  • Publication number: 20130283917
Abstract: An ultrasonic position sensing system is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes an ultrasonic sensor configured to monitor the position of a device. The system also includes ranging logic. The sensor is controlled by the logic to direct an ultrasonic pulse toward the device. The logic is configured to compute the transit time and the velocity of the ultrasonic pulse. • Patent number: 8548338
Abstract: The present application describes methods and systems for use in a communications network. More specifically, a method of deploying an optical demodulator arrangement having at least one interferometer in a network that transmits an optical signal is provided. The optical signal may include one or more on-off-keyed signals and one or more DMPSK signals. In some embodiments, the DMPSK signal is a DQPSK signal. The network may include one or more of fiber spans carrying the signals. The interferometer may have a first optical path and a second optical path and a time delay is formed between the first and second optical paths. The method may involve determining a cross-talk penalty that results from cross-phase modulation between the channels, and determining a time delay value for the interferometer. The time delay value may be determined based at least in part on determined the cross-talk penalty.

  • Patent number: 8421614
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for providing reliable redundant data communications. The mechanism issues a request for data to a set of powered elements using a set of secondary communication channels in response to a reduction in a level of communications being detected. The set of secondary communication channels comprises one or more alternating current power lines and the request is sent as data injected onto the alternating current power lines to the set of powered elements. The mechanism receives the data using the set of secondary communication channels from the set of powered elements, analyzes the data to determine a set of recovery actions to restore the level of communications, and issues the set of recovery actions to the set of powered elements using the set of secondary communication channels.

  • Patent number: 8393008
Abstract: Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and computer systems for managing dynamic allocation of one or more protected memory segments for storing content of secure data are provided. Initially, the secure data is recognized as being carried by a media stream being communicated from a media-reading device. One or more protected target segments and protected target segments are instantiated, where these protected memory segments are protected from illicit access by hardware-based rules. Regions of hardware memory are dynamically allocated to hold these protected memory segments and the secure data is iteratively written thereto. The protected source segments are associating with the media stream based on a license attached thereto, while the protected target segments are associating with presentation devices based on a standard of output protection supported thereby.

  • Patent number: 8388291
Abstract: A mat lock pin for releasably holding together overlapping mats has an outer body and a rotor rotatably held within the outer body. The outer body is sized and shaped so as to snugly fit within aligned holes in overlapping mats, and is shaped so as to be non-rotational within the holes. The rotor has a central stem and a foot at each end. When the mat lock pin is in place extending through holes in overlapping mats, the rotor feet are at the outermost surfaces of the mats. Rotation of the rotor brings angled surfaces on the rotor feet to bear against the outermost mat surfaces, generating an axial force forcing the mats together. The axial forces forcing the mats together are carried by the rotor, permitting the outer body to be made of relatively low strength, and low cost, material.
