  • Patent number: 10071510
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing storage-stable polyurethane prepregs and to moldings (composite components) produced therefrom. The prepregs and, respectively, components are produced by mixing (meth)acrylate monomers, (meth)acrylate polymers, hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate monomers and/or hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate polymers with uretdione materials. Photoinitiators can also optionally be added. This mixture or solution is applied by known processes to fiber material, e.g. carbon fibers, glass fibers or polymer fibers, and is polymerized with the aid of radiation or of plasma methods. Polymerization, e.g. at room temperature or at up to 80° C., gives thermoplastics or thermoplastic prepregs, and these can subsequently also be subjected to forming processes. The hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate constituents can then be crosslinked with the uretdiones already present within the system, by use of elevated temperature.

  • Publication number: 20170275430
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing storage-stable polyurethane prepregs and mouldings produced therefrom (composite components). For production of the prepregs or components, for example, (meth)acrylate monomers, (meth)acrylate polymers, hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate monomers and/or hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate polymers are mixed with non-(meth)acrylic polyols and with uretdione materials. This mixture or solution is applied to fibre material, for example carbon fibres, glass fibres or polymer fibres, by known methods and polymerized thermally, via a redox initiation or with the aid of radiation or plasma applications. Polymerization, for example at room temperature or at up to 80° C., gives rise to thermoplastics or thermoplastic prepregs which can subsequently be subjected to a forming operation.

  • Publication number: 20170226300
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing semi-finished composites and composite components. For production of the semi-finished products or components, (meth)acrylate monomers, (meth)acrylate polymers, polyfunctionalized (meth)acrylates, hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate monomers and/or hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate polymers are mixed with di- or polyisocyanates or with uretdione materials. This liquid mixture is applied by known processes to fibre material, for example carbon fibres, glass fibres or polymer fibres, and polymerized with the aid of a first temperature increase or of a redox accelerator or by means of photoinitiation. Polymerization, for example at room temperature or at up to 120° C., gives rise to thermoplastics which can still be subjected to a forming operation. The hydroxy-functionalized (meth)acrylate constituents can subsequently be crosslinked in a press with isocyanates or uretdiones already present in the system at a second temperature at least 20° C.

  • Publication number: 20170218149
Abstract: The invention concerns specifically emulsion polymers which are intraparticulately crosslinked via a hetero-Diels-Alder (HDA) mechanism. The crosslinked polymers can then be wholly or partly decrosslinked by thermal processing, for example in the form of a composite matrix, via a retro-Diels-Alder or retro-hetero-Diels-Alder reaction and interparticulately recrosslinked on cooling. This makes it possible to prepare long shelf life prepregs for composites. But it is also possible to thus realize other materials that have thermoset properties at use temperature but thermoplastic processing properties at a higher temperature.

  • Patent number: 9550851
Abstract: A method for the reversible crosslinking of, for example, adhesives or coating materials, and a composition stable on storage at room temperature for implementing the crosslinking reaction. The reversible crosslinking method allows very rapid crosslinking even at a low first temperature, and undoing of the crosslinks at higher temperatures, thereby recovering thermoplastic processability and, for example, allowing the originally bonded substrates to be parted from one another again easily. A particular aspect is that a plurality of cycles of crosslinking and undoing of the crosslinks are possible with the present system. A feature of the system used for the reversible crosslinking is that it contains two components, A and B, where component A is a compound having at least two protected dithioester functionalities, preferably cyanodithioester functionalities, and component B is a compound having at least two diene functionalities.

  • Publication number: 20160137774
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel, rapid initiating mechanism for anionic, ring-opening polymerization of lactones by means of latent initiators based on N-heterocyclic carbene compounds which can be thermally activated, such as, in particular, N-heterocyclic carbene-CO2, carbene-CS2 and carbene-metal compounds (NHC). Molecular weights of 2000 to more than 20 000 g/mol and narrow polydispersities can thus be realized using the novel initiating mechanism for the polymerization of ?-caprolactone. The polymerizations may be carried out either without solvent or in solution. Compounds of this type are thermally latent and initiate a polymerization to give polylactones on heating, sometimes in high yields up to a level of quantitative conversion, while a reaction does not occur at room temperature. The polydispersity and molecular weight of the polylactone can be adjusted by selection of the initiator and the reaction conditions.
