  • Publication number: 20170021275
Abstract: A method is provided, including: receiving inertial data from an input device, the inertial data being generated from one or more inertial sensors of the input device; receiving captured image data from an image capture device configured to capture images of an interactive environment in which the input device is disposed, the input device having a light emitting diode (LED) array that generates infrared light; processing the inertial data and the captured image data to determine a movement of the input device in the interactive environment; establishing a gearing that adjusts an amount by which the movement of the input device is mapped to movement of an image that is rendered to a display; changing the gearing to different settings during the movement of the image as the movement of the image is rendered to the display.

  • Patent number: 9551873
Abstract: A head mounted display (HMD) system is provided. The system includes a housing and optics disposed in the housing. The system further includes a processor disposed in the housing and shutter control logic interfaced with the processor. The shutter control logic is configured to operate to alternate between opening a left eye-side of the optics and closing a right eye-side of the optics to opening the right eye-side of the optics and closing the left eye-side of the optics. A holder portion is integrated with the housing. The holder portion is configured to receive a smart device having a display screen. The display screen is oriented toward the optics of the housing in a direction that is toward a face of a user when the HMD system is worn by the user. The shutter control in operation is configured to enable a three-dimensional view of image date rendered on the display screen of the smart device when viewed through the optics of the housing.

  • Patent number: 9538049
Abstract: A method for use with content includes analyzing a sequence of frames of the content, determining whether an area exists in a scene depicted by the sequence of frames where additional content such as advertising can be inserted without obstructing activity in the scene, for any such area, determining an amount of time that the area is available when the sequence of frames is being played, and for any such area, determining a size of the area. A storage medium storing a computer program for causing a processor based system to execute these steps and an apparatus for use with content are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9526995
Abstract: A system and method for recording and playback of game data is provided. A recording engine may be configured to record and playback game data, including broadcast data received over a network. The recording engine may be included in a game console or at other network-enabled devices, such as a desktop computer. The recording engine may be configured to record the game data in a buffer memory, an archival memory, and to assist in the display of the game (e.g., interacting with a graphics processing unit). Game data stored in the buffer memory may later be transferred to the archival memory. Playback commands may be operable when a portion of the game broadcast has been recorded. When a playback command is received, the game recording engine may access a portion of the game data from buffer or archival memory and displays a selected portion and may be subject to certain seek functions (e.g., fast forward and rewind). Spectators may be able to independently archive and playback game data using local memory.

  • Patent number: 9497491
Abstract: A non-transitory computer readable storage medium stores one or more computer programs adapted to cause a processor based system to execute steps that include analyzing an image, identifying one or more faces in the image using a face recognition technique, designating at least one of the identified faces collectively as a first area of interest, and determining whether an insertion area exists in the image where additional content can be inserted without obstructing the first area of interest. Another computer program is adapted to cause a processor based system to execute steps that include determining whether the insertion area can be divided into two or more regions based on color. Methods and processor based apparatuses that perform one or more of these steps are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160317926
Abstract: One embodiment provides a method for use in a game that includes the steps of receiving position information for a controller that is being manipulated by a user, analyzing the position information to determine whether a predetermined movement of the controller associated with a command has been performed, and executing the command if the predetermined movement of the controller associated with the command has been performed.

  • Patent number: 9474968
Abstract: Methods and systems for interactive interfacing with a computer gaming system are provided. The computer gaming system includes a video capture device for capturing image data. One method includes displaying an input device to the video capture device, where the input device has a plurality of lights that are modulated so as to convey positioning of the input device and communication data that is to be interpreted by the computer gaming system based on analysis of the captured image data and a state of the plurality of lights. This method also includes defining movement of an object of a computer game that is to be executed by the computer gaming system, such that the movement of the object may be mapped to movements in position of the input device as detected in the captured image data. The method then establishes a gearing between the movement of the object of the computer game verses the movements in position of the input device.

  • Publication number: 20160250549
Abstract: Increasing a number of advertising impressions in a system configured to facilitate user interaction with an interactive environment containing one or more advertising targets is described. A scene of a portion of the simulated environment is displayed from a camera point of view (camera POV) on a video display. The scene may change as the camera POV changes in response to movement of the camera POV along a camera path during the user's interaction with the simulated environment. Modifying the camera path or a camera field of view can place more of an advertising target within the scene displayed on the video display to increase a likelihood of generating an advertising impression compared to a likelihood of generating an advertising impression without the modification.
