  • Patent number: 7302585
Abstract: The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a computer system which employs a trusted display processor (260), which has a trusted processor (300) and trusted memory (305, 315, 335, 345) physically and functionally distinct from the processor and memory of the computer system. The trusted display processor (260) is immune to unauthorised modification or inspection of internal data. It is physical to prevent forgery, tamper-resistant to prevent counterfeiting, and has crypto functions (340) to securely communicate at a distance. The trusted display processor (260) interacts with a user's smartcard (122) in order to extract and display a trusted image, or seal (1000), generate a digital signature of the bitmap of a document image and control the video memory (315) so that other processes of the computer system cannot subvert the image during the signing process. The user interacts with the trusted display processor via a trusted switch (135).

  • Patent number: 7270342
Abstract: A vehicle suspension axle wrap is a composite tubular structure of cast or forged shells of part-tubular shape. The shells are assembled into a tubular form and welded together at juxtaposed edges. The shells can be cast or forged accurately to shape and profile to provide an improved quality axle wrap. Wall thickness variations can be designed into the shells. The juxtaposed edges are shaped to space the welding at the edges from the interior of the assembled axle wrap. The edges are beveled adjacent the external circumferential surfaces of the shells to provide a V-shaped groove at which the welding is made. There is a stepped engagement at the edges between the V-shaped groove and the internal surface of the axle wrap to prevent the welding from extending to the internal surface. Each shell is formed with an aperture at which a welded joint can be made between the axle wrap and an axle.

  • Publication number: 20070145704
Abstract: A hollow vehicle suspension beam has opposed side walls formed with recesses in which an axle wrap is located and secured by welded jointing internally and externally of the opposed side walls to provide a strong joint between the beam and axle wrap. The beam may comprise at least one component of a generally U-shaped section the opposed limbs of which provide at least part of the opposed side walls of the beam, and the mouth of the section provides an access opening into the interior of the beam for the internal welded jointing to be made at the axle wrap. One embodiment has the beam comprised of two of the U-shaped components disposed with their mouths opening in opposite directions to provide access to the interior of the beam for the internal welded jointing to be made at the axle wrap before the mouths are closed by closure components.

  • Patent number: 7236455
Abstract: A computing apparatus comprises a plurality of hardware modules (102,104,106) and a shared communication infrastructure (110) by which the modules can communicate with each other in the usual way. In order to increase the level of trust and security in the apparatus, a trusted hardware module (120) is also provided and is connected to the other modules by respective communication paths (122a;122b;122c), distinct from the communication infrastructure, by which each of those modules can communicate directly with the trusted module but cannot communicate directly with any other of the modules. The trusted module can therefore have secure communications, for example of “unsafe” data, with each of the other modules without any of the remaining modules eavesdropping, and the trusted module can route unsafe data between any pair of the other modules, or decline to provide such routing, for example in dependence on policy stored in the trusted module.

  • Publication number: 20070106803
Abstract: In a method for managing subscriptions to a web site, a determination is made as to whether an end user accessing a web page at the web site is a current subscriber to the web site. If it is determined that the end user does not have a current subscription, an obscuring layer is placed over the web page that at least partially obscures at least a portion of thereof. The obscuring layer includes a link to a subscription server for purchasing a subscription to the web site. If it is determined that the end user is a current subscriber, the end user is provided with non-obscured access to the web site. In a further method for managing subscriptions to a web site, when an end user accesses a web page at the web site, a remote subscription server is accessed. The end user's computer automatically sends to the remote subscription server an end user identification and a merchant identification. A determination is made as to whether the end user has a current subscription to the web site.

  • Patent number: 7196886
Abstract: A resettable circuit interrupting device having a switch and timer circuit connected to the line side of the interrupting device to cause a leakage current to flow for a defined interval of time when power is applied. The timer and switch circuit comprises a timer powered by current from the phase leg of the device which is designed to operate for a defined interval of time. The timer starts operating when power is applied to the circuit interrupting device and normally continues to operate for the defined interval to time. Upon completion of the timed interval, the timer turns itself off and stays off until power is again applied to the device after an interruption. When power is first applied to the interrupting device, the timer is energized from the phase leg and causes the switch to close which connects the neutral leg on the line side of the interrupting device to a ground terminal.

  • Patent number: 7194623
Abstract: There is disclosed a computer entity having a trusted component which compiles an event log for events occurring on a computer platform. The event log contains event data of types which are pre-specified by a user by inputting details through a dialogue display generated by the trusted component. Items which can be monitored include data files, applications drivers and the like. The trusted component operates through a monitoring agent which may be launched onto the computer platform. The monitoring agent may be periodically interrogated to make sure that it is operating correctly and responding to interrogations by the trusted component.

  • Patent number: 7184641
Abstract: A new class of surface plasmon waveguides is presented. The basis of these structures is the presence of surface plasmon modes, supported on the interfaces between the dielectric regions and the flat unpatterned surface of a bulk metallic substrate. The waveguides discussed here are promising to have significant applications in the field of nanophotonics by being able to simultaneously shrink length, time and energy scales, allowing for easy coupling over their entire bandwidth of operation, and exhibiting minimal absorption losses limited only by the intrinsic loss of the metallic substrate. These principles can be used for many frequency regimes (from GHz and lower, all the way to optical).
