  • Publication number: 20170369151
Abstract: A method of configuring a wing tip device (7) on an aircraft (1), including: undertaking ground-based operations at an airport with the wing tip device (7) in a ground configuration, in which the span of the aircraft is within an airport compatibility limit, moving the wing tip device (7) to a take-off configuration in which the wing tip device (7) is moved away from the ground configuration such that the span of the aircraft is increased and such that the wing tip device (7) has a first lift coefficient; taking-off with the wing tip device (7) in the take-off configuration; moving the wing tip device from the take-off configuration to a flight configuration, in which the wing tip device has a second lift coefficient, the second lift coefficient being lower than the first lift coefficient. The lift coefficient may be changed by adjusting the sweep of the wing tip device (7).

  • Patent number: 9852340
Abstract: A method of identifying, with a camera, an object in an image of a scene, by determining the distinctiveness of each of a number of attributes of an object of interest, independent of the camera viewpoint, determining the detectability of each of the attributes based on the relative orientation of a candidate object in the image of the scene, determining a camera setting for viewing the candidate object based on the distinctiveness of an attribute, so as to increase the detectability of the attribute, and capturing an image of the candidate object with the camera setting to determine the confidence that the candidate object is the object of interest.

  • Publication number: 20170334541
Abstract: An aerofoil shaped body includes a plurality of longitudinal spars, an upper aerofoil cover, and a lower aerofoil cover. The spars and the covers are made of composite laminate material. One of the spars is integrally formed with one of the covers to form a spar-cover such that the composite laminate material of the spar extends continuously into the cover through a fold region created between the spar and the cover. The fold region has a fold axis extending substantially in the longitudinal direction, and the fold axis projected onto two orthogonal planes has curvature in both those planes.

  • Publication number: 20170321249
Abstract: An apparatus for imaging one or more selected fluorescence indications from a microfluidic device. The apparatus includes an imaging path coupled to least one chamber in at least one microfluidic device. The imaging path provides for transmission of one or more fluorescent emission signals derived from one or more samples in the at least one chamber of the at least one microfluidic device. The chamber has a chamber size, the chamber size being characterized by an actual spatial dimension normal to the imaging path. The apparatus also includes an optical lens system coupled to the imaging path. The optical lens system is adapted to transmit the one or more fluorescent signals associated with the chamber.

  • Patent number: 9799124
Abstract: A method of determining a property of an image (176) captured by a camera (127). Vanishing points (320, 330, 340) are in the image (176). Each pixel of the image (176) is associated with one or more of the vanishing points (320, 330, 340) based on an orientation of the image gradient at the pixel. The image is partitioned into a set of regions associated with a pair of the determined vanishing points based on the vanishing point associations for pixels in the image (176). Boundaries of the regions are aligned with the associated vanishing points. For at least one of the plurality of regions, a confidence value is determined for the property of the image based on pixels in the region. The property of the image is determined for one or more pixels within the image (176) based on the confidence value.

  • Patent number: 9794140
Abstract: Data traffic, such as wireless data traffic egressing to the Internet, is aggregated at one or more regional aggregation hubs, and a portion(s) of data traffic associated with a subscriber(s) of interest is captured at the regional aggregation hub(s). Data traffic associated with subscribers can be aggregated at an access concentrator(s) and respective public Internet Protocol (IP) addresses can be given to respective subscribers. The data traffic can be aggregated at the regional aggregation hub(s) and data traffic associated with a subscriber(s) of interest can be identified based at least in part on the public IP address(es) of the respective subscriber(s) of interest. The data traffic associated with a subscriber(s) of interest can be captured and provided to a consumer (e.g., law enforcement, service provider) who desires such data.

  • Patent number: 9696494
Abstract: An optical interconnect can be located between a first optical guide with a first optical guide end and a second optical guide with a second optical guide end. The first optical guide and the second optical guide can each have an operational wavelength, which can be substantially the same such that light of such a wavelength can propagate through the optical interconnect. The optical interconnect can include a pressure-sensitive material with a first region with a first refractive index at the operating wavelength. The pressure-sensitive material can include a second region with a second refractive index at the operating wavelength located between the first optical guide end and the second optical guide end. The second region can be induced by a mechanical pressure applied between the first guide end and the second guide end.

  • Publication number: 20160340029
Abstract: A winglet 3 has an inner end 5 and an outer 7. The winglet 3 has a varying radius of curvature (R) which: (i) decreases along the winglet over a first distance d1; (ii) remains constant over a second distance d2; and (iii) increases along the winglet 3 over a third distance d3. The sum of the first and third distances (d1+d3) is greater than the second distance (d2). The radius of curvature may vary according to the equation R=k1/dn. The parameter n may be equal to 1, such that the curvature follows an Euler spiral.
