Patent number: 8252221Abstract: A lightweight concrete mixture (e.g., comprising cement and polystyrene foam) is introduced into a compactable mold having a mold cavity defined by plural wall structures including at least two compacting wall structures. After introducing the lightweight concrete mixture into the compactable mold, the compacting wall structures are moved such that the lightweight concrete mixture is compacted in the mold cavity. The respective positions of the plural compacting wall structures can be maintained during curing of the lightweight concrete mixture such that the lightweight concrete mixture is held under compression during curing. A compactable mold may also include one or more tubes for forming tube-shaped cavities within a building block formed in the mold. Tubes can form intersecting cavities within the building block. Tubes can remain stationary while the compacting walls are moved, even when the tubes are attached to a compacting wall.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2006Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Assignee: Lacuna Inc.Inventors: Franklin David Davies, Laurian Dobrota, Rudolf Alfred Heijden, Richard William Kay, Robert H. Patent number: 7988123Abstract: A compactable mold comprises a main mold frame structure and plural wall structures including two end wall structures and two side wall structures. The plural wall structures define a mold cavity for forming a block from a mixture introduced into the mold cavity. At least two of the plural wall structures are movable wall structures for compacting the mixture. A described compactable mold has end walls and side walls that are shaped for forming tongue and groove features on a compacted block, and the end walls and side walls are movable such that a formed block can be released easily from the mold. A described compactable mold comprises at least one tube attached to at least one of the compacting wall structures. The compacting wall structures are operable to compact the mixture by moving toward the center of the mold cavity while the at least one tube remains stationary.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2006Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: Lacuna Inc.Inventors: Franklin David Davies, Laurian Dobrota, Rudolf Alfred Heijden, Richard William Kay, Robert H. Publication number: 20100146498Abstract: Systems and methods of providing information from run-time installations of mainframe SMP/E based products. Information is embedded into a fingerprint library. The fingerprint library may then be associated with a product installed via SMP/E. The fingerprint library may then remain with the product when it is copied to its distributed location. A system administrator may later query the run-time installation and retrieve information previously only known to the SMP/E tool in an SMP/E controlled installation. In one embodiment, information may be embedded into a fingerprint library at product build time.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: BMC SOFTWARE, INC.Inventor: DAVID DAVIES

Publication number: 20090176178Abstract: A combustion apparatus such as a Diesel engine (16) in a motor vehicle (1) has an air inlet system (20,22) through which air can be drawn air from the atmosphere to the engine, a fuel supply system (28, 30, 32) for supplying fuel to the engine, and an exhaust system (34, 36, 38, 40, 42) for exhausting combustion gas from the engine to the atmosphere. A heat exchanger (48) is provided between the exhaust system and the fuel supply system so that heat is transferred from the exhaust gas to the fuel so as to warm the fuel and thus improve the combustion efficiency of the engine. When applied to a conventional layout of motor vehicle the heat exchanger can conveniently be disposed beneath the vehicle away from the engine compartment so as not to cause overcrowding thereof.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2007Publication date: July 9, 2009Inventor: David Davies

Publication number: 20080105546Abstract: Methods are described of delivering biological material, which methods include the steps of providing a liquid formulation containing the biological material, supplying the liquid formulation to an outlet and subjecting liquid issuing from the outlet to an electrical field thereby causing electrohydrodynamic processing of the liquid without denaturing the biological material. In one example, the liquid formulation is provided by removing salts from a formulation containing biological material that does not denature in alcohol and then adding an alcohol to the formulation before supplying the liquid formulation to the outlet. An acid may be added to the liquid formulation before supplying the liquid formulation to the outlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2007Publication date: May 8, 2008Applicant: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Lee Davies, David Davies, Margaret Wan, Ronald Coffee

Publication number: 20070271876Abstract: Disclosed is a method of distributing beverages or liquid food products including transportation, by a commercial distributor, or flexible bags (10) filled with the beverage or liquid food products. Flexible bags (10) are located in the bulk transport containers (30) and transported to consumers of the product in required quantities. Flexible bags (10) are delivered to a consumer, the beverage or liquid food product being dispensed for consumption ban an end consumer. Through each step in the distribution method, hazard and critical control points during distribution and dispensing are minimised, the “one way” nature of the preferred embodiment of the method minimising recovery and recycling costs at well as potential hygiene problems associated with re-use of containers currently in use.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2005Publication date: November 29, 2007Applicant: THE WATERBOYS PTY LTDInventor: David Davies

Publication number: 20070250718Abstract: In one embodiment, a storage device with biometric access includes: a biometric scanner adapted to scan a biological feature of a user to provide a corresponding extracted biometric template; and a storage engine adapted to retrieve an encrypted biometric template from a storage medium and to retrieve a corresponding encrypted content key from the storage medium. The storage engine generates a first key and combines the first key with a media identifier from the storage medium to provide a content key. Using the content key, the storage engine decrypts the retrieved encrypted biometric template. If the extracted biometric template matches the retrieved biometric template, the storage engine grants a user access to content on the storage medium.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2006Publication date: October 25, 2007Inventors: Lane Lee, Mark Gurkowski, David Davies
