Patent number: 8060121Abstract: Methods and systems are described for providing a presence service that is particularly useful for mobile telecommunications devices. A plurality of outgoing presence updates are sent to a presence client. The system monitors the level of network traffic and determines whether the client is in a region of high network load. If the client is in a region experiencing a condition of high network load, the system throttles the outgoing presence updates during the condition of high network load. The level of throttling may depend at least in part on the amount of time that has elapsed since the presence client began a presence session, and/or the amount of time that has elapsed since an incoming presence update was received from the presence client. In determining the latter amount of elapsed time, the system may consider only the amount of time elapsed since an incoming non-automatic presence update was received from the presence client.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2007Date of Patent: November 15, 2011Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Yaojun Sun, Jing Qu, Joseph Schaedler, Wei-Ming Lan, Douglas R. Patent number: 7864048Abstract: A method is provided in a communication system for determining a relative position change of a wireless modem. The first location of the wireless modem is determined, and then the wireless modem reports the first location to a service node. A dead reckoning device within the wireless modem then determines a second location of the wireless modem. If the second location is greater than a predetermined distance from the first location, then the wireless modem reports the second location to the service node.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2007Date of Patent: January 4, 2011Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Warren B. Cope, Douglas R. Green

Publication number: 20100216489Abstract: What is disclosed is a method for communicating a presence message from a presence server to a monitoring wireless communication device, wherein the presence message indicates a location-oriented status of a monitored wireless communication device. The method includes receiving the presence message from the presence server and determining if the monitoring wireless communication device is in an active mode. If the monitoring wireless communication device is in the active mode, the method includes transferring the presence message for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device. If the monitoring wireless communication device is not in the active mode, the method includes applying filtering characteristics to the presence message, creating summary data of the presence message, and transferring the summary data of the presence message for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device once the monitoring wireless communication device enters the active mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2009Publication date: August 26, 2010Applicant: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Douglas R. Green, Jeremy R. Breau

Publication number: 20100205316Abstract: What is disclosed is a method of operating a wireless communication network to authenticate a geographic location of a wireless communication device. The method includes transferring an authentication key for delivery to a service node, obtaining the geographic location of the wireless communication device, and authenticating the geographic location to create authenticated location information for the wireless communication device. The method also includes wirelessly transferring the authenticated location information to the wireless communication device, wirelessly receiving the authenticated location information from the wireless communication device for delivery to the service node, and transferring the authenticated location information for delivery to the service node, wherein the service node processes authenticated location information and the authentication key to identify the geographic location of the wireless communication device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2009Publication date: August 12, 2010Applicant: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Wen Xue, Douglas R. Green, Arun Santharam

Publication number: 20100036933Abstract: Methods, media and systems are provided for generating a dynamic web portal in a wireless network, and the portal is based on personal usage. An initialized portal contains no web content. Systems include one or more network elements configured to monitor requests for resource components, to generate web portals, and to dynamically update the portals based on the requests for resource components. Data structures embodied on a computer-readable media are included for storing numerical data regarding the requests and for storing a plurality of portals. The dynamic web portal is updated to contain component resources from visited web pages, each having a respective universal resource locator (URL) or portion of code with which it is associated. Requests for resources are monitored and added to a web portal when a specified threshold is surpassed so that an updated web portal can be presented.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2008Publication date: February 11, 2010Applicant: SPRINT COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Breau, Robert Pippert, Douglas R. Green, Lyle W. Paczkowski, Samuel M. Woleben

Patent number: 7602886Abstract: A client device transmits, via a voice-over-packet (VoP) access network, a message that requests an emergency services call. An outbound proxy server receives the message and obtains a network-provided location of the client device, e.g., by looking up the source address of the message in a location database maintained by the access network or by invoking an active network location function. The outbound proxy server inserts the network-provided location into the message, leaving any client-provided location in the message undisturbed, and forwards the message to an emergency services routing server. The emergency services routing server determines which public safety answering point (PSAP) should receive the call, based on at least one of the network-provided location and any client-provided location in the message.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2005Date of Patent: October 13, 2009Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Hal S. Beech, Douglas R. Green, Shingara S. Dhanoa

Patent number: 6828091Abstract: A method for identifying therapeutically effective immunosuppressive agents by screening such agents for those which induce apoptosis in activated T cells is disclosed. T cells were isolated then activated and treating with various test compounds. A caspase substrate is added to detect caspase activation and apoptosis in the cells. Compounds which stimulate caspase activation and apoptosis are also tested against resting T cells to determine those agents which are more effective in activated T cells compared to resting T cells. Compounds with this selectivity are effective in treating immunopathological disorders such as arthritis, graft rejection, graft versus host disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome and the like.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2001Date of Patent: December 7, 2004Assignee: Cytovia, Inc.Inventors: Shailaja Kasibhatla, Douglas R. Green, Ben Tseng
