  • Publication number: 20090170602
Abstract: A system and method for controlling game play at a pay-for-play entertainment system. The entertainment system may include an entertainment unit, a remote activation unit, and at least one game play light source. The remote activation unit may be configured to have the game play light source be in an on condition during purchased game play and in an off condition when purchased game play time or credits have expired. The present invention may also include a game play detection apparatus that may detect game play activity. The detection of game play may be communicated to the remote activation unit to determine if the detected game play activity is associated with purchased game play. If the detected game play activity is unauthorized, i.e. the game play has not been purchased, the remote activation unit may communicate an “on” signal to an auxiliary light and/or speaker.

  • Publication number: 20090149262
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention generally relate to entertainment systems, and more particularly to a system and method for, inputting and compiling information relating to game play at one or more game units. Game play information may be inputted into a communicator through the use of a user interface. According to some embodiments, a game play template may be used to input the game play information in the communicator. A variety of different methodologies, depending on the type of communicator utilized, may be used to communicate the inputted game play information to a host game server, including, but not limited to, MMS, SMS texting, WAP, or any other such portable text messaging or worldwide web accessible functionality. Opponents may have an opportunity to edit and validate the inputted game play information. Recorded game play information or league reports may be communicated to the communicator.

  • Publication number: 20090131186
Abstract: A method for play of a parlor entertainment unit including a remote activation assembly and an activation-sensing unit. The activation-sensing unit, which may be battery operated and housed in the entertainment unit, may be in an energy-conserving sleep mode until the activation-sensing unit receives a wake-up signal. In one embodiment, the wake-up signal may be generated by the engagement of an activation mechanism, such as a coin slide. After being awoken, the activation-sensing unit may transmit an inquiry to the remote activation assembly as to whether the associated entertainment unit has been selected for play and/or whether there is a sufficient number of credits available for play. If that entertainment unit has not been selected for play, the activation-sensing unit may return to a sleep mode. However, if sufficient play credits are available for the entertainment unit, play may commence.

  • Publication number: 20080213898
Abstract: Compositions and methods are described for non-viral nucleic acid delivery. A targeting peptide capable of mediating targeting to a cell or subcellular compartment is derivatized with a photoaffinity label. Following an ionic interaction with a polynucleotide, such as DNA, and photolysis, the bioactive peptide becomes covalently attached to the DNA. Upon contact with a cell, the peptide facilities uptake of the peptide-polynucleotide conjugate into the cell or subcellular compartment. Methods for using this system for delivery of structural genes, including reporter genes, and detection of expression using bioluminescence are also described.

  • Patent number: 7101676
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of identifying a molecule from a library of molecules that inhibits binding of human immunodeficiency virus nucleocapsid 7 polypeptide (NCp7) to an oligonucleotide which comprises admixing an NCp7 polypeptide with at one labeled HIV-1 psi-site oligonucleotide and an amount of the molecule to be tested under binding conditions; and determining the amount of oligonucleotide bound to the NCp7 polypeptide, wherein a decrease in the amount of oligonucleotide bound in the presence of the molecule compared with the amount of oligonucleotide bound in the absence of the molecule indicates that the molecule inhibits binding of NCp7 polypeptide to the oligonucleotide.

  • Patent number: 6989263
Abstract: The present invention provides several classes of compounds which can be used to inactivate retroviruses, such as HIV-1, by attacking the CCHC zinc fingers of the viral nucleocapsid protein and ejecting the zinc therefrom. In addition, kits for identifying compounds that can react with CCHC zinc fingers of the nucleocapsid proteins of a large number of different retroviruses have also been developed. The kits of the present invention describe a set of specific tests and reagents that can be used to screen and identify compounds based on their ability to react with and disrupt retroviral zinc fingers in the viral NC proteins and, in turn, inactivate the retrovirus of interest.

  • Publication number: 20050247311
Abstract: The Reduced Oxygen Breathing Device (ROBD2) is an apparatus that dilutes the oxygen present in air to concentrations below 21% by mixing the air with nitrogen. The purpose of this dilution is to simulate the reduced oxygen concentration available as one ascends in altitude. The ROBD2 is unique and different from previous devices that reduce the concentration of oxygen in room air via dilution with nitrogen gas in that it uses sophisticated gas regulating devices known as mass flow controllers. The ROBD also employs a gas extraction device as an independent component of the system that can separate nitrogen gas from air for use in the device.

  • Patent number: 6948653
Abstract: A portable detection system (10) for hazardous materials including explosives and infectious or hazardous biological agents readily adapted to conventional mail collection boxes (12), rural mailboxes (100) and the like. The system includes a fan (14) and a sensor (16). The fan (14) provides sufficient airflow to circulate the air within a mailbox such that the internal air after coming in contact with the contents is directed the sensor for analysis. The air quality can be determined visually (137), audibly (138), or electronically (139). Consequently once such detection is made and the air is verified as being safe, the contents can be removed safely. If it is determined that the air contains some type of hazardous material, further steps can be taken to specifically locate the source of such hazardous material. An alternative embodiment includes a filter (15) to improve fan efficiency.
