Patent number: 9279298Abstract: A well control method can include removing from a wellbore an undesired influx from a formation into the wellbore, determining a desired pressure profile in real time with a hydraulics model, and automatically operating a flow choking device while removing the undesired influx from the wellbore, thereby influencing an actual pressure profile toward the desired pressure profile. Another well control method can include removing out of a wellbore an undesired influx from a formation into the wellbore, determining a desired wellbore pressure with a hydraulics model, the desired wellbore pressure preventing further influx into the wellbore while removing the undesired influx from the wellbore, and automatically operating a flow choking device while removing the undesired influx from the wellbore, thereby influencing an actual wellbore pressure toward the desired wellbore pressure.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2010Date of Patent: March 8, 2016Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Derrick W. Patent number: 9273019Abstract: There is provided a process for manipulating the amount of alkyl alcohol in a product stream, e.g., such as an alkylene oxide product stream. More particularly, and in contrast to conventional processes wherein substantially all of the alkyl alcohol must be separated and desirably recycled, in the present process, a greater amount of alkyl alcohol may be allowed to remain in a partially refined alkylene oxide product stream. The residual alkyl alcohol is subsequently substantially entirely reacted to form a downstream product, e.g., a glycol ether, which is more easily separated from the alkylene oxide product stream. Indeed, the amount of alkyl alcohol in the partially refined alkylene oxide product stream can be selected based upon the output of glycol ethers, if desired.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2015Date of Patent: March 1, 2016Assignee: Dow Global Technologies LLCInventors: Tina L. Arrowood, Derrick W. Flick, John F. Ackford

Publication number: 20160047187Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for drilling a wellbore using a concentric dual drill string. Multiple individually selectively isolable crossover ports intervaled may be provided along the length of the drill string thereby facilitating pumping a well control fluid within a wellbore annulus without the need to run-in or trip-out the drill string. Multiple one way check valves may be included at various points within an inner pipe of the dual drill string to minimize settling of particulate matter during long periods of non-circulation. In an offshore arrangement, the drill string may be used without a marine riser. A rotating control device is provided, and a hydraulic power unit is located at the seafloor for controlling and lubricating the rotating control device. A pump may be located at the seafloor for managing wellbore annulus pressure via the rotating control device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2014Publication date: February 18, 2016Inventors: Ron J. Dirksen, Derrick W. Lewis

Patent number: 8541629Abstract: Glycol ethers are made by a process in which an alcohol, an alkylene oxide and a catalytic amount of an aromatic, heterocyclic amine catalyst are contacted under reactive conditions. Representative catalysts include substituted and unsubstituted pyridines and imidazoles. The process uses known oxides and alcohols, and produces more mono- and di-adduct products than does a corresponding process using a caustic catalyst. Moreover, the process can be conducted at a lower reaction temperature than a corresponding process using a caustic catalyst without sacrificing oxide conversion rates yet producing fewer carbonyl impurities.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2009Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Dow Global Technologies LLCInventors: Scott P. Patent number: 8474268Abstract: A method of managing transient events regularly seen during gas turbine operation that may cause undesirable operation and hardware damage. During certain transient operations, a lag may be seen between reference exhaust temperature and actual turbine exhaust temperature. This lag can result in an under-fired condition within the combustion system of variable magnitude and duration. Either fuel split schedules or a control algorithm can be positioned during these transients to prevent combustion dynamics or loss of flame. Combustion dynamics are known to cause damage that may require hardware replacement. Once the transient has completed, normal control operation is resumed.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2007Date of Patent: July 2, 2013Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Jason D.
