  • Patent number: 7397333
Abstract: A trip unit in a miniature circuit breaker includes a magnetic yoke and a bimetal mounted on the outside of the yoke. The bimetal is welded at one end to a load terminal that leads to a terminal connector and at the other end to a pigtail. The pigtail, instead of the bimetal, passes through the yoke for connection to the blade of the circuit breaker. To induce a higher magnetic field for faster tripping, a second pigtail may be passed through the yoke in which one end of the second pigtail is connected to the load terminal near the terminal connector and the other end is connected to the bimetal near the load terminal connection point. The load terminal may include at least two parts, one part including the adjustment screw and the other part including the terminal screw. These parts may be separated by air or an insulator.

  • Patent number: 7368038
Abstract: An anti-pressure system for a vessel which is subject to internal pressure created by heating or boiling of its contents, the system including first and second spaced-apart outlets for vapor to exit the vessel, each outlet having a first side communicating with the vessel interior and a second side communicating with the vessel exterior. The invention provides a reliable method of protecting a normally un-pressurized vessel, such as an autoclave, distillation vessel, boiler or the like, from dangerous pressure build-up, resulting from its vapor outlet being blocked, regardless of what other pressure release devices, if any, may be present on the vessel.

  • Publication number: 20080084266
Abstract: A trip unit in a miniature circuit breaker having a plurality of stacked bimetal elements welded front-to-back at one end and attached to a load terminal. The bimetal elements are made of similar compositions and have the same thickness. The free ends are connected to a yoke and to a pigtail that is optionally wound around the yoke in which the bimetals are received. The pigtail is connected to the conductive blade of the trip unit. To attach the pigtail from one direction, a notch is formed in the free end of one of the bimetals, exposing part of the other bimetal behind it. Or, two notches are formed in a staggered relationship such that the pigtail connections can be made from either direction. The stacked relationship of the bimetal elements allows the overall width of the circuit breaker to be reduced without sacrificing its rating requirements with one bimetal.

  • Publication number: 20080067047
Abstract: A layered mechanism for use in a circuit breaker fabricated by automated assembly operations includes a movable electrical contact mounted on a blade for movement relative to a stationary electrical contact. The major portion of the blade is substantially flat, and a handle is coupled to the blade to move said blade. A toggle spring is connected to the blade to apply a biasing force in the plane of the flat portion of the blade. The handle and blade form cooperating opposed surfaces that allow engagement of the handle with the blade so that movement of the handle can move the blade while allowing pivoting movement of the blade relative to the handle, while opposed surfaces resist upward pivoting movement of the blade when the toggle spring is attached to the blade during assembly of the circuit breaker.

  • Patent number: 7326873
Abstract: Bucket tip tenons requiring refurbishment are removed from the bucket tips by grinding. Groups of buckets are clamped on a rotatable table in positions adjacent an induction heating coil and a robotic welding arm, respectively. While one group is preheated, the other group of buckets is in a welding location, enabling the welding head on the robotic arm to sequentially apply weld buildup material to the bucket tips. After applying weld buildup material in multiple passes and sequentially to the bucket tips, the buckets are removed, stress-relieved and the weld buildup material machined to provide refurbished tenons. Upon removal of the buckets from the table, the table is rotated to locate the preheated buckets in welding locations and additional buckets are clamped to the table for preheating.

  • Publication number: 20070299720
Abstract: A system and method for examining, describing, analyzing and/or predicting an organization's emerging levels of performance during routine, special and unexpected events are presented. The tools include a methodology and processes for systematically building, collecting and archiving profiles of the performance capacity within specific organizations or across wider industry or cultural groups. The use of various unique and precise ways to observe, classify, measure and, analyze organizations and the events they are expected to manage allows for discussions of an organization's current ability to perform and the development and testing of projections or forecasts of future performance. Finally, having the option to speculate or to develop what-if scenarios extends the overall usefulness of the device described herein beyond reviews of how an organization is currently, to broader discussions of the organization's general capacity to withstand threats, challenges or attacks emerging from within or outside.

  • Patent number: 7273549
Abstract: An apparatus including a first hollow fiber membrane module, baffle assembly, and fluid source. The module includes a plurality of elongated hollow fiber membranes located generally in adjacent, parallel relationship to each other. Each of the membranes includes a generally cylindrical wall having a first end and a second end. The module also includes a module housing that supports the membranes. The module is configured to be positionable within the conduit and further to be matable with a similarly configured module. The baffle assembly is located within the conduit and configured to direct the flow of a first fluid through the module. The fluid source directs a second fluid to flow through the membranes from the first end to the second end. A predetermined substance is transmitted through the membranes' walls, to modify the concentration of the predetermined substance in the first fluid.
