e.g. microwave energy and/or radiofrequency energy) from a coaxial cable to electrodes on the forceps jaws is incorporated into a compact jaw opening structure. The jaw opening structure may be dimensioned to be suitable for insertion down the instrument channel of a endoscope or other scoping device. Alternatively, the device may be configured as a laparoscopic device or be used in open procedures. The instrument may be used as a tool to perform new minimally invasive surgical techniques such as Natural Orifice Transluminal Endosurgery (NOTES) or the like.

  • Publication number: 20190167077
Abstract: A movement transfer mechanism for a surgical scoping device, wherein a rotational proximal input force is transformed into a longitudinal force that is conveyed down the length of an instrument channel of the scoping device, where it is transformed again into an operational movement of a distal instrument. The operational movement can be rotational movement, but may be any movement that changes the orientation or configuration of the distal instrument. By conveying a linear force along the instrument channel rather than a twisting force, the problems of slipping and discontinuous operation of the distal instrument due to friction between the instrument and the instrument channel can be reduced or eliminated.

  • Patent number: 10273164
Abstract: A fluid-filtering apparatus includes an upper cartridge and a lower cartridge. The upper cartridge includes a permeable fluid-filtering first tube that surrounds and extends along an axis and that defines a first-tube cavity. An axially-extending permeable fluid-filtering second tube is located within the first-tube cavity and defines a second-tube cavity. The lower cartridge includes an axially-extending impermeable third tube that defines a third cavity. An axially-extending permeable fluid-filtering fourth tube, of the lower cartridge, is located within the third cavity and defines a fourth-tube cavity. • Publication number: 20190110837
Abstract: An electrosurgical apparatus and method for performing thermal treatment in the gastrointestinal tract, e.g. to ablate duodenal mucosal tissue. The apparatus comprises an instrument having a flexible cable and an applicator suitable for use with a gastroscope, which can be deployed within a patient to delivery energy in a targeted or otherwise controllable manner. The applicator can deliver microwave energy by radiation. The direct and depth-limited nature of microwave energy can be make it more effective than treatments that rely on thermal conduction. The applicator may include a radially extendable portion arranged to move an microwave energy delivery structure into contact with duodenal mucosal tissue at the treatment region. The applicator may comprise any of a balloon, bipolar radiator, movable paddle, and rotatable roller element.

  • Publication number: 20180259480
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and devices for biomolecular detection, comprising a nanopipette, exemplified as a hollow inert, non-biological structure with a conical tip opening of nanoscale dimensions, suitable for holding an electrolyte solution which may contain an analyte such as a protein biomolecule to be detected as it is passed through the tip opening. Biomolecules are detected by specific reaction with peptide ligands chemically immobilized in the vicinity of the tip. Analytes which bind to the ligands cause a detectible change in ionic current. A sensitive detection circuit, using a feedback amplifier circuit, and alternating voltages is further disclosed. Detection of IL-10 at a concentration of 4ng/ml is also disclosed, as is detection of VEGF.

  • Patent number: 9860240
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods of employing a multi-ring encryption approach to secure a data payload. Each ring of encryption may be encrypted from a key derived from a password, such that each subsequent ring of protection is protected by a key derived from the key used to encrypt the previous ring of protection. Further, hardware-based encryption may be employed in one or more of the rings of protection to bind the encrypted payload to the hardware. Such systems and methods may be used to reduce the ability to parallelize an attack on encrypted data while also permitting password-related data to be synchronized across a network.

  • Publication number: 20170330492
Abstract: An illuminated sign comprises a source of blue light; a quantum dot-containing film that produces green light when illuminated by the source of blue light; and, a patterned blue cutoff filter in optical communication with the quantum dot-containing film configured to allow a mixture of excess blue light from the source of blue light and green light from the quantum dot-containing film to pass through the pattern. The mixture of blue light and green light produces a pseudo white light. The illuminated sign may thus comprise pseudo white letters and/or graphics on a luminous green background.

  • Publication number: 20170094010
Abstract: Technologies for communication with direct data placement include a number of computing nodes in communication over a network. Each computing node includes a many-core processor having an integrated host fabric interface (HFI) that maintains an association table (AT). In response to receiving a message from a remote device, the HFI determines whether the AT includes an entry associating one or more parameters of the message to a destination processor core. If so, the HFI causes a data transfer agent (DTA) of the destination core to receive the message data. The DTA may place the message data in a private cache of the destination core. Message parameters may include a destination process identifier or other network address and a virtual memory address range. The HFI may automatically update the AT based on communication operations generated by software executed by the processor cores. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
