  • Publication number: 20210015612
Abstract: Embodiments of an expandable sheath can be used in conjunction with a catheter assembly to introduce a prosthetic device, such as a heart valve, into a patient. Such embodiments can minimize trauma to the vessel by allowing for temporary expansion of a portion of the introducer sheath to accommodate the delivery apparatus, followed by a return to the original diameter once the prosthetic device passes through. Some embodiments can include a sheath with inner and outer layers, where a folded portion of the inner layer extends through a slit in the outer layer and a portion of the outer layer overlaps the folded portion of the inner layer. Some embodiments include an elastic outer cover positioned outside the outer layer. Embodiments of the present expandable sheath can avoid the need for multiple insertions for the dilation of the vessel, thus offering advantages over prior art introducer sheaths.

  • Publication number: 20210011447
Abstract: A method for ascertaining a time characteristic of a measured variable adjustable by an actuator, wherein a time characteristic of a control variable is applied to the actuator, wherein the ascertaining is effected by means of a Gaussian process state model of the behavior of the actuator, wherein the time characteristic of the measured variable of the actuator is ascertained on the basis of a parameterizable family of functions, wherein in the parameterizable family of functions a time dependency of a later latent state, in particular ascertained using a transfer function, of the actuator on an earlier latent state of the actuator and an earlier control variable of the actuator is the same as the applicable dependency of the Gaussian process state model.

  • Patent number: 10884397
Abstract: A method for devising an optimum control policy of a controller for controlling a system includes optimizing at least one parameter that characterizes the control policy. A Gaussian process model is used to model expected dynamics of the system. The optimization optimizes a cost function which depends on the control policy and the Gaussian process model with respect to the at least one parameter. The optimization is carried out by evaluating at least one gradient of the cost function with respect to the at least one parameter. For an evaluation of the cost function a temporal evolution of a state of the system is computed using the control policy and the Gaussian process model. The cost function depends on an evaluation of an expectation value of a cost function under a probability density of an augmented state at time steps.

  • Patent number: 10806511
Abstract: Partially insulated focused ablation (PIFA) catheters using thermally conductive materials have differential radiofrequency (RF) heating and thereby allow for tailored RF application. Open-irrigated, 4 mm, and 8 mm RF ablation catheters were partially insulated by coating half their surfaces with a layer of vinyl, silicone, vinyl-silicone, polyurethane, or a composite of aluminum oxide/boron nitride (AOBN). RF ablation using catheter tips partially coated with a thermally conductive insulation material such as AOBN results in larger ablation lesion volumes without being limited by standard temperature controls. Partial insulation of the catheter tip is able to protect adjacent critical structures during in vivo ablation.

  • Patent number: 10689912
Abstract: A sealed bearing rock bit has a plurality of legs with journals formed to extend inward and downward at the end of the legs. Each of the legs has a last machined surface located adjacent to the bases of the journals and into which a seal groove is formed which circumscribes the respective journal. Cutters are rotatably mounted to respective ones of the journals, with back faces of the cutters located adjacent to respective ones of the last machined surfaces. The back faces of the cutters have annular-shaped protrusions which extend from said back faces and protrude into the seal grooves beyond the last machined surfaces of said journals extending an annular-shaped seal surface which is engaged by a seal disposed in the seal groove, leaving more of the interface space between the journal and the cutter for larger roller bearings.

  • Patent number: 10668251
Abstract: The invention provides a deflectable catheter capable of forming many variable radius spiral forms from a single, flexible, distal end section. In one aspect, the catheter employs a variable radius control wire to extend or deform a pre-formed loop structure into a three dimensional spiral-like form or geometry. The ability of a single catheter to create a multitude of shapes and sizes allows users to access to a number of anatomical areas without changing the catheter during a procedure or treatment. In another aspect, the invention encompasses methods of producing deflectable variable radius catheters, where two or more regions of the catheter having common control wires are fused or formed onto one another.
