  • Publication number: 20200236122
Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for protecting a host computer in a computer network from security threats uses local security-relevant data for the host computer, as well as global security-relevant data for other components in the computer network downloaded from a security information plane system to the host computer, to determine a security threat to the host computer. When a security threat is determined to be a legitimate threat, a security alert is issued, and then an action is initiated in response to the security alert.

  • Publication number: 20200204592
Abstract: System and method for managing security-relevant information in a computer network uses a security information plane (SIP) manager to which different types of security-relevant data are uploaded from components in the computer network and from which networkwide aggregated security information produced from the security-relevant data is download to a global security controller. The downloaded networkwide aggregated security information is used by the global security controller to control security applications running in the computer network.

  • Patent number: 9783258
Abstract: On a motorized vehicle with handlebars and handlebar mounted levers, a device includes a collar or clamp on which a thumb lever and catch slide in a groove to a desired position and are restrained by a notch, detent, slot, or other disruption in the groove to retain a handlebar lever in a desired position. Preferably, the thumb and catch are biased toward a disengaged position by a spring, by gravity, or by electro mechanical means. Spacers, additions, and handlebar extensions can all be provided with the device to allow for installation on a variety of handlebar sizes. In another embodiment, the thumb lever pivots about an axis generally perpendicular from the handlebar axis between a disengaged positon where the catch is clear from the clutch or brake lever and an engaged position where the catch engages the clutch or brake lever and holds it in a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 9232448
Abstract: An automated neighbor discovery by a base station with the assistance of an access terminal are disclosed. An exemplary method includes receiving a first message from an access terminal based on detecting an identification signal by the access terminal from the first base station in a communication system. Determination whether the first base station is a known base station is then made. If the first base station is not known, a second message is transmitted to the access terminal requesting a network identification of the first base station. A third message from the access terminal is received in response to the second message including the requested network identification. A request for identification data is sent by the second base station to the first base station via a network link based on the network identification. Corresponding apparatus and other exemplary methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9146833
Abstract: In an embodiment a software application may include a “baseline trace” indicating proper application execution. The baseline trace may include counts for various types of instructions (e.g., how many times each of a LR instruction and a MV instruction occurs during an execution of code). The finished application includes the baseline trace. Upon execution the application randomly selects which of the various types of instructions to count during execution (e.g., LR or MV instruction) to produce a “real time trace”. The application executes and produces the real-time trace. The baseline trace is then compared to the real-time trace, which is specific to the randomly chosen type of instruction. If the traces are within a pre-determined range of each other the user has a level of assurance the software is operating correctly. Other embodiments are described herein.

  • Patent number: 8020605
Abstract: A steel slab caster having a mold with movable opposing mold faces, and methods of using the steel slab caster for casting steel slabs. The movable opposing mold faces may be laterally positioned with respect to each other in a predefined configuration. Molten steel may be introduced into the mold of the slab caster. The forces exerted by the molten metal on at least one of the opposing mold faces and/or the lateral positions of the opposing mold faces may be monitored during casting at locations on at least one of the movable mold faces. The position of the monitored mold face may be controlled during casting responsive to the monitored forces and/or monitored position.

  • Publication number: 20070275876
Abstract: A method for increasing the bioavailability of cysteine within an animal by reducing extracellular cysteine disulfide molecules to produce extracellular cysteine molecules. A membrane permeable thiol molecule that forms a membrane permeable disulfide molecule after becoming oxidized participates in thiol-disulfide exchange reactions on both sides of the cellular membrane, crossing the membrane randomly via simple diffusion. The membrane permeable disulfide, within or upon entering the highly reductive environment of a cell, becomes reduced to form a membrane permeable thiol molecule. the membrane permeable thiol can then diffuse to the exterior of the cell, where it is available to reduce another cystine molecule. This process can continue cycling, producing net cumulative increase in the concentration of extracellular cysteine. This is beneficial for providing cysteine as a nutrient to cells that require cysteine for nourishment.
