A request to download a radio configuration (R-CFG) file is sent from the SDR device to the server. A determination is made that the R-CFG file is configured to control a plurality of radio frequency parameters for the SDR device solely within levels permitted by a regulatory agency. The R-CFG is then downloaded to the SDR device.

Abstract: A system includes long-term storage (e.g., flash memory) for storing sensitive data and critical components of a consumer electronic (CE) device such as an operating system (OS) kernel, private cryptographic key values, security applications, and firmware configurations, for example. Security hardware/software designates and restricts access to secured portions of long-term storage that contain the critical components. Requests for access to these secured portions are addressed by the security hardware/software, which authenticates a cryptographic authorization code received with the request. Read-write access to the secured portions is allowed for download and installation of, for example, a software or firmware upgrade if the cryptographic authorization code is authenticated.

Abstract: A system for key management and securing communications channels is presented for the upgrade of compact electronic devices via a communications channel by service providers such as the original manufacturer and, possibly, a number of authorized third party service providers. The manufacturer, acting as a trusted authority, generates and distributes private cryptographic keys to each one of the clients and authorized service providers. The trusted authority also makes available public key values that may be used to secure communications between service providers and clients. The trusted authority may add additional authorized service providers and may also revoke the authorization of compromised service providers, thereby preventing communications between clients and said compromised service providers. Accordingly, authorized service providers, in addition to the manufacturer, may provide program and security upgrades, messages, and generally any data to electronic devices via a secure communications link.

A policy file store contains policy files having at least one of a service provider section, a consumer section, and a manufacturer section that can be updated by at least one of the service provider, a consumer and a receiver manufacturer, respectively. A service provider that is associated with the policy file store provides digital cable services over the cable medium to the hosts and downloads monitor applications and policy files to the hosts over the cable medium. The MAs use the service provider section, the consumer section, and/or the manufacturer section of the policy file to alter resource contention, alter service provisioning at levels below a channel level, and/or alter fraudulent receiver identification calculations.

A work is selected through the first client. Transaction data related to a user's right to receive a work is created and stored. A request is sent to the server to transmit the work. Abstract: A self-testing video display device and method of use. A video display test program is stored in a video processing unit inside a video display device. The test program includes a plurality of video test patterns and is accessible by entering a “secret” keycode combination on a keypad of the video display device. The self-testing video display device allows a service center operator to evaluate a malfunctioned video display device at the user's location through telephone or internet. An end user may also use the video display test process to set up, evaluate, and calibrate the self-testing video display device at the user's location.

Abstract: The Routing Information Protocol [RIP] is extended to include a network-wide unique interface identifier [UID] that allows the zeroconfiguration multiple router [R1, R2] network to detect subnet conflicts. Detected conflicts are automatically repaired by the respective routers assigning and advertising new subnet mappings. The extended, Zeroconfiguration Routing Information Protocol [ZRIP] employs a NORMAL/CHANGE status flag associated with each routing table entry to resolve ambiguity between normal routing advertisements and conflict notifications. Address re-mapping and name-to-address resolution is provided to support both network address translation [NAT] and virtualized address paradigms.

Abstract: The invention provides a composite wrapping and shielding tape for use in cable manufacture. Embodiments of the composite tape comprise a single tape configuration to separate and shield individual pairs of insulated conductors housed within a cable such as a high-speed data communications cable. The single tape configurations of the invention are multifolded and assembled from foil/film laminates to form a plurality of longitudinal channels or grooves to accommodate one or more pairs of insulated conductors and a variety of cable designs. During cable manufacture, one or more pairs of insulated conductors is wrapped within a continuous shield provided by each longitudinal channel or groove, thereby separating and shielding each pair of insulated conductors and, hence, isolating or at least substantially reducing crosstalk between pairs of insulated conductors contained within the cable. The invention also provides methods for making a multifolded composite tape.

Abstract: A system and method for supplying media content from disparate sources includes tagging media content with an identifier tag useful in synchronization with additional media content, and useful in delivery of the media content. In other aspects, the media content is transmitted to a distribution mechanism adapted to distribute the media content to media delivery devices. In yet another aspect, the media delivery device is adapted to obtain additional media content from a disparate source, adapted to synchronize the media content with the additional media content according to the identifier tag, and adapted to deliver the media content to a consumer according to the identifier tag.

Abstract: A television entertainment system has two-way communication capability with a hand-held remote device accessing an external information source. It includes a television receiver adapted to receive television programming content, and a television set top box adapted to receive program related information over a broadcast channel and transmit the program related information to the hand-held remote device. The hand-held remote device is adapted to visually render information received over a broadcast channel and synchronize delivery of the program related information with delivery of related information from the external information source.
