  • Publication number: 20180159510
Abstract: In a cascaded integrator comb (CIC) filter, a time-varying gain is added before the last integrating stage transforming its sub optimal boxcar impulse response into an FIR filter of arbitrary length. Make the coefficients sparse and taking them from a set of small integers leads to an efficient hardware implementation that does not compromise any of the essential CIC filter characteristics especially the overflow handling. The proposed sparse CIC structure can improve the worst case stop band attenuation by as much as 10 dB while occupying 77% of the chip area and consuming 30% less power compared to a standard a 5th order CIC filter, and reducing the overall bit growth of the filter and the amount of high rate operations. Design examples are given illustrating the advantages and flexibility of the proposed structure.

  • Patent number: 9748929
Abstract: A discrete-time (e.g., digital) filter can be used as an interpolation filter for processing an oversampled input signal, such as included as a portion of a sigma-delta digital-to-analog conversion circuit. An interpolation filter control circuit can be configured to adjust a filter order of the discrete-time interpolation filter at least in part in response to information indicative of an envelope signal magnitude. For example, higher-level input signals might be processed using an interpolation filter having a stop-band attenuation that is more stringently-specified (e.g., having greater attenuation) than a corresponding attenuation used for lower-level input signals. The filter order can be variable, such as varied in response to a detected envelope magnitude of the input signal to achieve power savings as compared to a filter having fixed parameters.

  • Patent number: 9649513
Abstract: An aerosol container has a positive actuating structure. The aerosol container is comprised of a body section and a dispensing section. The body section has an aerosol container with a valve at an end that is adjacent the dispensing section. The dispensing section has an enclosing unit and an actuating unit with an actuating channel to receive the finger of a person to actuate the actuating unit. The actuating unit fits into the enclosing unit. The actuator channel extends through the dispensing section, at least part of the lower part of the actuator channel being flexible and in contact with the valve of the aerosol container. The actuator channel can be entirely of a flexible material which directly contacts the aerosol valve or be a part of a semi-rigid to rigid material which directly contacts the aerosol valve. Upon depressing the actuator channel the aerosol valve is actuated and product flows from the body section through the dispensing section to a dispensing aperture.

  • Patent number: 9574060
Abstract: A method for immobilizing dyes and antimicrobial agents on a polymeric cover or housing for a medical device is disclosed and described. The surface may be that of a catheter, a connector, a drug vial spike, a bag spike, a prosthetic device, an endoscope, a surface of an infusion pump, a key pad, a touch screen or a handle. The surfaces may also be one or more of those associated with a infusion of a medicament or dialysis treatment, such as peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis, where it is important that the working surface for the dialysis fluid be sterile. These surfaces include connectors for peritoneal dialysis sets or for hemodialysis sets, bag spikes, dialysis catheters, and so forth. A method for determining whether a surface has been sterilized, and a dye useful in so indicating, is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9503381
Abstract: A system and method for carrying control data in a preamble. A control-data bearing preamble is defined to facilitate end-to-end labeling and control-data transport. This control-data bearing preamble provides a unified labeling scheme with minimal overhead, which facilitates greater ease in parsing. The control-data bearing preamble can be converted to/from other control/labeling schemes at the edge of the control-data bearing preamble aware portion of the network.

  • Patent number: 9432142
Abstract: A device for pre-emption in passive optical networks may include a first media access control (MAC) module configured to receive a first type of data traffic and transmit the first type of data traffic to a MAC merge module. The device may further include a second media access control (MAC) module configured to receive a second type of data traffic and transmit the second type of data traffic to the MAC merge module. The device may further include the MAC merge module configured to receive the first and second types of data traffic from the first and second MAC modules, respectively, and provide the first and second types of data traffic for transmission over a port. The MAC merge module may be configured to pre-empt the transmission of the first type of data traffic over the port in favor of the second type of data traffic.

  • Patent number: 9425984
Abstract: A system and method for using energy-efficient Ethernet to control energy efficiency in lower layers. In one example, an energy-efficiency control policy in a first Ethernet device can be configured to determine a need for transitioning of at least a part of the first Ethernet device into an energy saving state. Based on such a determination, an energy-efficiency control signal can be transmitted from the first Ethernet device to a first non-Ethernet device. The receipt of the energy-efficiency control signal by the first non-Ethernet device is used to initiate a transition by the first non-Ethernet device into an energy saving state, which in turn may initiate a transition by downstream non-Ethernet devices into an energy saving state. This process creates a single unified energy-efficiency policy domain.

  • Patent number: 9369212
Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for power saving using burst-mode transmission over point-to-point physical connections. In one embodiment, a physical layer device (PHY) is provided that includes a data detector that is configured to generate a first control signal upon receipt of a non-idle code group over an interface between the PHY and a media access control (MAC) device and to generate a second control signal when all data received from the MAC device has been transmitted by the physical layer device. The PHY also includes a laser for transmission of data over an optical network cable, the laser being configured to perform a first transition from an off state to an on state based on the first control signal, and to perform a second transition from the on state back to the off state based on the second control signal.

  • Patent number: 9121892
Abstract: A semiconductor circuit comprises a digital circuit portion, which in turn comprises a combinatorial logic block. The semiconductor circuit comprises a scan chain for loading and applying a predefined digital test pattern to inputs of the combinatorial logic block. A bi-directional communication port is adapted for writing incoming data to an address space of the digital circuit portion such as register addresses and/or memory addresses. Scan control hardware comprises a plurality of individually addressable scan control registers which are mapped to the address space of the bi-directional communication port. A method of testing the digital circuit portion through the scan chain involves writing bit values to inputs of the individually addressable scan control registers and reading bit values from at least one output of an individually addressable scan control register.
