The invention features methods for making ultrapure DMHR, including methods that minimize the production of unwanted side products (e.g., the production of homologous alkyl-chain impurities). In particular, the invention relates to a compound designated portimine, its congeners and the use of these compounds in anticancer therapy. In a second aspect the invention provides a pharmaceutical preparation comprising as active ingredient a congener of the first aspect of the invention. Preferably, the pharmaceutical preparation is indicated for use in the treatment of subjects with neoplasia. More preferably, the pharmaceutical preparation is indicated for use in the treatment of subjects with lymphoid malignancies. Abstract: A method for producing high-activity lignin and by-product furfural and an application, includes: using a dissolving pulp pre-hydrolysate and/or sulfite cooking liquor as the raw material, and catalyzing by employing an acid as a catalyst to obtain the lignin and furfural, wherein the acid is one or a combination of at least two of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, and acetic acid. According to the method, the yield of the obtained lignin and furfural is further increased by catalyzing the dissolving pulp pre-hydrolysate and/or the sulfite cooking liquor with the acid. Lignin especially has higher reactivity and low molecular weight, and the ratio of 5-methyl furfural in furfural to furfural is in a proper range, so that the strength of furan resin prepared from furfural is improved.

The method comprises the steps of mixing activated lactic acid bacteria with water and brown rice, loading the mixture into a one-way outgassing container, removing excess air or filling up the container, and sealing the container and performing fermentation. The invention is very simple and easy to operate, and has very low energy consumption.
