  • Patent number: 7964341
Abstract: The invention relates to the discovery of a human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) family, Type I HERV-K (HML-2) which appear to be active in vitro and in vivo, infectious, and which have the have the salient features and properties of foamy retroviruses. Based on its natural replication in humans, and that it protects the host from viral and tumor transformation, this non-pathogenic endogenous virus could be developed as a replication competent gene therapy vector. It also is expected to have much higher efficacy than other vectors as it crosses the bloodbrain barrier and infects almost all cell types in the host (proliferating or not). It may naturally lyse tumor cells or infected cells, and thus could even be used without genetic modification. Of course, this vector could be used in traditional ways with it ability to replicate genetically removed.

  • Publication number: 20110097418
Abstract: The present application provides compositions and methods useful for treating influenza. As described herein, the compositions and methods are based on the development of peptides and peptide combinations which exhibit immunogenic properties against influenza. In some embodiments, the peptide combinations induce a protective response against multiple strains of influenza, e.g., seasonal strains of influenza or even the new pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus of swine origin.

  • Publication number: 20100258471
Abstract: A food container system can include a tray with a bottom and a side wall, which together define a recess. The tray can have an array of ribs on the bottom panel that can extend to the side wall. The side wall can have female ribs that extend from the bottom panel to the top edge of the side wall. An inverted corner creating a concave shape on the exterior edge of the tray can be disposed at the intersection of the bottom wall and the side wall. The tray can include a rim that extends around the perimeter of the tray, which can accept a complimentary surface of a lid.

  • Publication number: 20090327554
Abstract: A system to synchronize processors includes one or more subsystems to receive an interrupt command, instruct a plurality of processors to enter an entry synchronization loop of an interrupt handler, determine by each of the plurality of processors whether all of the plurality of processors have entered their respective interrupt handler before exiting the entry synchronization loop, determine whether a timeout value has been reached, determine type of the interrupt command received and in response to the type of interrupt command received, and determine whether to exit the entry synchronization loop after the timeout value has been reached.

  • Publication number: 20090198870
Abstract: A method for writing bytes to flash memory is disclosed herein whereby the method comprising includes counting bytes from a data source, the bytes associated with a first value and a second value and comparing a number of bytes associated with the first value with a number of bytes associated with the second value. The method may further include inverting the bytes in the case where the number of bytes associated with the first value is greater than the number of bytes associated with the second value and transferring the bytes not associated with the second value to the flash memory.

  • Patent number: 7355304
Abstract: X-Ray equipment, that as well as having a controlled current converter, a capacitor bank, an inverter, a supply source, and a high voltage transformer, has inlet voltage evaluation equipment that activates relays of the connection points of an auxiliary supply transformer so that it is not necessary to manually carry out any change in the supply connections depending on the supply voltage. Furthermore it is possible to carry out the charging of the capacitors in a programmed manner, and the charging voltage of the capacitor bank is fixed and independent of the supply voltage, the equipment being able to operate automatically at a voltage between 90 and 264 volts.

  • Patent number: 6871715
Abstract: A system is described for the controlled propulsion of a transporting device including at least two drive wheels propelled by electromotive units, in which system at least two drive wheels are each propelled by independent electric motors; each electric motor receives electric power through an independent power amplifier which amplifies electric signals produced by sensor devices; the sensor devices detect a mechanical force applied on a push and pull element, and convert the mechanical force into electric signals which indicate the degree and the direction of the mechanical force applied on the push and pull element, and the amplifier amplifies the signal in accordance with a factor which is a function of the weight that the trolley has to move and it feeds the electric motor so it can power the drive motor in accordance with a torque corresponding to the movement ordered through the sensor devices.

  • Patent number: 6555120
Abstract: The 2-(2,14-Dimethyl-pentadecanoylamin)-pentanedioic acid (I) and compounds of the formula (II), wherein the substituents have the meaning disclosed in the specification, are used as oviposition deterring pheromones against the following fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) of economical importance: Anastrepha fraterculus (south America fruit fly), A. grandis, A. ludens (Mexican fruit fly), A. obliqua (mango fly), A. serpentina (sapodilla fly), A. striata (guayabi fly) and A. suspensa (Caribbean fruit fly). The above-mentioned substances, if conveniently formulated, can be used to reduce the damage caused by these insects to fruits which are cultivated in commercial and semi-commercial orchards, in garden orchards and in isolated trees in residential gardens.

  • Patent number: 6149710
Abstract: Briquettes or tablets to be added to an aluminium melt, are made up by the combination of an agglutinated powder which include, at least, an aluminium powder, a powder of one or more metals or alloys including those to be added, and a wax-type organic compound, all in adequate proportions. This combination allows the increase of the dissolution velocity of the added metals, the recoveries of the added metal, a better stirring of the melting aluminium, and the reduction of impurities and of accumulated metal in the bottom of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 5553077
Abstract: A method and device for automatic synchronization of data bursts that is applicable to cordless communications systems with time division multiple access, TDMA, for synchronizing the timebases of cordless terminals and base stations. This device, which periodically receives for a short interval of time, a burst reception signal (A) to be synchronized, incorporates a register (1) which stores the value of a counter (3) when the burst reception signal (A) is high and subtracts from it, in an adder circuit (2), a reference value (REF) in order to adjust the references between the two timebases. To the output value (DELTA), a maximum value (MAX) is added or subtracted in a second adder circuit (4), depending on what timebase, the internal or the reference one, is faster.
