Abstract: Disclosed are dental varnishes comprising reaction products of rosins with polyalcohols dissolved in mixtures of C2-C4 alcohols with C5-C7 hydrocarbons or C5-C7 hydrocarbons alone which have been found effective in preventing tooth decay and alleviating tooth sensitivity. Such varnishes may, optionally, incorporate therapeutic, antimicrobial and sensory enhancing ingredients.

Abstract: An optical bypass element for an optical communication system. The optical bypass element, formed of an optical interleaver, is positioned in parallel with a regenerator. Data requiring regeneration is caused to be provided to the regenerator while data not requiring regeneration is bypassed about the regenerator by way of the optical bypass element. Once bypassed around the regenerator and once regenerated at the regenerator, the respective data is recombined and subsequently routed to communication endpoints.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for implementing optical supervisory channel using broadband noise modulation are described. One embodiment of the present invention is a system for transmitting a supervisory channel from an optical fiber amplifier. The system comprises a first stage amplifier and a noise modulator module. The noise modulator module includes an erbium-doped fiber (“EDF”) that receives a pump for exciting the EDF and emits an amplified noise signal and a modulator that modulates the amplified noise signal with a supervisory signal, wherein the modulated noise signal is input back into the first stage amplifier.

Abstract: A seat assembly (10) for use in a watercraft (12) having a deck (14). The seat assembly (10) comprises a first portion (16) and a second portion (18) spaced from the first portion (16). First (52) and second (54) connector panels that are separable from and independent of the first (16) and second (18) portions interconnect the first (16) and second (18) portions. A plurality of locking tabs (56) extend from each of the connector panels (52,54) and are inserted into a plurality of slots (58) defined in the portions (16,18) to connect the connector panels (52,54) to the first (16) and second (18) portions. A mounting bracket (84) is attached to a base (82) of each of the connector panels (52,54) and perpendicularly extends from the connector panels (52,54) to mount the connector panels (52,54) to the deck (14) thereby securing the first (16) and second (18) portions to the deck (14).

Abstract: This invention relates to the management, in an interactive voice response system, of a plurality of speech technology modules. In particular it relates to an apparatus and a method for dynamically determining which of a plurality of speech technology modules to use during voice interaction between the system and a user. In prior art IVR systems each speech technology module is configured for a specific application or task. Most speech technology modules have different lexicons for the range of functions but it is the full lexicon which can determine an engine's suitability for a language. For instance, one type of speech recognition engine is preferred for certain languages whereas IBM ViaVoice is a good general all rounder. Choosing one speech recognition module according to application or function alone is not entirely satisfactory and there is a need for improvement.

Abstract: An authoring system and authoring method to assigning a real geo-spatial position to sensory-effect data representing virtual sensations, including a virtual sound sensation. The system includes an author interface for displaying a representation of a real geo-space, means for accepting the sensory-effect data, and means for an author to assign the virtual sensory effect data to a location within the displayed representation corresponding to a real location within the geo-space, such that a user has the sensation of the virtual sound coming from the location assigned for the sensory-effect data.

Abstract: A system and method for a call receiving pager apparatus, system and method utilizing a dedicated switch for providing proprietary access, billing functions and other enhanced features is described. The system utilizes a subscriber apparatus having pager or radiotelephone functions whereby a caller may call the apparatus and gain direct two-way communication with the subscriber. The caller is billed for the communication. A call receiving pager apparatus, system and method which enables two-way text messaging as well as the storage, retrieval, and recall of telephone numbers making calls to the pager apparatus where the recalls are made by way of sending a data package to the stored caller number is described. The subscriber is unable to initiate any real time two-way communication with the outgoing connection.

Abstract: A spectral tilt measurement system and method operable with an optical medium. In one embodiment, an optical signal is split into bands whose relative power ratios are used in determining spectral tilt. In another embodiment, each channel of the optical signal is modulated using an ID tone that is used for measuring spectral power of each identified channel. Spectral tilt is determined by comparing the relative channel powers across the optical medium.

Each oil circuit respective to each circuit breaker includes a respective filter and circulation pump. However, all pumps in the plural phase power system, for example, are driven by the same motor and drive line whereby a fluid condition or circulation interruption of one oil circuit that requires termination of pump operation in the one oil circuit terminates the pump operation in all oil circuits. Pump motor power is preferably drawn from an energy source that may be independent of that served by the transmission and/or distribution power source.

Abstract: A method for providing a wireless telephone service includes providing a wireless handset having an associated telephone number, and a dedicated programmable wireless switch coupled to a public switched telephone network and a billing server. The handset communicates with the switch to place and receive calls to and from selected telephone numbers on respective ones of a secured list, and optionally, a dependent list. Two billing accounts are associated with the handset, a secured account having a password and the telephone numbers of the secured list associated with it, and a dependent account having a password and the telephone numbers of the dependent list, if any, associated with it. Completed incoming calls to or from the handset in which the telephone number of the caller or the number being called corresponds to a number of the secured and dependent lists are debited to the secured and dependent accounts, respectively, and calls to and from other numbers are billed to the dependent account.

Abstract: A voice processing system is disclosed having a first interface for receiving telephone calls from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and application software for processing received PSTN telephone calls. The voice processing system supports an API to allow the first interface to inform the application software of the presence of the call. The voice processing system further has a second interface for receiving telephone calls from an internet protocol (IP) network, and a signaling subsystem for routing an IP call from the second interface to the application software. This signaling subsystem uses the same API as is used to inform the application software about PSTN calls. Therefore, it is transparent to the application software whether an incoming call has been received from the IP network rather than the PSTN.

Abstract: A voice processing system, method and computer program product therefor, allows telephone callers without computers to access World Wide Web pages from the Internet. Usual graphical-based Hyper-Text Mark-Up language (HTML) commands are interspersed with special HTML tags including the commands and data for forming a voice application, which, when run on the voice processing system, provides a voice browser for allowing telephone callers to access Web pages. The voice application tags are provided together with the remainder of the HTML document, thus facilitating editing of the combined data. This helps to keep the graphical browser and voice browser versions of the same data set synchronized.

Abstract: An authoring system for assigning geo-spatial position to sensory-effect data is disclosed. The sensory-effect data can include one or more of the group of alpha numeric data, image data, sound data, smell data, temperature data, humidity data, wind data, pressure date and light data. The alphanumeric data may comprise computer readable code for, in use, instructing the system to control presentation of the sound, image, smell, humidity, wind, pressure, or light data to an exposee. The authoring system may comprise a user interface on which the geo-space is represented, the interface being arranged in a manner such as to enable, in use, a user to assign the geo-spatial position to the data by placing and manipulating markers on the interface. The authoring system preferably comprises means for defining relationships between markers.
