  • Patent number: 6163038
Abstract: A white light-emitting diode and a method of fabricating the same diode are disclosed. The white light-emitting diode is fabricated by epitaxy, which can produce two peaks in the spectrum at the P-N junction by appropriately adjusting epitaxial parameters such as temperature, pressure, NH.sub.3 flux and the ratio of H.sub.2 to N.sub.2 or the concentration of dopant, such as Mg or Si. The diode can thus radiate white light by adjusting the wavelength and the intensity of the principal peak in the two peaks. Further, quantum well structure can be formed in the diode. By appropriately adjusting the epitaxial parameters, the spectrum of the quantum well structures may have more than one peak. Therefore, white light can be generated by combining the light with wavelengths at two or three different peaks. The white LED can radiate white light itself and need not involve combining many LEDs, so that the cost and the difficulty of fabricating the white LED lamp can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5683731
Abstract: A redistributing device for use with melt flow exhibiting boundary layer flow and centralized flow comprises a body including a melt flow inlet end and a plurality of melt flow outlets. A first flow diverter is included for distributing at least the boundary layer flow among the plurality of the melt flow outlets. A second flow diverter is included for distributing at least the centralized flow among the plurality of melt flow outlets.

  • Patent number: 4640428
Abstract: A plastic closure system for containers or bottles containing liquids under pressure, such as carbonated soft drinks. A liner incorporating a high gas barrier material such as "Eval" in a relatively thin layer is positioned over the end of the container neck. The liner is mechanically designed to have increased sealing forces applied thereto due to the internal pressure acting against the liner. In one embodiment, an overcap mechanically biases the liner over the edge of the container finish with internal gas pressure acting in the opposite direction, thus increasing the sealing force. The other embodiments incorporate a seal that has an annular, enlarged edge that is trapped between the finish and cap with pressure increasing the sealing force.

  • Patent number: 4036926
Abstract: A method of making a concave bottom on a blown thermoplastic container. A blowable pre-form is initially expanded against a composite mold surface defined by the end faces of a plurality of concentric tubes surrounding a central actuating rod. The rod and the tubes are initially telescopically positioned to define a composite concave surface, so that a first convex bottom is blown. Subsequently, the rod and tubes are actuated telescopically to progressively invert the convex bottom to a concave shape. The end faces of the tubes may be grooved to define reinforcing ribs in the concave bottom wall, if desired.

  • Patent number: 4017250
Abstract: An apparatus for blow molding a thermoplastic container having a concave bottom. A plurality of concentric, nested tubes surround a central rod, the tubes and rod have cooperating end faces which define the bottom of a blow mold. The tubes are interconnected through an actuating key fixed to the central rod and projecting through slots in the tubes. Actuation of the rod actuates the tubes in sequence as the key bottoms in the slots. A second, stop key is fixed relative to the rod and all of the tubes to position the rod and tube end faces in either a concave or convex configuration to defining two consecutive desired bottom shapes for the blow mold.
