  • Patent number: 7957328
Abstract: A method and system for managing change-over in radio functionality at a radio front-end in a Time Division Duplexing (TDD) system is provided. The method comprises storing one or more control commands. The one or more control commands may correspond to the change-over. The change-over may be a transmitter-to-receiver change-over or a receiver-to-transceiver change-over. The method further comprises receiving a trigger time corresponding to the one or more control commands. The trigger time comprises a timing requirement for the change-over. Thereafter, one or more control commands are released based on a predetermined condition.

  • Publication number: 20100306611
Abstract: Apparatuses of wireless subscribers that manage storage of HARQ packets are disclosed. One embodiment of a wireless subscriber includes receiver circuitry for wirelessly receiving HARQ packets. CRC processing circuitry checks an error status of the received HARQ packets. A HARQ memory controller divides the HARQ packets into HARQ sub-packets for storage in HARQ memory. The HARQ memory controller records storage locations and a storage order of each of the HARQ sub-packets.

  • Patent number: 7822150
Abstract: A decoding scheme for determining the information within a coded transmission includes a spherical decoder candidate search that reduces the number of candidate symbol combinations from a much larger number of possibly transmitted combinations. In one example, the spherical decoder uses an upper triangular matrix representation of the channel matrix as part of a recursive, cumulative cost function that provides the results of the candidate search. The candidate search includes considering symbols in a hierarchy or tree structure that represents the possibly transmitted combinations. The cost function incrementally accumulates a cost of a possible combination as the search progresses through the hierarchy. As soon as a symbol is determined to not be a valid candidate, all possible combinations including that symbol are discarded without considering them, directly.

  • Patent number: 7797605
Abstract: Methods of managing storage of HARQ packets are disclosed. One method includes a wireless device receiving variable length HARQ packets. The wireless device performing an error check on each received variable length HARQ packet, and storing within HARQ memory the HARQ packets that fail the error check. Each failed HARQ packet is stored in the HARQ memory by dividing the HARQ packet into HARQ sub-packets, and storing each HARQ sub-packet. The storage locations and storage order of each of the HARQ sub-packets are recorded for future retrieval.

  • Patent number: 7782984
Abstract: A symbol vector received from a multiple antenna transmitting array is detected using a sphere decoder. The sphere decoder is used to select from a set of candidate binary strings that string which is most likely to have been transmitted. Soft information for use in a turbo decoder or the like is obtained by considering cost functions for a set of candidate strings, including strings derived from the most likely string by flipping one or more bits thereof.

  • Patent number: 7764658
Abstract: Embodiments described herein include methods for improving the SINR, and therefore communication quality or rate, in the downlink of a cellular communication system. In an embodiment, the system is an orthogonal-frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) system. In an embodiment, a set of terminals is designated a coordinated-transmission group. The set of terminal is chosen such that the slot-allocations of the set are given special treatment to alleviate interference from other sectors or cells. In an embodiment, “zones” defined in the WiMax standard are “repurposed” to handle the coordinated-transmission, although the zone was originally intended for another purpose.

  • Patent number: 7730382
Abstract: A method and system for managing memory using Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request in a communication system is provided. The method includes storing a retransmitted burst in a memory. The retransmitted burst includes plurality of bits. One or more of memory address of the retransmitted burst and the information corresponding to the retransmitted burst is recorded in a location table. The location table records memory addresses and the information corresponding to a plurality of bursts stored in the memory. The method further includes determining one or more preceding bursts corresponding to the retransmitted burst stored in the memory using location table. Thereafter, a combined burst is generated using the retransmitted burst and one or more preceding burst, if one or more preceding bursts corresponding to the retransmitted burst are stored in the memory. The combined burst includes the plurality of bits.

  • Publication number: 20100095027
Abstract: A method and system that allows a host system application to securely communicate with a legacy device is provided. A redirector software module receives data that is destined for a host system serial COM port. Data is secured and re-directed to a legacy device via a network port instead of the serial COM port. Conversely, data destined for the host system is provided to a device server via a server COM port by the legacy serial device. The data can be encrypted and sent to the host system via the network. The redirector software module decrypts the encrypted data and presents it to the consumer application as if the data had arrived via the local COM port.

  • Patent number: 7647547
Abstract: A method and an apparatus is provided for producing branch metrics in a LogMAP turbo decoding operation. During a forward recursion of a trellis, a set of primary branch metrics is generated. The primary branch metrics are stored in receiver form in a relatively small memory cache module and corresponding secondary branch metrics are produced by negating the primary branch metrics. The primary branch metrics and the secondary branch metrics constitute all possible branch metrics for a given state in the trellis. During a backwards recursion of the trellis, the stored primary branch metrics are retrieved from the memory cache module and the secondary branch metrics are regenerated by negating the retrieved primary branch metrics.

  • Publication number: 20100002572
Abstract: A system and method for dynamically reducing the precision of datapath modules within an FFT unit without adversely affecting the demodulation of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal. An FFT unit is typically implemented in an OFDM receiver to separate sub-carriers within a received OFDM signal. In general, an FFT unit implemented within an OFDM receiver must be designed to operate with a precision high enough such that quantization noise, introduced within the FFT unit, does not dominate the overall maximum SNR requirement of the system. However, the SNR requirement for many OFDM receivers is dynamic and, as a result, OFDM receivers often have an instantaneous SNR requirement far below the required maximum. In these situations, it would be advantageous to reduce the precision of datapath modules within the FFT to conserve power, which is often limited in wireless devices.

  • Patent number: 7609777
Abstract: A communication device comprising an ML-APP detector coupled to at least two antennas. The ML-APP detector comprises at least one Hx unit coupled to at least one LLR unit. The Hx unit generates a portion of all possible symbols that can be received and transfers each generated symbol candidate to the LLR unit which performs a conversion operation on the transferred symbol candidate to generate another symbol candidate that is not part of the special portion. In this manner all of the possible symbol candidates are obtained by the LLR unit. The LLR unit compares the symbol candidates to a received symbol to perform a cost calculation. The symbol candidate yielding the lowest cost from the cost calculations of all possible symbol candidates is selected as the best candidate. APP decoding is then performed on the selected candidate using soft information associated with the selected candidate which soft information is generated by the LLR unit.

  • Patent number: 7437657
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing add-compare-select processing using carry-save arithmetic. Data compressors that operate based upon carry-save principles are utilized to render the correct result without requiring intermediate results to be resolved. Intermediate results are truncated to ensure that the dynamic range of the add-compare-select unit is not exceeded, whilst ensuring that the resolution of the intermediate results is not adversely affected. The computation of two competing paths is delayed and only the difference is computed directly, resulting in a reduction of the propagation path through the add-compare-select unit.
