  • Patent number: 8871284
Abstract: Resveratrol and/or pterostilbene are added to wines to preserve the wine from oxidation, bacteria and fungi, as well as to deliver resveratrol to an animal. The resveratrol and/or pterostilbene are also added to red wine to preserve the polyphenols present in red wine. • Publication number: 20140288560
Abstract: A surgical cutting instrument including two coaxially arranged tubular members. The first tubular member has a cutting tip and is co-axially disposed within the second tubular member, which in turn has a cutting window to expose the cutting tip to tissue and bone through the cutting window. Movement of the tubular members with respect to each other debrides soft tissue and thin bone presented to the cutting window. The second (outer) tubular member has one or more features which contribute to reduced clogging of the cutting tip as a whole.

  • Publication number: 20140289011
Abstract: Computer-implemented methods and apparatus for generating prediction markets are described to gauge business uncertainties surrounding a project with an uncertain timeline and/or an uncertain result. Such prediction markets can be used in any industry segment and across business functions, including research and development (R&D), marketing, executive functions and others. Traditional prediction markets, like equity markets, require liquidity for success. By introducing a pari-mutuel prediction input platform, the present invention describes a modified prediction market that elicits more accurate predictions surrounding business decisions.

  • Publication number: 20140075281
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods are disclosed providing for annotation of digital documents, such as html and xml documents. In various embodiments, virtual note-paper can be generated with a background-image that is a facsimile of a reviewer-selected portion of a digital document. Annotations can be made on the facsimile and attached to the digital document in a location chosen by the reviewer. The annotations can be typed (e.g., via keyboard input device) or drawn (e.g., via mouse, finger or stylus) on the virtual note-paper.

  • Publication number: 20090270894
Abstract: A surgical cutting instrument comprises an outer tubular member and an inner tubular member. The outer tubular member includes a proximal section, an intermediate section, a distal section, and a side wall. The side wall defines a central lumen extending from the proximal section to the distal section. The side wall also includes means for conducting fluid within a sidewall of the outer tubular member from the proximal section to the distal section and includes a distal opening positioned to direct fluid at the bur and a treatment site. The inner tubular member is rotatably received within the central lumen. A distal end of the inner tubular member forms a bur extending distally beyond, and exposed relative to, the distal section of the outer tubular member.

  • Publication number: 20080268117
Abstract: Oils are washed directly with a lower alcohol to remove cholesterol and other contaminants. The washing is effected at a temperature sufficiently low that the alcohol and oil remain immiscible. The composition is then heated to form a single phase. The solution is then cooled to below 10° C. to separate the alcohol and oil phases. Undesirable components, such as cholesterol, organic contaminants, and heavy metals remain in the alcohol phase, separate from the pure oil.
