  • Patent number: 6074547
Abstract: A process for measuring the oxygen potential in a silicon melt uses an electrochemical potential probe which dips into the melt. The probe voltage is measured using this potential probe which is made of an SiO.sub.2 glass tube in which graphite is in direct contact with SiO.sub.2 glass. The graphite has a wire making contact with it at the graphite upper end. The probe is dipped into the silicon melt only to an extent such that the graphite/wire contact point contained in the SiO.sub.2 glass tube lies above the silicon melt.

  • Patent number: 5853139
Abstract: A winding machine for producing rolls (3) having a pressure roller system which includes a horizontal, vertically movable cross-head (8) to which a series of freely rotatable and individually movable roll segments (9) are secured side-by-side and with bolts parallel to the cross-head (8). In addition, there are piston/cylinder units (10) for adjusting the pressure exerted by the roll segments (9) on the rolls (3). Into the bearing of each roll segment (9) on the cross-head (8) is integrated a component which either increases the bearing pressure as the distance between the roll segment (9) and the cross-head decreases or decreases the bearing pressure as the distance between the roll segment (9) and the cross-head increases. Thus the most uniform possible pressure on all rolls (3) is ensured and negative effects owing to excessive differences in diameter between the rolls (3) are prevented.

  • Patent number: 5848826
Abstract: A braking system for controlling the braking of a trailer as a function of the load condition of the trailer, determined by variables measured only on the tractor. In the tractor, a proportional valve is provided which is controlled by an electronic brake control system and, as a function of the determined load condition, provides the brake pressure for the trailer. The connection of a driver brake valve to a trailer brake valve with a select-high function is controlled by at least one fail-safe valve, which is controlled by the electronic brake control system. In normal operation of the electronic brake system, the output of the proportional valve is the output of the trailer brake valve and in faulty operation of the electronic brake system, the output of the driver control valve is the output of the trailer brake valve.

  • Patent number: 5841235
Abstract: In a source for the generation of large-area pulsed ion or electron beams from an anode discharge electrode which has openings receiving discharge electrodes forming a vacuum arc plasma source, the discharge is safely triggered by a load which determines the total current and which consists of a parallel circuit including an ohmic resistor and a capacitor wherein the load output is adapted to the internal resistance of the pulse voltage generator. With a dimensioning of the electrical components taking into consideration given limits, a homogeneous beam of charged particles is obtained wherein the particle composition can be all the same or a homogeneous mixture of different particles depending on the choice of electrode materials.

  • Patent number: 5723337
Abstract: A method for measuring and controlling the oxygen concentration in silicon melts which are contained in a silica glass crucible or which can be touched by a silica glass surface can especially be used for achieving a defined, uniform axial and radial oxygen concentration in a growing silicon crystal. The measurement of the oxygen concentration is realized by an electrochemical solid ionic sensor dipped into the melt; the voltage is measured between the sensor and the growing silicon crystal. The oxygen concentration in the melt is controlled by applying a voltage between crystal and silica glass crucible. The apparatus for putting the method into practice includes an electrochemical solid ionic sensor formed of a silica glass tube which encloses a metal/metal oxide mixture, contacted by a metal wire.
