  • Patent number: 7261935
Abstract: The present invention provides a multi-layer polymer composition having a polar outer layer and a non-polar second outer layer. The polar outer layer is preferably PVC and the non-polar outer layer, polypropylene. The adhesive tie layer is a unique blend of a copolyester elastomer, a non-polar polymer, and a copolymer that contains functional groups capable of reaction with the functional end groups of the copolyester elastomer and that is totally or partially miscible with the non-polar polymer in the second outer layer. The multi-layer polymer can be advantageously coextruded. The non-polar outer layer can comprise the bulk of a fabricated part, with only a thin layer of polar polymer, providing desired attributes of the polar polymer at a lower cost.

  • Publication number: 20070132398
Abstract: An illumination control circuit allows a user to set a desired brightness level and maintains the desired brightness level over temperature and life of a light source. The illumination control circuit uses a dual feedback loop with both optical and thermal feedbacks. The optical feedback loop controls power to the light source during normal operations. The thermal feedback loop overrides the optical feedback loop when the temperature of the light source becomes excessive.

  • Patent number: 7136556
Abstract: A fibre optic cable includes a core of primary coated optical fibres embedded in an inner layer of acrylate material, having sufficient tensile strength when cured to lock at least the outermost fibres in place and still allow the fibres to be easily broken out of the assembly for termination and splicing purposes. The hardness of the acrylate layer is such that at least the outermost fibres of the bundle are restricted from moving axially relative to the inner layer. The inner layer is then surrounded by a loose thin jacket formed from a mixture of high density polyethylene having a Shore hardness greater than or equal to 60 and a generally uniformly distributed slip agent, including a polyether modified poly (dimethylsiloxane) material such as polyether modified hydroxy functional poly (dimethylsiloxane) material. The mixture from which the outer layer is formed is compacted by means of heat and pressure.

  • Patent number: 7086147
Abstract: Solder balls such as, low melt C4 solder balls, undergo volume expansion during reflow, such as may occur during attachment of chip modules to a PCB. Where the solder balls are encapsulated, expansion pressure can cause damage to device integrity. A volume expansion region in the semiconductor chip substrate beneath each of the solder balls accommodated this volume expansion. Air-cushioned diaphgrams, deformable materials and non-wettable surfaces may be used to permit return of the solder during cooling to its original site. A porous medium with voids sufficient to accommodate expansion may also be used.

  • Patent number: 7076570
Abstract: A low-level function which enforces logical partitioning establishes a set of virtual indicator lights for certain physical components, the virtual indicator lights being only data in memory, a separate set of virtual indicator lights corresponding to each respective partition. Processes running in a partition can switch and sense the virtual indicator lights corresponding to the partition, but have no direct capability to either switch or to sense the virtual lights of any other partition. The low-level enforcement function alone can switch the state of the physical indicator light, which is generally the logical OR of the virtual indicator lights of the different partitions.

  • Patent number: 6992141
Abstract: Polymers containing ?-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as ?-methylenebutyrolactones are useful in blends with other polymers. For examples such polymers which have reactive groups are toughened by mixing with a rubbery material which has complimentary reactive groups, or polymers containing repeat units derived from ?-methylenelact(ones)(ams) are toughened by mixing with polymeric core-shell particles having an elastomeric core and a specified thermoplastic shell. The properties of thermoplastics are also improved by blending with ?-methylenelact(ones)(ams) such as ?-methylenebutyrolactones containing (co)polymers.

  • Patent number: 6947936
Abstract: A method and system is provided for categorization of an item. A plurality of categories is organized in a hierarchy of categories with a plurality of categorizers corresponding to the plurality of categories. A featurizer featurizes the item to create a list of item features. The list is used in a categorizer system, including the plurality of categorizers, for determining a plurality of levels of goodness. The item is categorized in the categorizer system in the plurality of categories based on the respective plurality of levels of goodness. The best categories are processed first, allowing termination at any time. The system successively refines an item down a hierarchy, until the features no longer support further refinement. The categories and the degree of support for the categories are provided.
