  • Patent number: 5948833
Abstract: A water-borne road marking paint composition which includes a chelating agent capable of chelating iron ions to form a substantially colorless complex is provided. A road marking produced from the traffic paint of the present invention substantially reduces or prevents yellowing of white road marking from iron and iron compound debris strewn on the road surfaces. A method of reducing or preventing yellowing of a newly-applied road marking on a road surface of a water-borne road marking paint is also disclosed. The method comprises incorporating in the water-borne road marking paint a chelating agent capable of chelating iron ions to form a substantially colorless complex. Further reduction of yellowing of the road marking is observed when a pigment dispersant is incorporated in the water-borne road marking paint.

  • Patent number: 5939514
Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation of water based coating compositions having extended storage stability. The composition includes separately stored polymeric binder component and a crosslinking component. These components are mixed prior to application over surfaces, such as, road surfaces. The polymeric binder component includes an anionically stabilized binder polymer having at least one reactive functional pendent moiety, or a blend of the binder polymer with a polyfunctional amine. The pot mix of the coating composition has extended storage stability. The waterborne road marking paints of the present invention exhibit improved wear resistance on road surfaces in terms of paint remaining on the road longer than waterborne road marking paints based on the storage stable component alone. The present invention provides road marking paints that can be applied by conventional road striping equipment and do not require special two component spray equipment.

  • Patent number: 5922398
Abstract: Disclosed are aqueous coating compositions containing a latex having pendant amine-functional groups, wherein such latex has a Tg greater than about 0 .degree. C. and is capable of film formation at application temperatures, and an amount of base sufficient to raise the pH of the composition to a point where essentially all of the amine functional groups are in a non-ionic state. Also disclosed are methods for producing fast drying coatings on suitable substrates by application of such coatings, where such coatings develop early water-resistance.

  • Patent number: 5861188
Abstract: The present invention is directed to traffic paint compositions, which dry faster than conventional waterborne traffic paints and to a method of producing traffic paint road markings made therefrom. The traffic paint composition of the present invention includes a blend of an anionically stabilized polymer binder, a polyfunctional amine polymer having an amine and an acid functionality therein and an amount of volatile base sufficient to raise the pH of the composition to a point where essentially all of the polyfunctional amine polymer is in a non-ionic state. The traffic paint composition of the present invention further provides improved storage stability.

  • Patent number: 5820993
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of producing wear resistant traffic paint composition. In accordance with the method, a traffic marking of a traffic paint composition having low GPC number average molecular weight latex binder when applied to the road surface exhibits improved wear resistance over those traffic paint compositions having high GPC number average molecular weight latex binders. The wear resistance is further enhanced by modifying the latex polymer used in the composition with acetoacetyl functional pendant moiety and amino silane.

  • Patent number: 4755811
Abstract: Touch controlled zoom of a waveform display uses a touch screen for the display surface. Function buttons for moving or expanding the waveform display and for determining the axis of such movement or expansion operate in conjunction with a rotary encoder. Expansion, or zoom, is accomplished by contacting the screen overlying a point on the waveform about which zoom is desired. Such contact or activation of the expand function button results in movement of the rotary encoder providing a gain parameter to a zoom function. The zoom function operates on the waveform display in an exponential manner as a function of the gain parameter to expand or contract the waveform display about the zoom point according to the direction of rotation of the rotary encoder.
