  • Publication number: 20060150680
Abstract: The present application relates to a method of making a glass panel that is partially printed with a plurality of layers in the form of a print pattern which subdivides the panel into a plurality of discrete printed areas and/or a plurality of discrete unprinted areas, said layers being in substantially exact registration. The substantially exact registration is achieved by the application to a sheet of glass of a plurality of superimposed layers, one of the layers containing a ceramic ink comprising glass frit, in a print pattern. The sheet of glass and plurality of layers applied thereto are subjected to a heat treatment process which causes the glass frit to fuse to the glass and bind at least one layer of ink within the print pattern. Any ink not within the print pattern is burnt off and/or vaporised during the hat treatment profess and/or removed by a subsequent finishing process, to leave the desired layers in substantially exact registration within the print pattern.

  • Publication number: 20060135059
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for connecting a set-top box (STB) to the Internet over existing and future wireless networks, combining television with wireless Internet access. A conventional television is used in combination with a STB that has a wireless or wired keyboard, a power supply, and audio/visual connections for connecting the STB to the television. In an embodiment, a wireless telephone is placed in a docking station on top of the STB, providing the user with both data (when docked) and voice capabilities (when being used simply for telephone calls). CDMA, CDPD, or other wireless technologies may used for connection to the Internet.

  • Patent number: 6899079
Abstract: A ball valve operable as an engine brake to resist high rpm operation of the engine on which it is installed. The ball valve has a noncontact seal and can include an aperture through a seal face to permit bypass of sufficient exhaust for operation of the engine at idle while the brake is engaged. If present, the aperture can be tuned, or sized, to provide a desired back pressure matched to a specific engine.

  • Patent number: 6687597
Abstract: A powertrain controller of a vehicle provides fuel injection pulses based on gasoline operation. The pulse widths of the fuel injection pulses are modified with reference to air temperature, engine speed, and exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) content to control fuel injectors for an alternative fuel such as natural gas. The EGO content, based on alternative fuel operation, is detected and compared to a desired air-fuel ratio or desired fuel trims to provide error information that is used to adjust the modification of the pulse widths. In response to the error information, a neural network (as an example) dynamically adjust the pulse widths of the alternative fuel injection based on the weights of measured, detected engine speed, EGO, universal exhaust gas oxygen, or air temperatures. The engine operating on alternative fuel is provided with the proper mixture of alternative fuel and air to respond to various engine loads and meet emission standards.

  • Patent number: 6416009
Abstract: A retractable hose reel assembly comprises a reel (2) rotatably mounted in a casing (1) and a torsion spring (8) for rotating the reel in a direction corresponding to winding of the hose on the reel (2). A ratchet (14) and pawl (18) prevent or limit rotational movement of the reel (2) in the winding direction. A lever (20) is manually movable to a locking position in which unwinding movement of the reel (2) is prevented, for example to prevent vandalism or to prevent a child pulling the hose from the reel and suffering discomfort or injury as a result of retraction of the hose by the spring (8).

  • Patent number: 6345476
Abstract: A pleated panel shutter system for an opening in a dwelling in which the pleated panel portions can be drawn to the side rendering the bulk of the opening available for ventilation, light, and the normal function of a window or a door. The pleated panel can be closed shut, and optionally locked, with securement against vandalism as well as high winds and flying debris damage, such as occurring in a hurricane. The strength of the pleated panels in the vertical orientation permits perforation over more than 50% of the surface of each of the panels, while still providing ample impact against winds up to 125 mph., and survive the impact test of a two by four (2×4) six (6) feet long fired at 34 mph. without deflecting more than 2½ inches.

  • Patent number: 5645448
Abstract: A battery connecting module mountable to an automotive vehicle battery provides electrical connection between a battery post, a cable leading to an alternator, one or more cables leading to vehicle electrical systems such as a fuse box and a starter motor, and a main fuse located inside the module and connecting the alternator cable with the other components. The battery connecting module protects the major engine compartment electrical connections from solid and liquid contaminants, and locates the main fuse in a manner which protects the alternator cable from short circuit conditions. Two of the cables are connected to the module by cable terminals which extend downward and into close proximity with the vertical battery side walls, thereby adding to the security of the battery connecting module's mounting on the battery.

  • Patent number: 5596849
Abstract: A shutter system and method in which the shutters are normally rolled to a nominal one foot width and have an infinite length, normally no less than two feet and no more than twelve feet is disclosed. These dimensions can be modified on one foot modules. The shutters are provided with a self-secured panel lock assembly at the overlapping joints on the inside between the shutter and windows normally on two foot spacing vertically. This can be horizontal, however, in other applications. The system includes the utilization of an angle frame at the base, and an overlapping receiver as a header. End caps may be of varying shapes but normally are typical L-shaped angles. An alternative system is direct mounted and omits the header and the footer, but must extend above and below the opening by a minimum of four inches for a twelve inch wide shutter panel, or two inches for a six inch wide shutter panel.

  • Patent number: 5160286
Abstract: A personnel transfer apparatus is provided herein. It includes a rigid but open personnel transfer chamber provided with a buoyant support for persons in water and is suitable for personnel transfer or for personnel evacuation and rescue. The apparatus includes a deck, a buoyant, shock-absorbing base supporting the deck, and a plurality of padded peripheral posts upstanding from the deck. These posts are used for lifting purposes. One of the posts is a central floatation, padded post. Such post is not to be used for lifting purposes. The posts provide a cage for surrounding personnel on the deck. The deck and the shock-absorbing base have sufficient buoyancy to support the whole chamber and deck in the water with the deck disposed slightly below the water level.
