  • Patent number: 9026819
Abstract: A method of affecting power used by an electronic device is provided for an electronic device having storage media and running at least one application. Each application interfaces with the storage media through an input/output (I/O) path executing I/O activities that access the storage media in accordance with configurable parameters of the I/O path. A run-time I/O pattern defined by the I/O activities is determined during a run-time period of the electronic device. At least one of the I/O path's configurable parameters is then modified based on the run-time I/O pattern. The method is readily adapted for power conservation by providing selections for the configurable parameters with each of the selections optimizing power usage for a hypothetical I/O pattern. Then, one or more configurable parameters are modified in accordance with one of the selections for which the hypothetical I/O pattern associated therewith is closest to the run-time I/O pattern.

  • Publication number: 20150052413
Abstract: It is provided a method for decoding a sequence of bits encoded by a LPDC code. The method comprises providing a set of bit states, including a first state and a second state, and a set of conditions to change a bit state including a first condition 5 and a second condition. The first condition and the second condition are different. The method comprises reading the value of each bit of the sequence, associating each bit to a respective state of the set according to the values as read, determining that an evaluated condition is met and changing the state of the target bit as a result of the condition being met. The method may then set the value of the target bit of the 10 sequence according to the state thereof. Such a method provides a solution for decoding a sequence of bits encoded by a LDPC code with better performance than the classic bit-flipping algorithm with only a slight increase in complexity.

  • Patent number: 8940374
Abstract: A hybrid deposition process of CVD and ALD, called NanoLayer Deposition (NLD) is provided. The NLD process is a cyclic sequential deposition process, including introducing a first plurality of precursors to deposit a thin film and introducing a second plurality of precursors to modify the deposited thin film. The deposition using the first set of precursors is not self limiting and is a function of substrate temperature and process time. The second set of precursors modifies the already deposited film characteristics. The second set of precursors can treat the deposited film, including treatments such as modification of film composition and doping or removal of impurities from the deposited film. The second set of precursors can also deposit another layer on the deposited film. The additional layer can react with the existing layer to form a compound layer, or can have minimum reaction to form a nanolaminate film.

  • Patent number: 8588467
Abstract: An apparatus and method can effectively detect both hands and hand shape of a user from images input through cameras. A skin image detecting skin regions from one of the input images and a stereoscopic distance image are used. For hand detection, background and noise are eliminated from a combined image of the skin image and the distance image and regions corresponding to actual both hands are detected from effective images having a high probability of hands. For hand shape detection, a non-skin region is eliminated from the skin image based on the stereoscopic distance information, hand shape candidate regions are detected from the remaining region after elimination, and finally a hand shape is determined.

  • Patent number: 8521660
Abstract: The present invent ion provides a condensed SVM for high-speed learning using a large amount of training data. A first stage WS selector samples a plurality of training data from a training data DB, selects an optimal training vector xt among the plurality of training data, and outputs it to the WS manager. After the first stage finishes, a second stage WS selector extracts training data one by one from the training data DB and selects training data xt satisfying optimality and outputs it to the WS manager. An SVM optimizer extracts training data closest to the training data xt selected by the first and second stage WS selectors from the WS being managed by the WS manager, and condenses the two first and second training data to one training data when the distance between these is smaller than a predetermined value.
