  • Publication number: 20110091204
Abstract: The present application describes methods and systems for use in a communications network. More specifically, a method of deploying an optical demodulator arrangement having at least one interferometer in a network that transmits an optical signal is provided. The optical signal may include one or more on-off-keyed signals and one or more DMPSK signals. In some embodiments, the DMPSK signal is a DQPSK signal. The network may include one or more of fiber spans carrying the signals. The interferometer may have a first optical path and a second optical path and a time delay is formed between the first and second optical paths. The method may involve determining a cross-talk penalty that results from cross-phase modulation between the channels, and determining a time delay value for the interferometer. The time delay value may be determined based at least in part on determined the cross-talk penalty.

  • Publication number: 20110068245
Abstract: An easel for holding objects such as smartphones, cell phones, business cards, recipes, and calendars. The profile of the easel resembles an asymmetric horizontal figure eight curve. The base of a display object rests on the top inside portion of the shelf or small loop of the figure eight curve and the back of the display object rests against the backrest or top inside portion of the large loop of the figure eight curve. The top of the shelf and the backrest are concave shaped to accommodate objects, such as smartphones, that have a curved base or curved back. The angle of the backrest may be adjusted to change the viewing angle of the display object. The easel is easily collapsible without any disassembly. The easel may be made from a single thin strip of material making it inexpensive to produce. The material can be recyclable.

  • Patent number: 7902316
Abstract: A polyethersulfone composition is disclosed which comprises structural units derived from bisphenol-A and 4,4?-biphenol, the structural units derived from 4,4?-biphenol being present in an amount corresponding to greater than 65 mole percent based on total moles of structural units derived from diphenolic monomers, wherein the polyethersulfone has a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at least 54,000 grams per mole as measured by gel permeation chromatography. The polyethersulfone compositions of the invention display outstanding impact strength as measured using ASTM D256. Surprisingly, the polyethersulfone compositions of the invention show enhanced impact strength relative to known polyethersulfones such as RADEL R, a commercially available polyethersulfone engineering thermoplastic comprised of structural units derived from a dihalodiarylsulfone and 4,4?-biphenol and having a Notched Izod impact strength of about 700 Joules per meter.

  • Patent number: 7870374
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for validating a connection of powered elements within a data processing system. A request for data is issued to a set of powered elements using a set of communication channels. The set of communication channels comprises one or more alternating current power lines. The request is sent as a set of instructions injected onto the communication channels to the set of powered elements. Data received from the set of powered elements using the set of communication channels includes physical connection information for the set of powered elements. A determination is made as to whether each powered element in the set of powered elements is connected in a predetermined configuration. A notification is presented to a user identifying each powered element in the set of powered elements that is not connected in the predetermined configuration.

  • Publication number: 20100290863
Abstract: A mat lock pin for releasably holding together overlapping mats has an outer body and a rotor rotatably held within the outer body. The outer body is sized and shaped so as to snugly fit within aligned holes in overlapping mats, and is shaped so as to be non-rotational within the holes. The rotor has a central stem and a foot at each end. When the mat lock pin is in place extending through holes in overlapping mats, the rotor feet are at the outermost surfaces of the mats. Rotation of the rotor brings angled surfaces on the rotor feet to bear against the outermost mat surfaces, generating an axial force forcing the mats together. The axial forces forcing the mats together are carried by the rotor, permitting the outer body to be made of relatively low strength, and low cost, material.

  • Patent number: 7761728
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for resetting an inter-integrated circuit data line with a clock line. A hang module detects that a data line that carries data between an I2C bus master and an I2C bus slave is hung, wherein the I2C bus master and I2C bus slave communicate over the data line and a clock line that carries a clock signal. The clock module increases a clock line frequency to a specified frequency in response to the detected data line hang. The pulse generation module transmits specified clock pulses from the I2C bus master to the I2C bus slave over the clock line at the specified increased frequency in response to the detected data line hang. A frequency detector module detects clock pulses at the specified increased frequency. A timer module detects the specified clock pulses at the specified increased frequency. A reset module resets the I2C bus slave in response detecting the specified clock pulses.

  • Patent number: 7673078
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for storage enclosures to communicate with one another using pre-existing cables allowing the user to dynamically attach different types and speeds of Fiber Channel enclosures together. The mechanism uses a transmit disable line and receive loss of signal line of a small form-factor pluggable optical cable to provide a communication link between enclosures before the Fiber Channel loop is setup and stable. The mechanism on the transmit side pulses the transmit disable line to communicate configuration information. The mechanism on the receive side receives the configuration information on the receive loss of signal line. The transmit disable line and the receive loss of signal line operate as a one-wire communication scheme, providing a communication link to communicate configuration information before the Fiber Channel loop is established.

  • Publication number: 20090316889
Abstract: Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and computer systems for protecting secure data by writing content of the secure data to a protected memory segment are provided. Initially, streaming media is received from a media-reading device and portions of the streaming media are identified as secure data. A data-management process to protect content within the secure data is executed. During execution, the protected memory segment is instantiated, a region of memory is dynamically allocated to hold the protected memory segment, and content of the secure data is written thereto. The protected memory segment is generally a data store that conditionally limits access thereto utilizing hardware-based rules, thereby guarding the content against exposure to unauthorized systems and to attackers. The region of memory may be allocated on CPU hardware, GPU hardware, or a combination thereof. The content may then be encrypted and released for conveyance to one or more presentation devices.

  • Publication number: 20090290709
Abstract: Computer-readable media, computerized methods, and computer systems for managing dynamic allocation of one or more protected memory segments for storing content of secure data are provided. Initially, the secure data is recognized as being carried by a media stream being communicated from a media-reading device. One or more protected target segments and protected target segments are instantiated, where these protected memory segments are protected from illicit access by hardware-based rules. Regions of hardware memory are dynamically allocated to hold these protected memory segments and the secure data is iteratively written thereto. • Patent number: 7606742
Abstract: A method and apparatus for pre-processing electronic data requests within the EDI subsystem layer and within the order fulfillment application system. An order interceptor, third-party Available To Promise (ATP) interface, pseudo-sales order workbench, and the reject acknowledgment system processes are provided within the order fulfillment application system to accomplish the pre-processing. The order interceptor performs an asynchronous availability check before a sales order is posted. The result of the ATP check is stored in an ESO, and is applied during the posting process with unique user exits. The result of the ATP check is also used to determine key information about the sales order, such as the sales organization, and division and distribution channels. The pre-processor uses business rules to determine if the ESO should be split into multiple documents for requests satisfied across multiple sales areas.
