  • Patent number: 7693501
Abstract: Techniques are described that can be used to reduce interference in a desired channel by one or more other channels. A radio includes a level detect logic that is responsive to both the frequency offset and amplitude of undesired signals and sets the gain applied to received signals based on the offset frequency and determined amplitude of undesired signals. For example, detection of a signal amplitude in an interfering signal in a channel adjacent to the desired channel may be made. Detection of a signal amplitude in an interfering signal in a channel other than the adjacent channel and desired channel may also be made. Based on detection of one or more interfering channel, a gain of an input signal may be adjusted. Interference arising from at least spectral re-growth of noise and clipping noise may be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20070047416
Abstract: A pulse generator is provided for generating pulses with a selectable variable width and/or delay. The pulse generator comprises an oscillator and a selecting arrangement for selecting how many of a first group of delay elements are connected in series for delaying the oscillator signal. Identical delay elements are connected in series to form a second group. A measuring circuit repeatedly measures the delay provided by the second group, for example providing output pulses whose width or duration is equal to the delay. A reference pulse generator generates a series of reference pulses, each of which is a predetermined fraction of the oscillator period. A control circuit compares the measurement and reference pulses to generate an error signal that is fed back to timing delay control inputs of all the delay elements such that the widths of the measurement and reference pulses are made substantially equal to each other.

  • Publication number: 20060281431
Abstract: A radio frequency tuner comprises one or more tracking filters ahead of at least one frequency changer. A controller has a filter alignment mode and a reception mode. Each filter has one or more resonant networks comprising an inductance and a switched capacitor network which is digitally controlled for selecting the network resonant frequency. In the alignment mode, the controller determines the difference between the nominal and actual capacitances of the network for achieving a known resonant frequency in order to determine a correction factor for the capacitor network. The correction factor is then used during normal reception by the tuner.

  • Publication number: 20060280264
Abstract: A variable signal delaying circuit comprising an analog delay line having a control input for controlling the variable delay. A phase detector compares the input and output signals of the delaying circuit and supplies an output signal to a charge pump and integrator. A pulse stream generating arrangement produces pulse streams of different pulse widths and pulse control logic controls a selector for selecting any one of the pulse streams. In a first mode of operation, the control logic monitors the charge pump/filter output and selects the pulse stream which minimizes change in the output. The selection is fixed and the output of the charge pump/filter is then supplied as a correction signal to the control input of the analog delay line. Such an arrangement may be used to maintain minimum phase imbalance in I and Q signal paths of a quadrature frequency converter.

  • Publication number: 20060085439
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for efficient loading of extensions or “plug ins” into a host software program. In a preferred embodiment, extensions registered with the host software program are loaded when the host program is first initialized. During their loading, changes that the various extensions make to the host program are recorded in a cache file, including graphical changes to the user interface and non-graphical changes. Later, when the host program is again initialized, the cache file is read in lieu of loading the extensions, with the affect that it appears to the user that the extensions' functionality are fully present in the host application, although in reality the extensions are not yet loaded. Instead, the extensions are loaded when and if they are called, either by the user or automatically by the computer. This saves time upon host program initialization as the extensions, once cached, need not be loaded until they are called.

  • Publication number: 20060073798
Abstract: A single conversion tuner comprises an image reject downconverter and a plurality of tracking RF bandpass filters ahead of the downconverter for providing image rejection. The downconverter comprises first and second mixers which mix the signal from the filters with quadrature commutating signals from a commutating signal generator. The mixer outputs are filtered by first and second roofing filters and the filtered signals are summed in a summer amplifier. The roofing filters may be off-chip inductance/capacitance filters.

  • Patent number: 6526260
Abstract: In a multi-channel electrical communication system 1, a method of estimating the interference level in a test channel due to the intermodulation of two or more other channels, where each channel is centred upon a carrier frequency. The method comprises, for a given m-th order mode, an initial step of identifying the set(s) of carrier frequencies, the m-th order linear combination of which gives rise substantially to the carrier frequency of said test channel. This process is carried out by a computer 2. For the or each of the identified set of carrier frequencies, signal generators 3 are tuned to respective ones of the carrier frequencies. The generated signals are applied to an input of the communication system 1, and the intermodulation interference at the carrier frequency of the test channel is measured at an output of the system 1.
