  • Patent number: 9360968
Abstract: We describe an apparatus including a plurality of sensing elements, a conductive layer, and a compressive layer interposed between the plurality of sensing elements and the conductive layer. The conductive layer can include a plurality of segments. A user applies a force to an actuator positioned over the conductive layer. The actuator changes a capacitance of at least one capacitor formed by at least one of the plurality of sensing elements, the conductive layer (at least one segment), and the compressive layer by reducing the distance between the at least one of the plurality of sensing elements and the conductive layer responsive to the applied force. The device measures and calculates a magnitude and direction of the force by measuring the change in the capacitance.

  • Patent number: 9273663
Abstract: Subsea power sources and related systems include a housing having at least one first magnetic member, an internal member having at least one second magnetic member, and at least one elastic member positioned in the housing. Movement of the one or more second magnetic members relative to the one or more first magnetic members, which can be obtained by positioning the power source in a subsea environment such that forces therein contact and move the housing or internal member, produces an electromagnetic output for powering a subsea object. Contact between the internal member and one or more elastic members causes the one or more elastic members to impart a force to the internal member to facilitate continued movement and power generation. Power generated in this manner or through other means is usable to operate a subsea kill plant, usable to kill a well or operate a subsea blowout preventer.

  • Publication number: 20160036714
Abstract: A method, a network, and a network element use dynamic packet traffic performance adjustment techniques. In an exemplary embodiment, the dynamic resizing techniques utilize different packet connections providing connectivity to same sites between which bandwidth resizing is needed. Each of the packet connections has a separate and independent bandwidth profile that governs an amount of traffic that is dispatched over each packet connection. A network element sourcing traffic into the packet connections uses bridge functionality that dispatches client traffic onto all of the packet connections or an individual packet connection. This effectively means that the transport network bandwidth utilization is only consumed by a single packet connection, i.e., the packet connection-A (even through there are multiple configured). The network element sinking the traffic selects from a single active packet connection.

  • Patent number: 9253583
Abstract: Fitting a sound processing device for an individual is automated using a computer. Fitting and customization is carried out using natural sounds without specialized audiometric equipment or audiological expertise. Software for this purpose is downloaded from an internet portal. The computer plays back acoustic signals, and obtains user input reflecting the user's perceptions of the acoustic signals, from which a hearing map is derived, representing the user's hearing. An algorithm updates the device fitting based on the hearing map. Also provided is pre-sale virtual device fitting, whereby a virtual signal processing path is established in the computer, reflecting a signal processing function of a sound processing device of interest to the user. An algorithm updates parameters of the virtual processing path, based on the hearing map. Audio signals passed through the virtual processing path are played back to the user, giving the user an acoustic indication of future device performance.

  • Publication number: 20150379037
Abstract: Systems and methods for synchronizing data between a database system and its client applications are provided. After a regular synchronization, objects' records on a user computing device may be checked against a new sharing rule. Newly shared records may be synced down to the user computing device regardless of timestamps, and all records which the user no longer has access to may be removed from the user computing device. Consequently, data on the user computing device complies with the new sharing rule.

  • Publication number: 20150343609
Abstract: One example of the present disclosure relates to a tool for releasing a cable tie. The tool includes a front member having a front indexing surface and a front extension member. The tool includes a rear member movably coupled to the front member, with the rear member including a rear indexing surface and a rear extension member. When the front member and the rear member engage a head of the cable tie in a closed state, the front extension member protrudes into an opening in the head, in an insertion direction, a front extension distance that is less than the length of the head minus a distance from the rear surface to a pawl of the cable tie along the insertion direction, and spaces a contact portion of the pawl, along a transverse direction, by a distance sufficient to disengage the cable tie.
