    Abstract: A wafer shipper utilizing wafer support rings for supporting individual wafers therein. The wafer support rings can support wafers of various thicknesses without affecting the height of the stack, and provide containment of the resident wafers within the rings during an impact event. The wafers and the rings cooperate to define voids between the wafers that act as cushions in an impact event for dampening the shock imparted on the wafers during an impact event. Likewise, some embodiments include structure that defines enclosed gas pockets between the uppermost and the lowermost wafers of the stack for dampening the effects of an impact. Various embodiments include structure that prevents wafers from “jumping” out of the wafer support rings during an impact event. Some embodiments include structure for supporting wafer flats.

    Abstract: Apparatuses and methods providing a ballast system for adjusting the center of gravity of a standardized front opening wafer container. Various embodiments of the disclosure present ballast systems that are low profile, do not require modifications to the shell of the wafer container, and can be retrofit to existing wafer carriers. In some embodiments, these capabilities are accomplished by a ballast that mounts to a kinematic coupling plate of the wafer container. In one embodiment, the ballasting can also provide sufficient counter force to the lifting forces associated with purging of the wafer container, thereby preventing “lift off” of the wafer container during purging operations. The ballasts can be removed for shipping of the wafer container, thereby decreasing shipping costs.

    Abstract: An arched top bridge upper section including a wood top section slotted to accept a string saddle that may be plastic, bone or similar material. The wood section is laminated or affixed to a lower metal section. A slot completely through the wood section exposes a top flat surface of the metal section. A piezo pickup element installed in the slot below a solid or segmented string saddle element is pressed uniformly against the metal section by string pressure on the string saddle to ensure even response on all strings. Transfer of string energy is more efficient than standard all-wood construction, resulting in greater sustain of plucked notes and a broader frequency response. An arch top guitar utilizing this bridge construction has more similar tonal and sustain characteristics to a typical flattop acoustic guitar while consistent contact with the piezo element results in even string-to-string output and response.

    Abstract: A substrate container including substrate supports, such as concentric rings, adapted to receive substrates in a substrate stack. The container includes a base and a top cover to enclose the substrate stack. A latching mechanism is adapted to latch the top cover to the base and secure the substrate stack within the container. The latching mechanism includes resilient corner flanges on an outside portion of the container, the flanges acting as springs to exert a biasing force on the cover and on the substrate stack. The flanges hold the stack within the container while accommodating stack-up uncertainty caused by the accumulation of uncertainties due to component machining tolerances. In some embodiments, a gap is created between a side wall of the top cover and the base of the container to assure compression of the substrate stack. Deflection limiters may be implemented to prevent over-deflection of the flanges.

    Abstract: An apparatus for providing described television services includes a receiver for receiving description data corresponding to an audiovisual program; a text-to-speech converter for converting the description data into a speech signal corresponding to the description data; a memory device for receiving and storing the speech signal and a corresponding time code from the audiovisual program; a mixing circuit for retrieving the speech signal from the memory device and mixing the retrieved speech signal with the audio track of the audiovisual program to produce a combined audio signal; and a transmitter for simultaneously providing the combined speech signal and the audiovisual program to a viewer. The apparatus provides the combined speech signal to the viewer via the SAP channel. The apparatus may also include a translator for translating the description data into a foreign language prior to converting the description data into the speech signal.

Similarly, a method for providing described television services includes the steps of generating description data corresponding to an audiovisual program; encoding the description data into a program signal of the audiovisual program; and decoding the encoded program signal, whereby the description data is extracted from said encoded program signal.
