  • Patent number: 8867802
Abstract: Automatic organ localization is described. In an example, an organ in a medical image is localized using one or more trained regression trees. Each image element of the medical image is applied to the trained regression trees to compute probability distributions that relate to a distance from each image element to the organ. At least a subset of the probability distributions are selected and aggregated to calculate a localization estimate for the organ. In another example, the regression trees are trained using training images having a predefined organ location. At each node of the tree, test parameters are generated that determine which subsequent node each training image element is passed to. This is repeated until each image element reaches a leaf node of the tree. A probability distribution is generated and stored at each leaf node, based on the distance from the leaf node's image elements to the organ.

  • Patent number: 8869043
Abstract: The present invention is a system for accessing applications from even the most basic Instant Message (IM) enabled mobile device. The system utilizes the IM infrastructure of a mobile device to deliver application interfaces and manage the user experience. The invention is particularly applicable to applications with graphical user interfaces (GUI), even typical desktop or web applications. The system performs a direct transformation of application user interfaces into an IM messaging model with minimal functional distortions. The users own application knowledge and experience is leveraged, reducing application customization in the system architecture. The system also incorporates presence-driven mechanisms in the architecture.

  • Publication number: 20140307246
Abstract: Position and curvature information of a patterning device may be determined directly from the patterning device and controlled based on the determined information. In an embodiment, a lithographic apparatus includes a position determining system operative to determine a relative position of the patterning device. The patterning device may be configured to create a patterned radiation beam from a radiation beam incident on a major surface of the patterning device. The patterning device may have a side surface having an edge in common with the major surface. The position determining system may include an interferometer operative to transmit light to the side surface and to receive the transmitted light after the transmitted light has been reflected at the side surface. The position determining system is operative to determine a quantity representative of the relative position of the patterning device from the received reflected transmitted light.

  • Publication number: 20140310355
Abstract: Matches between search queries and potential targets of such search queries are automatically brokered by (i) comparing search criteria specified in the search queries with profile criteria describing the potential targets, and (ii) reporting instances of acceptable correspondence between the search criteria and the profile criteria, provided that access controls associated with the profile criteria of the targets permit such reporting in light of access levels assigned to the search inquiries. Initiators, using client applications at various remote locations, may formulate the search queries and the brokering may be performed at one or more server locations communicatively coupled (e.g., via the Internet) thereto. The profile criteria may include portions of rich descriptive profiles of the potential targets.

  • Patent number: 8858403
Abstract: An exercise device providing a fore and aft horizontal component of striding motion that is dynamically user-defined, while providing a vertical component of the motion that is maintained on a predetermined vertically reciprocating path in some embodiments. The exercise device guides the user's foot in a pseudo-elliptical stride path, while providing a dynamically variable stride length that allows the user to move with a natural stride length. The exercise device allows tall and short users to extend or curtail the stride length to match their natural stride lengths. The length of the reciprocating path is dynamically adjusted during the exercise operation without equipment adjustments by changes in the length of the stride input by the user at a pair of foot engagement pads disposed on laterally spaced apart foot support members.

  • Publication number: 20140302133
Abstract: A capsule of, for instance, hard gelatin for holding a substance such as medicine, food supplements or similar materials includes a capsule body having a closed and an opposed open end with a predetermined length defined between the ends. A diaphragm having a closed end and an opposed open end and a predetermined length there between seals off the body and provides a first compartment to hold a first medicine, food supplement, etc. A cap is applied to the body as is conventional in capsules. The space between the inner portion of the cap and the diaphragm defines a second compartment for holding a second medicine, food supplement, etc. The contents of each compartment may be wet or dry (e.g., powder or liquid.

  • Publication number: 20140301259
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are described in which dynamic voltage and frequency scaling may be used to save power when processing packets in a wireless communications device. In some cases, inframe detection may allow the device to determine whether to transition from a first (e.g., lower) voltage level to a second (e.g., higher) voltage level to process one or more packets of a received frame. For some packet types the first voltage level may be maintained. In other cases, the device may determine a bandwidth to use from among multiple bandwidths supported by the device. The bandwidth may be determined based on channel conditions. A voltage level may be identified that corresponds to the determined bandwidth and a processing voltage may be scaled to the identified voltage level. The device may be configured to operate in wireless local area network (WLAN) and/or in a cellular network (e.g., LTE).

  • Publication number: 20140304698
Abstract: A method and/or network system is able to perform an in-service software upgrade (“ISSU”) using virtualization technology while ongoing network service is maintained. After receipt of an upgrade signal such as a command of software upgrade, a new or second virtual machine (“VM”) is created in response to the upgrade signal. After downloading the new version of program to the second VM while maintaining the first version of program running on the first VM, the process for providing network management begins to migrate from the first version of program to the new version of program. The process simultaneously facilitates ISSU for a data-path module such as a line card to convert from the previous version of software to the new version of the software.

  • Publication number: 20140303509
Abstract: A non-invasive method and apparatus determines continuously cardiac output by first analysing the trace obtained from an optical sensor which has been scaled and calibrated using an electronic sphygmomanometer. From this the mean arterial pressure and time constant are determined. Compliance is determined from the pulse delay between two other optical sensors at well separated sites. Cardiac output is the product of mean arterial pressure and compliance divided by the time constant. A microcomputer provides the necessary calculations.

  • Publication number: 20140304025
Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods are described that can be used to generate an operating schedule for a controller of an energy storage asset that is in communication with a transport vehicle, based on an optimization process. The operating schedule is generated based on an operation characteristic of the energy storage asset, an energy-generating capacity of the transport vehicle in communication with the energy storage asset based on a motion of the transport vehicle, and a price associated with a market (including a regulation market and/or an energy market). Operation of the energy storage asset according to the generated operating schedule facilitates derivation of energy-related revenue, over a time period T. The energy-related revenue available to the energy customer over the time period T is based at least in part on the regulation market and/or the energy market.

  • Publication number: 20140304164
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention overcome the shortcomings of existing trading systems by providing an invoiceless trading system that creates incentives for customers to pay suppliers within a predetermined period of time, such as a settlement period. Specifically, the invoiceless trading system enables a customer to obtain a discount on orders placed with suppliers in return for an immediate payment (e.g., within 24 hours) by the customer. The supplier receives payment within the predetermined period of time, and the customer receives additional cash benefits by providing an early payment to the supplier. To communicate with and transfer funds between customers and suppliers, the invoiceless trading system may use an electronic gateway and a settlement bank. In addition to creating an incentive to embrace e-commerce, both customers and suppliers avoid the need to manually process orders and use invoices to complete transactions.
