  • Patent number: 9381438
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method of managing content filters within a three dimensional (3D) immersive environment without compromising the visual and interactive integrity of the environment itself. In one embodiment, content may be selectively filtered by dynamically categorizing content within the immersive environment by tracking baseline avatar patterns. Once a pattern is identified between a given content element (i.e., some element of the environment which an avatar may interact with) and avatar interactions (or lack of interactions) with that content element, a filter may be defined and applied to that content element.

  • Patent number: 9080776
Abstract: A fan apparency arrangement for an appliance is disclosed. The appliance has a chamber with a first port and a second port. The arrangement includes a fan for moving air in or out of the chamber, and a sail switch disposed adjacent to the second port. When activated, the fan moves air in or out of the chamber through the first port to create a pressure difference between an inside and an outside of the chamber. The pressure difference causes the sail switch to change position and signal that the fan is activated. An appliance incorporating such a fan apparency arrangement is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8753589
Abstract: Methane reacts with steam generating carbon monoxide and hydrogen in a first catalytic reactor; the resulting gas mixture undergoes Fischer-Tropsch synthesis in a second catalytic reactor. In the steam/methane reforming, the gas mixture passes through a narrow channel having mean and exit temperatures both in the range of 750° C. to 900° C., residence time less than 0.5 second, and the channel containing a catalyst, so that only reactions having comparatively rapid kinetics will occur. Heat is provided by combustion of methane in adjacent channels. The ratio of steam to methane may be about 1.5. Almost all methane will undergo the reforming reaction, almost entirely forming carbon monoxide. After Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, the remaining hydrogen may be fed back to the combustion channels. The steam for the reforming step may be generated from water generated by the chemical reactions, by condensing products from Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and by condensing water vapor generated in combustion.

  • Patent number: 8527795
Abstract: A method, system, and computer usable program product for improving processor performance during power supply failure are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A throttled condition of a processor is detected in a data processing system. A voltage of the electrical power being provided to the processor is reduced. The processor is un-throttled. Additionally, a frequency of electrical power being provided to the processor may also be reduced. A determination is made whether a condition that caused the throttling has been corrected. In response to the condition having been corrected, the frequency is returned to normal frequency and the voltage is returned to normal voltage. The reducing the frequency operation and reducing the voltage operation may each be performed by distinct components communicating over a data network external to the data processing system.

  • Patent number: 8444939
Abstract: A reactor module for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis having a generally rectangular reactor block with a stack of plates defining flow channels for coolant and flow channels for the synthesis reaction arranged alternately in the block. The synthesis flow channels extend in a generally vertical direction between upper and lower faces of the reactor block and are defined by plates in combination with either bars or sheets such that each channel is of width no more than 200 mm. The coolant flow channels are oriented in the same direction, and communicate through distributor chambers with inlet and outlet ports at side faces of the reactor block. A plant may contain a multiplicity of such reactor modules operating in parallel, the modules being interchangeable and replaceable. The temperature control is enhanced by allowing the coolant flow to be parallel to the synthesis gas flow.
