Patent number: 11442222Abstract: Improvements to gratings for use in waveguides and methods of producing them are described herein. Deep surface relief gratings (SRGs) may offer many advantages over conventional SRGs and Bragg gratings, an important one being a higher S-diffraction efficiency. In one embodiment, deep SRGs can be implemented as polymer surface relief gratings or evacuated Bragg gratings (EBGs). EBGs can be formed by first recording a holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal (HPDLC) grating. Removing the liquid crystal from the cured grating provides a polymer surface relief grating. Polymer surface relief gratings have many applications including for use in waveguide-based displays.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2020Date of Patent: September 13, 2022Assignee: DigiLens Inc.Inventors: Jonathan David Waldern, Alastair John Grant, Milan Momcilo Popovich, Shibu Abraham, Baeddan George Hill, Tsung-Jui Ho

Publication number: 20220006697Abstract: A tool is provided to generate one or more communication paths through one or more networks from a starting location to an ending location. The generated communication paths may be displayed for comparison by a user or computing device and, upon selection, the one or more networks may be configured or provisioned to instantiate a selected communication path in the networks. In particular, the selected communication path may be provided to one or more corresponding network configuration systems to communicate with the network devices in the communication path and alter the operating state of the network devices according to the communication path information. Some implementations of the network path tool may provide an auditing of diversity aspects of a network path or circuit that may receive network path information and display diversity audit information through any user interface utilized by the path computation tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2021Publication date: January 6, 2022Inventors: George HILL, Bryan HORNE, Jason CLEARY, Jason PARRIS, Andrew GLOVER

Publication number: 20210268756Abstract: Methods are disclosed for fabricating molds for forming eyepieces having waveguides with integrated spacers. The molds are formed by etching deep holes (e.g., 5 ?m to 1000 ?m deep) into a substrate using a wet etch or dry etch. The etch masks for defining the holes may be formed with a thick metal layer and/or multiple layers of different metals. A resist layer may be disposed over the etch mask. The resist layer may be patterned to form a pattern of holes, the pattern may be transferred to the etch mask, and the etch mask may be used to transfer the pattern into the underlying substrate. The patterned substrate may be utilized as a mold onto which a flowable polymer may be introduced and allowed to harden. Hardened polymer in the holes may form integrated spacers. The hardened polymer may be removed from the mold to form a waveguide with integrated spacers.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2021Publication date: September 2, 2021Inventors: Mauro Melli, Chieh Chang, Ling Li, Melanie Maputol West, Christophe Peroz, Ali Karbasi, Sharad D. Publication number: 20200400941Abstract: A head-mounted, near-eye display system comprises a stack of waveguides having integral spacers separating the waveguides. The waveguides may each include diffractive optical elements that are formed simultaneously with the spacers by imprinting or casting. The spacers are disposed on one or more major surfaces of the waveguides and define a distance between immediately adjacent waveguides. Adjacent waveguides may be bonded using adhesives on the spacers. The spacers may fit within indentations of overlying waveguides. In some cases, the spacers may form one or more walls of material substantially around a perimeter of an associated waveguide. Vent holes may be provided in the walls to allow gas flow into and out from an interior volume defined by the spacers. Debris trapping structures may be provided between two walls of spacers to trap and prevent debris from entering into the interior volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2020Publication date: December 24, 2020Inventors: Ling Li, Ali Karbasi, Christophe Peroz, Chieh Chang, Sharad D. Patent number: 8751409Abstract: The system and method described herein may securely disseminate and manage postal rate information, including discount or custom postal rates established in contractual agreements negotiated between a postal service and certain mailers, among other postal rate types. For example, the postal service may upload postal rates to a server associated with a postage vendor and optionally associate the postal rates with particular mailers. The postal service and/or postage vendor may then validate whether the postal rates were correctly uploaded, and the postage vendor may then enable applicable mailers to utilize the postal rates in response to validating that the postal rates were correctly uploaded. Additionally, the postage vendor may maintain records relating to postage transactions, which a mailer can use to support a request to negotiate the custom postal rates with the postal service and subsequently prove compliance with any terms and conditions associated therewith.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2011Date of Patent: June 10, 2014Assignee: PSI Systems, Inc.Inventors: George Hill, Richard Hernandez
