  • Patent number: 7707058
Abstract: A method for predicting parts for onsite repair which takes into account a repair history and the costs associated with mis-predictions. Parts for onsite repair of a product are predicted by determining an expected waste for one or more parts of the product. The parts having a lowest expected waste are selected and sent to the onsite repair. The expected waste indicates parts that are responsible for high support costs and highlights the mistakes being made and scores the mistakes by actual cost.

  • Patent number: 7628910
Abstract: A control device for use with irrigation systems includes one or more of a solenoid-actuated valve, a pressure regulating valve, and a self-cleaning filter assembly. The filter assembly filters water flowing to the pressure regulating valve and the solenoid actuated valve. The filter assembly reciprocates a wiper over a filter screen to clean the screen. The wiper is on a shaft with one or more grooves that provides a pathway for unfiltered water to remove particulate matter from the filter assembly. The solenoid actuated valve controls the filter assembly and the pressure regulating valve. When the solenoid actuated valve is off, the pressure regulating valve is closed. When the solenoid actuated valve is on, water flows through the pressure regulating valve and also to a control chamber of the filter assembly.

  • Patent number: 7565424
Abstract: A data processing system, method, and computer program product are disclosed for reporting a loss of a service application to a particular system administrator. The data processing system includes a logically partitioned computer system and a hardware management console. The hardware management console is a stand-alone system separate from the computer system. A service application is executable by the hardware management console for managing service of and placing service calls for the logically partitioned computer system. The logically partitioned computer system includes a service partition. A service processor included in the logically partitioned computer system monitors a presence of the service application, and reports the absence of the service application to the service partition. In response to an absence of the service application, the service partition reports the absence of the service application to a system administrator of the service partition.

  • Patent number: 7558766
Abstract: Provided are systems, methods and techniques for classifying items. According to one preferred embodiment, initial feature sets are obtained for a current batch of items, and classification predictions are generated for the items based on their initial feature sets, using a set of existing classifiers. The classification predictions are then appended as additional features to the respective feature sets of the items, thereby obtaining enhanced feature sets, and a first classifier is trained, using a plurality of the items as training samples and using the enhanced feature sets of the training samples. Finally, items in the current batch are classified using their enhanced feature sets and the first classifier. According to this embodiment, the existing classifiers were trained on a plurality of different sets of items that are representative of corresponding different times.

  • Patent number: 7544068
Abstract: A connector assembly includes a connector mounted within a backshell and a biasing member that forces the connector into contact with a surface of the backshell to improve ground shield junction performance. The biasing member extends into an internal space defined by the backshell and exerts a biasing force to reduce resistance between the connector and the backshell. The reduced resistance provided by the biasing member improves ground shield junction performance against electromechanical interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).

  • Patent number: 7502767
Abstract: A count of cases in a target set classified in a class is computed using a classifier. In the method, one or more measures of behavior of the classifier are determined for a plurality of classification thresholds and at least one classification threshold for the classifier is selected based on the one or more measures of behavior. In addition, a score for a plurality of the cases in the target set using the classifier is computed and the count of the cases is computed based on the scores, the selected at least one classification threshold, and the one or more measures of behavior.

  • Patent number: 7443413
Abstract: A method for adjusting a laser diode drive current pulse, comprises providing a power correction table comprising drive current pulse correction factors corresponding to counter positions. The method also comprises providing a jump table comprising counter position adjustments corresponding to correction factors. A count value of a position within the counter positions is maintained. Maintaining the count value comprises indexing the count value to the jump table and incrementing the count value for each of a series of pixel clocks. A correction factor is determined, wherein determining the current correction factor comprises indexing the count value to the power correction table.

  • Patent number: 7415445
Abstract: A two-class analysis system for summarizing features and determining features appropriate to use in training a classifier related to a data mining operation. Exemplary embodiments describe how to select features which will be suited to training a classifier used for a two-class text classification problem. Bi-Normal Separation methods are defined wherein there is a measure of inverse cumulative distribution function of a standard probability distribution and representative of a difference between occurrences of the feature between said each class. In addition to training a classifier, the system provides a means of summarizing differences between classes.

  • Patent number: 7397990
Abstract: A cable (302) has (8) fibers (304) are encapsulated by a UV curable layer (306) having a diameter of approximately (1010) microns, and (16) outer fibers (316) arranged in a circular formation around the inner fibers (304). The optical fibers (304) are held in position by means of the UV curable layer (306) so that the UV curable material of the layer (306) does not penetrate into the gaps between the optical fibers (304) and the outermost optical fibers (304) are restrained by the layer from moving axially. It is found that such an arrangement provides surprisingly favorable bending properties, making the cable particularly suitable for installation in a tube by means of blowing.

  • Publication number: 20080162985
Abstract: A method in a data processing system for monitoring for errors on a network. Responsive to detecting a change in a state of the network, determine whether the change in state is a loss of a communications link to a remote data processing system. If the change in state is a loss of the communications link, determine whether the communications link was established for at least a first period of time to be considered an acceptable connection to the remote data processing system; and create a new serviceable event, if a second period of time passes without reestablishing the communications link to the selected data processing system. Repeat occurrences of identical outages are tracked and multiple detected instances of an outage for different partitions are counted as a single failure in the examples.

  • Publication number: 20080124686
Abstract: Provided are, inter alia, systems, methods and techniques for facilitating identification of a skilled resource's skill set. Initially, a master set of previously identified skills is filtered in order to identify a subset of skills that appear to be potentially applicable to a skilled resource. Then, based on the identified subset, a query regarding skills actually possessed by the skilled resource is created and presented. A response that designates skills possessed by the skilled resource is received and incorporated into a user skills database. The above-referenced filtering is performed by utilizing an automated tool to analyze content from a set of computer files.

  • Publication number: 20080101689
Abstract: Provided are systems, methods and techniques for machine-learning classification. In one representative embodiment, an item having values for a plurality of different features in a feature set is obtained, together with scores for the different features. The score for a given feature is a measure of prediction ability for that feature and was calculated as a function of a plurality of different occurrence metrics of the feature. The values for the features are scaled according to the scores for the features, and the item is classified by inputting the adjusted feature set values for the item into a previously trained classifier.

  • Patent number: 7349917
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the classification of items into categories, and more generally, to the automatic selection of different classifiers at different places within a hierarchy of categories. An exemplary hierarchical categorization method uses a hybrid of different classification technologies, with training-data based machine-learning classifiers preferably being used in those portions of the hierarchy above a dynamically defined boundary in which adequate training data is available, and with a-priori classification rules not requiring any such training-data being used below that boundary, thereby providing a novel hybrid categorization technology that is capable of leveraging the strengths of its components.
