  • Patent number: 9843720
Abstract: A system and method for accessing a media item on a mobile device are described. The mobile device includes a media placement application and a media display application. The media placement application receives a selection of a media item generated by the mobile device. The media placement application generates access conditions for the media item based on geolocation and position information of the mobile device associated with the selected media item. The media display application monitors the geolocation and position of the mobile device and determines whether the geolocation and position of the mobile device meet the access conditions of the selected media item. The media display application generates a notification that the selected media item is available to view in a display of the mobile device in response to determining that the geolocation and position of the mobile device meet the access conditions of the selected media item.

  • Publication number: 20170295250
Abstract: Systems and methods for causing display of a messaging achievement pictograph based on messaging activity are provided. In some example embodiments, a message activity communication is received by a messaging activity service from a client device, the messaging active communication causing and adjustment to a message activity score and the message activity score transgressing a first threshold activity score. Responsive to the message activity transgressing the first threshold activity score, an achievement pictograph is displayed on the client device. In some example embodiments, the pictograph may be ephemeral and removal of the pictograph may be triggered by a designated time or by the message activity score transgressing a second threshold activity score. In some example embodiments, a notification is generated that notifies a user of the display or removal from display of the achievement pictograph.

  • Patent number: 9785796
Abstract: A method executed by a computer includes receiving an image from a client device. A facial recognition technique is executed against an individual face within the image to obtain a recognized face. Privacy rules are applied to the image, where the privacy rules are associated with privacy settings for a user associated with the recognized face. A privacy protected version of the image is distributed, where the privacy protected version of the image has an altered image feature.

  • Publication number: 20170289234
Abstract: Systems and methods for communicating and displaying collections of image and video clip content are described. In one example embodiment, a device receives interface information about a group of content collections from a server computer system. When a user inputs a selection of a first content collection, the device displays images and video clips in a sequence defined by the content collection. Each piece of content (e.g. image or video clip) is displayed for less than a threshold display time. When the device finishes playing the first content collection, the device automatically begins playing a next content collection. Additional content collections generated from content submitted by other client devices can be received from the server computer system, with autoforward play of additional content collections continuing indefinitely.

  • Patent number: 9742713
Abstract: A server has a processor and a memory storing a message thread module with instructions executed by the processor to maintain a message thread between users of client devices. Message thread state changes are queued at the server. The message thread is revised based upon the message thread state changes to form shared message thread state. The shared message thread state is stored. The shared message thread state is supplied in response to a request for the message thread from a user.

  • Patent number: 9705831
Abstract: A server includes a message thread module with instructions executed by a processor to maintain a message thread between a first user and a second user. Each entry of the message thread is deleted after a display period unless an indication regarding the entry is received during the display period.

  • Publication number: 20170161382
Abstract: In some embodiments, a method of processing image data may include receiving environmental data and associated capture time data from a sensor of a mobile computing device, the capture time data reflecting capture time of the environmental data; processing the environmental data to generate metadata; time stamping the metadata using the capture time data; receiving video data and video time data at a processor; correlating the metadata to the video data using the capture time data and the video time data; receiving a search query; and/or identifying a frame within the video data by performing a search of the metadata using the search criterion.

  • Patent number: 9537811
Abstract: A server has a processor and a memory storing instructions executed by the processor to maintain an ephemeral gallery of ephemeral messages. An ephemeral message is posted to the ephemeral gallery. The ephemeral message has an associated message duration parameter and a gallery participation parameter. An ephemeral message is removed from the ephemeral gallery in response to the identification of an expired gallery participation parameter.

  • Patent number: 9532171
Abstract: A computer implemented method may include receiving geo-location data from a device of a user; comparing the geo-location data with a geo-location fence associated with an event; determining that the geo-location data corresponds to the geo-location fence associated with the event; responsive to the determining that the geo-location data corresponds to the geo-location fence associated with the event, supplying user-selectable event gallery information, associated with an event gallery of the event, to the device for addition to a destination list on the device; detecting selection of the user-selectable event gallery information in the destination list by the user of the device; and/or responsive to the detecting of the selection of the user-selectable event gallery information by the user of the device, adding the user as a follower of the event, with access to the event gallery.

  • Publication number: 20160328360
Abstract: Systems and methods for automated local story generation and curation are described. In one example embodiment, a server computer receives content from client devices, and processes the content to identify content characteristics. Stories are then generated based on the characteristics of the received content, and the stories are communicated to client devices. In certain embodiments, selection at a client device of an individual piece of content within a story may further be used by the system to provide the client device with a sub-story that includes pieces of content sharing content characteristics with the characteristics of the selected image or video.
