  • Patent number: 4026423
Abstract: An improved bulk extracting apparatus comprises a pivoted chain scraper conveyor which in the horizontal position acts to remove material from the transverse face of a dump. Various clearing means are provided to loosen material from the face of the dump which is then carried by gravity to feed the scraper conveyor. Alternatively, the scraper conveyor may be pivoted upwardly to clear the dump so that the apparatus may be easily moved either to a different dump or to a different position on the same dump. The scraper conveyor may also be partially lowered to act to remove material from a lateral side of the dump. Finally, stacking means may be additionally provided for adding material onto the dump such as for mixing purposes.

  • Patent number: 4023495
Abstract: An improved twist brake for the separable payload of a twist or spin-stabilized flare or smoke projectile is described. A pair of pivotable wings, secured at one end to a portion of a central shaft of the payload, is normally engaged by the inner surface of a guide shoe which prevents contact of the wing with the separable housing of the payload. Cooperable projections and slots on the guide shoe and the central support shaft prevent substantial axial and circumferential movement of the shoe, while permitting outward movement of the wings and the guide shoes when the payload separates from the housing. During such separation, the guide shoe is also separated from the wings so that the latter can pivot to their maximum extent to provide an optimum rotational braking action on the payload.

  • Patent number: 4020687
Abstract: An electrodynamic force measuring apparatus comprising a force coil arranged in a stationary magnetic field and movable out of a null position by means of the force which is to be measured. The force coil is supplied with a current through the agency of an amplifier as a function of its deviation out of the null position as detected by a feeler. This current, under the action of the stationary magnetic field, produces a restoring force which forces back the force coil into the null position. The force coil is connected in series with a compensation coil which varies the field intensity of the stationary magnetic field. The compensation coil is dimensioned to alter the magnetic field resulting from the stationary magnetic field and the magnetic field produced by the current in the force coil in such a manner that the restoring force acting upon the force coil remains proportional to the current.

  • Patent number: 4016067
Abstract: This invention is concerned with removing metal and sulfur contaminants from residual oil fractions by catalytic contact in a novel dual bed system. In this process the oil is first contacted with a catalyst comprising a Group VIB metal and an iron group metal oxide, such as a mixture of cobalt and molybdenum oxides, composited with an alumina support that contains delta or theta phase alumina, the catalyst having at least 60% of its pore volume in pores of 100A to 200A diameter, at least about 5% of its pore volume in pores having a diameter greater than 500A, and a surface area up to about 110m.sup.2 /g. The oil is then contacted with a second catalyst of the high surface-area, cobalt-molybdenum on alumina type. The second catalyst has a major fraction of its pores in the 30 to 100A diameter range.
