  • Patent number: 7663057
Abstract: An ink for forming CIGS photovoltaic cell active layers is disclosed along with methods for making the ink, methods for making the active layers and a solar cell made with the active layer. The ink contains a mixture of nanoparticles of elements of groups IB, IIIA and (optionally) VIA. The particles are in a desired particle size range of between about 1 nm and about 500 nm in diameter, where a majority of the mass of the particles comprises particles ranging in size from no more than about 40% above or below an average particle size or, if the average particle size is less than about 5 nanometers, from no more than about 2 nanometers above or below the average particle size. The use of such ink avoids the need to expose the material to an H2Se gas during the construction of a photovoltaic cell and allows more uniform melting during film annealing, more uniform intermixing of nanoparticles, and allows higher quality absorber films to be formed.

  • Patent number: 7653535
Abstract: A statistical trajectory speech model is constructed where the targets for vocal tract resonances are represented as random vectors and where the mean vectors of the target distributions are estimated using a likelihood function for joint acoustic observation vectors. The target mean vectors can be estimated without formant data. To form the model, time-dependent filter parameter vectors based on time-dependent coarticulation parameters are constructed that are a function of the ordering and identity of the phones in the phone sequence in each speech utterance. The filter parameter vectors are also a function of the temporal extent of coarticulation and of the speaker's speaking effort.

  • Patent number: 7645934
Abstract: Nanostructured layers with 10 nm to 50 nm pores spaced 10-50 nm apart, a method for making such nanostructured layers, optoelectronic devices having such nanostructured layers and uses for such nanostructured layers are disclosed. The nanostructured layer can be formed using precursor sol, which generally includes one or more covalent metal complexes, one or more surfactants, a solvent, one or more optional condensation inhibitors, and (optionally) water. Evaporating the solvent from the precursor sol forms a surfactant-templated film. Covalently crosslinking the surfactant-templated film forms a nanostructured porous layer. Pore size is controlled, e.g., by appropriate solvent concentration, choice of surfactant, use of chelating agents, use of swelling agents or combinations of these.

  • Patent number: 7634406
Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, unanticipated semantic intents are discovered in audio data in an unsupervised manner. For instance, the audio acoustics are clustered based on semantic intent and representative acoustics are chosen for each cluster. The human then need only listen to a small number of representative acoustics for each cluster (and possibly only one per cluster) in order to identify the unforeseen semantic intents.

  • Patent number: 7617103
Abstract: A method and apparatus for training an acoustic model are disclosed. A training corpus is accessed and converted into an initial acoustic model. Scores are calculated for a correct class and competitive classes, respectively, for each token given the acoustic model. From this score a misclassification measure is calculated and then a loss function is calculated from the misclassification measure. The loss function also includes a margin value that varies over each iteration in the training. Based on the calculated loss function the acoustic model is updated, where the loss function with the margin value is minimized. This process repeats until such time as an empirical convergence is met.
