  • Publication number: 20250140177
Abstract: A high-resolution display that is a small size suitable for mobile applications is disclosed. The display is color and so includes different color subpixels arranged in subpixel groups. To minimize power consumption, each subpixel includes its own power rail supplying the subpixel with a rail voltage that is based on a forward voltage of a corresponding light emitting diode. To minimize the area of the subpixel group, transistors of the subpixels are fabricated within a common well and the body terminals of the transistors are connected to a common well rail that is separate from the power rails.

  • Publication number: 20250142028
Abstract: An illustrative display system includes an array of pixels and a frame controller configured to cause the array of pixels to display an image frame by performing a series of successive field updates. The series of successive field updates includes a first field update in which a first write pointer circuit tracks a first traversal, during a first update period, across the array of pixels to update the array of pixels from a first to a second image field in the sequence, and a second field update in which a second write pointer circuit tracks a second traversal, during a second update period, across the array of pixels to update the array of pixels from the second to a third image field in the sequence. The second update period of the second field update overlaps the first update period of the first field update.

  • Publication number: 20250131951
Abstract: A backplane including bit lines and word lines to update a radiative state of a pixel is disclosed. The back plane includes a first delay line that replicates delays caused by a bit line and a second delay line that replicates delays caused by a word line. The replicated delays cause word line signals traveling along a first path to arrive at a pixel at approximately the same time as bit line signals traveling along a second path. The delays are added incrementally row-by-row and column-by-column so that each pixel can receive synchronized signals regardless of its position in the array of pixels.

  • Publication number: 20250124856
Abstract: A word line regulator that can control an SRAM cell during a write process is disclosed. The SRAM cell is coupled to bit lines that are driven using a reduced voltage in order to conserve power. The SRAM cell includes a latch that is powered by a power supply in a power domain that is different from the bit lines. The word line regulator is configured to output a voltage that is based on the different power domains to ensure the proper operation of transistors in the SRAM cell during the write process.

  • Patent number: 12067932
Abstract: A backplane operative to drive an array of emissive pixel elements forming a part of an automotive head lamp assembly is disclosed. Each pixel element comprises a memory cell operative to pulse width modulate a current mirror pixel drive circuit configured to drive an emissive element. The array of emissive pixel elements is divided into a plurality of interdigitated rows or columns serviced by independent row drivers or independent column drivers that may be driven by data selected to randomize the order in which the data on adjacent pixels of the same row are written, thereby effectively substantially reducing the visibility of any residual structures that may be present in the data driving the pixels of adjacent columns.

  • Patent number: 11847957
Abstract: A plurality of pixel drive circuits form part of an array of emissive elements. The plurality of pixel drive circuits are disposed to form a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns. The plurality of pixel drive circuits are organized into sets of pixel drive circuits, and each set comprises at least one pixel drive circuit. A FET of a set of pixel drive circuits shares a common well with other FETs of similar function in the same set of pixel drive circuits positioned therein, such that the variance of the threshold voltages of those FETs is substantially reduced. Each of the pixel drive circuits comprises a circuit operative to deliver a current at a predetermined voltage to an emissive device and a memory circuit operative to receive modulation data and to use same to modulate the current output of the pixel drive circuit.

  • Publication number: 20230147106
Abstract: A backplane design for delivering image data in an efficient manner to a memory cell forming a part of a pixel driver comprises a word line design and a column data register release signal delivery design that are speed matched and a complementary bit line delivery design that is speed matched to a row decoder signal circuit operative to pull a word line driver to a state to enable the memory circuits of that row to receive data from the column drivers for each column. The speed matching is effective over a range of operating temperatures because the circuit designs are substantially identical.

  • Patent number: 11250777
Abstract: A backplane operative to drive an array of emissive pixel elements is disclosed. Each pixel element comprises a memory cell operative to modulate a plurality of current mirror drive elements configured to drive one emissive element, wherein a plurality of current mirror pixel drive elements may be individually enabled by external control signals. The width W of the reference current FET of a first selectable current mirror circuit will differ from the width W of the reference current FET of a second selectable current mirror circuit. The ratio of the width W of the current source FET to the width W of the reference current FET in a first selectable current mirror pixel drive element is equal to the ratio of the width W of the current source FET to the width W of the reference current FET in a second selectable current mirror pixel drive element.

  • Patent number: 11238782
Abstract: A backplane operative to drive an array of emissive pixel elements is disclosed. Each pixel element comprises a memory cell operative to modulate a plurality of current mirror drive elements configured to drive one emissive element, wherein one current mirror pixel drive element is always operative to provide current if the memory cell is on and all other current mirror pixel drive elements may enabled subject to external control signals and the memory cell data state. The W/L ratio of each reference current FET is equal to the W/L ratio of all other reference current FETs. The W/L ratio of the current source FETs in each of the current mirror pixel drive elements is equal to the others. The present invention allows adjustment of the current density within the current source FET as well as the sensitivity of the current source FET to threshold voltage variation.

  • Patent number: 10957272
Abstract: A backplane operative to drive an array of emissive pixel elements is disclosed. Each pixel element comprises a pixel circuit drive element and an emissive element, wherein the pixel circuit drive element comprises a memory cell, a current source element, and a modulation element. The present invention improves on an emissive display by providing a backplane and modulation system that enables fabrication of multi-color or monochrome LED display systems that operate efficiently and without objectionable image artifacts.
