  • Publication number: 20060249325
Abstract: A vehicle steering system includes a steering input device, a front steering subsystem, a rear steering subsystem, a first force transmission route, a steering control mechanism, a second force transmission route, and a third force transmission route. The front steering subsystem is coupled to front motive members to steer the front motive members based upon movement of a front steering subsystem input shaft. The rear steering subsystem is coupled to rear motive members to steer the rear motive members based upon movement of a rear steering subsystem input shaft. The first force transmission route extends from the steering input device to the front steering subsystem input shaft, wherein force is transmitted from the input device to the front steering subsystem input shaft to steer the front motive members. The steering control mechanism has a movable input member and a movable output member.

  • Publication number: 20060065451
Abstract: A self-contained axle module for a vehicle. The vehicle includes a support structure, a source for electric power, a source of cooling medium, and a vehicle control device. The self-contained axle includes a first side plate removably coupled to the support structure. A second side plate removably coupled to the support structure. A housing coupled to the first and second side plate. An electric motor coupled to the housing and the source for electric power. A motor drive controller unit coupled to the electric motor and to the vehicle control device to communicate signals to the vehicle control device such that one of the speed and torque of the electric motor is controlled based upon the signals. A gear train is mounted in the housing and coupled to the electric motor and an output shaft, wherein, the self-contained axle module can be selectively coupled and decoupled from the support structure.

  • Patent number: 6646490
Abstract: A bipolar transistor breakdown voltage enhancement circuit extends the voltage swing which can be tolerated at an output terminal driven by an emitter follower-connected bipolar output transistor operating in a high impedance state. The enhancement circuit connects the base of the output transistor to a voltage which extends the allowable high impedance output voltage swing: an NPN output transistor's base is tied to a voltage that is the lower of the output voltage or ground, and a PNP output transistor's base is tied to a voltage which is the higher of the output voltage or VDD.

  • Patent number: 4279675
Abstract: A method and apparatus for closing and sealing the end of a container having a tubular body wherein the container and closure portion includes front, rear and side panels each extending axially from the tubular body in the open position of the end closure. Each of the end closure panels may have a sealing strip defined at its outer end by a scored line with the rear panel including a closure flap-extending from the outer edge of its sealing strip. The end closure panels are folded to a flat closed position by closing jaws with the sealing strips and closure flap projecting axially from the tubular body, after which the sealing strips are sonically welded together. The closure flap and sealing strips are then folded flat, and the closure flap is welded to the outer surface of the front end closure panel.

  • Patent number: 3956975
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming sealed joints by welding layers of thermoplastic coated paperboard together. One outer surface of the paperboard layers is placed in engagement with back-up means, and the opposite outer surface of the paperboard layers is engaged by vibrating means so that the thermoplastic coating of the paperboard is heated by the vibration to weld the layers together. The apparatus and method is particularly useful in forming sealed joints for paperboard cartons, such as milk cartons of the type shown, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 3,309,841. The vibrating means may be an ultrasonic transducer of the type disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,526,792, for example.

  • Patent number: RE29568
Abstract: Carton sealing apparatus for sealing a rectangular end closure of a thermoplastic coated paperboard carton by ultrasonic vibrations. The apparatus includes an anvil, or backup member, and an ultrasonic vibrating tool. The mandrel is received in the carton with the end closure to be sealed folded against the smooth end surface thereof. The ultrasonic vibrating tool engages the end closure on the opposite side thereof from the mandrel, and, when energized, generates heat sufficient to cause the thermoplastic coating of the paperboard to flow and weld the layers of the end closure together. Ribs project from the end surface of the vibrating tool to provide a sealing pattern of "bow-tie" configuration, the ribs having various heights with respect to the end surface of the vibrating tool to accommodate changes in the number of layers of paperboard at the different areas on the end closure.
