  • Publication number: 20060068378
Abstract: The invention provides methods of detecting a nucleic acid. The methods comprise contacting the nucleic acid with one or more types of particles having oligonucleotides attached thereto. In one embodiment of the method, the oligonucleotides are attached to nanoparticles and have sequences complementary to portions of the sequence of the nucleic acid. A detectable change (preferably a color change) is brought about as a result of the hybridization of the oligonucleotides on the nanoparticles to the nucleic acid. The invention also provides compositions and kits comprising particles. The invention further provides methods of synthesizing unique nanoparticle-oligonucleotide conjugates, the conjugates produced by the methods, and methods of using the conjugates. In addition, the invention provides nanomaterials and nanostructures comprising nanoparticles and methods of nanofabrication utilizing nanoparticles. Finally, the invention provides a method of separating a selected nucleic acid from other nucleic acids.

  • Publication number: 20040262460
Abstract: A hanger for an exhaust suspension has a mass dampener structure having a dampener mass with a central passage, an elastomer spring in the form of a sleeve received in the passage of the dampener mass and spring has an arrangement for connecting the mass dampener structure to a connecting pin. The mass dampener structure is connected to a first ring portion by an arrangement including a pair of elastomer arms. The elastomer spring is tuned to have a stiffness greater than the remaining portion of the hanger.

  • Patent number: 6728767
Abstract: A network operator identifies an address of a network element used by a particular client to obtain IP addresses. The client sends a test message to a test URL which includes a unique host name unknown to the client or network element. The network element accesses an authoritative server, which records the IP address of the requesting network element and resolves the host name in the test URL to a test IP address. The server records an IP address of the client when the client subsequently sends a message directly to the test IP address. In an alternative embodiment, another network node generates a redirect command, which incorporates the client IP address in a test URL, to allow for single-message determination of the network element and client IP addresses by the authoritative server. In both embodiments, user unique test URLs may be generated to allow the network operator to assist many users.

  • Patent number: 6127968
Abstract: A system for single frequency on-the-fly (OTF) real-time kinematic (RTK) centimeter level position determination using the satellite positioning system (SATPS) is disclosed. The system includes a storage buffer used for storing data. The stored data and the current data are used by an ambiguity search algorithm for the improved integer ambiguity resolution.

  • Patent number: 5775165
Abstract: A transmission shift control has a detent mechanism to provide a shift effort so that the operator has a sense of feel during shifting between ranges. During a manual shift between reverse and park, the shift effort or "detent feel" is normally higher than the effort occurring during manual shifts between other ranges. The detent mechanism providing the "detent feel" is comprised of a spring-biased roller in a notched detent plate comprised of rises and valleys. The spring urges the roller against the notched surface on the plate. The ramps or rises provide increased shift effort during movement of the plate from range to another. In each range, the spring-biased roller is disposed in the appropriate valley. A channel is formed in the plate to provide a path for the roller, such that the park to reverse shift effort is less than the reverse to park effort.

  • Patent number: 5769064
Abstract: An elastic band powered ball projecting machine is capable of hurling baseball, softball, tennis ball and simulated ball for batting practice. The machine includes a tube assembly within which a carrier and a piston slide rearwardly between a neutral position and a loaded position and forwardly between the loaded position and a release position. An elastic band is disposed in the piston and the two ends of the elastic band are secured on a frame which is mounted on a supporting assembly. The piston is linked with a roller of a clutch and ratchet mechanism by a wire. The elastic band is stretched under the tension of its own elasticity between the neutral position and the loaded position by pedaling a clutch and ratchet mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5749606
Abstract: A connector assembly includes a female member having a bore extending therethrough and a male member for insertion into the bore of the female member. The male member has a shoulder portion thereon. A resilient member is disposed on the female member and extends partially into the bore. The resilient member engages the shoulder portion of the male member to lock the male member in position within the female member. In addition, a retainer is provided for coaxial connection to the female member. The retainer has an internal retainer groove axially aligned for receiving the resilient member therein when the retainer is coaxially connected to the female member. Thus, the resilient member is captured in the retainer groove between the retainer and the female member when the retainer is coaxially connected to the female member.

  • Patent number: 5673596
Abstract: Flexible cables require an adjustable end fitting to permit the exact length to be attained at installation in the system in which is to be controlled. The adjusting structure includes a body adjusting portion on the one end of the cable and an adjustable body core which will be attached to one of the working members. Each of the body core and the body adjusting portion have a toothed portion formed thereon which are alignable when the body adjusting portion is inserted within the adjustable body core. A lock member secures these two portions together with a toothed portion which engages the aligned toothed portions on the body members. In order to prevent premature locking of the two elements together, the retaining member is secured out of engagement with the toothed elements and also after engagement of the toothed elements the lock member is secured in the lock position. The positioning of the lock member is controlled by a single retainer clip which is slidably disposed on the adjustable body core.
