  • Patent number: 5819829
Abstract: The present invention is a hood or cover for golf bags, which features pneumatic, air-filled tubes and/or stiffeners, used as a frame or skeleton, to produce a finite, yet compliant physical shape. The inventive rain hood utilizes a hinged top to accommodate the full range of club sizes and yet make removal and replacement quick, easy and positive. The hood or cover also shields the remaining clubs while removing or replacing any one club. A universal attachment system accommodates almost all golf bags commonly used today. The attachment mechanism is a one-step cinch system which is infinitely adjustable from the smallest to the largest of currently-used golf bags. Once attached, the rain hood inflates quickly to its rigid state with either a built-in hand pump or an auxiliary pressurized hand-held inflator.

  • Patent number: 5629183
Abstract: Plant germplasm is transformed with foreign DNA by introducing the DNA into pollen grains by a technique such as electroporation, mating ova of the desired plant line with the transformed pollen, and selecting for the transformed germplasm. The germinating pollen, resultant seed, and the progeny can each be screened for expression of the foreign gene. The transformed pollen can be used as a vector for introducing the foreign DNA into plant lines of similar or dissimilar origin, including both monocots and dicots.

  • Patent number: 5466286
Abstract: A stable, air-dry, low-VOC waterborne metallic flake pigment dispersion containing an aqueous carrier, film-forming binder and metallic-flake pigment and having a solids content of about 10-30% by weight; wherein the metallic surface is passivated with a hydrophobically-modified aliphatic organic phosphate ester which is subsequently combined with an aqueous resin binder to stabilize the metallic flakes against long-term settling, gassing, floating, and reagglomeration of flake particles. The VOC of the resulting dispersion is about 2.5 to 3.5 lbs/gallon (minus water) and contains metallic flake pigments in a pigment-to-binder weight ratio of about 10/100 to 50/100. The dispersion can be used neat as a bright metallic waterborne base coating or combined with other colored dispersions and other compatible resinous materials.

  • Patent number: 5119225
Abstract: A multiple access communications system comprises a node spacecraft GEO and several user spacecraft LEO.sub.1 to LEO.sub.n. Each user spacecraft LEO.sub.1 to LEO.sub.n includes a transmit/receive terminal head 18.sub.1 to 18.sub.n, and the node spacecraft GEO includes n transmit/terminals 22 to 22.sub.n and a single beacon unit 24. The beacon beam may be operated to initiate acquisition phases which allow two-way communication to be established between the transmit/receive terminals 22.sub.1 to 22.sub.n on the node spacecraft and the transmit/receive terminals 18.sub.1 to 18.sub.n on the corresponding user terminals. The acquisition phases include a period during which the beacon scans an uncertainty cone associated with the node spacecraft. This scanning period is reduced for second and subseqeunt acquisitions by using the first and subsequently acquired communication links to provide a more accurate estimate of the angular attitude of the node spacecraft, thus reducing the extent of the uncertainty cone.
