  • Publication number: 20120166411
Abstract: A search engine discovers and indexes applications in a search index and receives queries from devices. The search engine is configured to obtain contextual data describing context associated with the devices and/or social networking data associated with one or more users of the devices. Based upon the contextual data and/or the social networking data, the search engine modifies the query and executes the query to identify applications. The search engine generates search results corresponding to the identified applications. The search engine also is configured to generate advertising relevant to the modified query, and to rank the search results in accordance with the query, the contextual data, and/or the social networking data. The ranked search results and the advertising are presented to the client as search results and/or in a web store format. Activity of the client and the search engine can be tracked and reported to authorized entities.

  • Patent number: 8156472
Abstract: A reflective process algebra called the ?-calculus facilitates the serialization of processes at the level of the reflective process algebra. The reflective process algebra because of its reflective properties, can be used on computing systems with finite resources. The reflective process calculus can be made to be sensitive to resources, such as memory and bandwidth, hence facilitating its use as a programming language at the machine level. The reflective process calculus causes the dual nature of a computation entity to be exposed. A name can be caused to become a process and a process can be caused to become a name.

  • Patent number: 8131844
Abstract: Computer-readable media, computer systems, and computing devices for providing customer intelligence data to a developer of an application that runs on a cloud operating environment associated with an online services provider. The online services provider collects customer information about customers, each of whom is identified by a customer ID. A developer uploads an application, having a corresponding application ID, and manages the application using resources associated with the cloud operating environment. An analysis module creates a three-way mapping between the application ID, customer IDs corresponding to customers that use the application, and customer intelligence data associated with the customer IDs. Using this mapping, the system presents the developer with customer intelligence information based on the customer intelligence data.

  • Publication number: 20100191599
Abstract: Technology is described for local ad targeting. An engine executing on a client computing device may select ads based on rules that can be modified without modifying the engine. The engine can select from advertisements stored locally based on data discovered at the client computing device, such as by observing the user's actions, stored documents, state of the client computing device and/or its peripherals, etc. The technology can employ plug-ins to extend functionality provided by the engine. The technology can include a plug-in manager that manages plug-ins. The technology can also download and manage rules. Each rule can specify what actions to take, such as when an event occurs. When a component of the operating system observes an event, the engine (or a rule executor component associated with the engine) executes each related rule. The technology can thus select ads based on arbitrary events of the operating system, applications, or other components.

  • Publication number: 20090290658
Abstract: A method generating a digital waveform, pulse generators and VNAs based thereon are disclosed. The digital waveform is generated in response to user-supplied parameters defining a sawtooth chirp signal. A digital baseband chirp signal that depends on the input parameters is first generated and then the digital baseband signal is upconverted to a center frequency to form an upconverted chirp signal. The upconverted chirp signal is then converted to an M-ary signal having M levels and then (optionally) filtered through a band pass filter to attenuate frequency components of the digital chirp signal outside a predetermined band of frequencies. The digital baseband chirp signal can also include the sum of first and second chirp signals having amplitudes and phase determined to reduce variations in amplitude as a function of frequency in a predetermined band of frequencies.

  • Patent number: 7467206
Abstract: A system and method for automating the web service selection based on reputation information, to help negotiate a contractual web service binding between a client and a server. Reputation information may be schematized into behavioral attributes such as web service responsiveness, web service latency, web service uptime, cost data, business solvency and other trustworthiness and business-related data. Some of the reputation data may be empirically determined, and provided by an independent or other trusted auditor. In one implementation, a client queries a search engine, which returns a ranked list of web services, with the ranking based on reputation scores computed for each web service as collected by an auditor. Clients may provide computational data to weigh the attributes separately. A corporate internet can maintain reputation data for web services to act as an auditor, and a web service server can also execute trusted code to act as an auditor.

  • Publication number: 20080107907
Abstract: A low refractive index composition that forms a low refractive index layer on an optical display is formed having a co-crosslinked interpenetrating polymer network of a fluoropolymer phase and an acrylate phase. The fluoropolymer phase is preferably formed from fluoropolymers based on THV or FKM and having either a degree of unsaturation and/or containing a reactive cure site monomer in its polymer backbone. The acrylate phase includes a multifunctional acrylate crosslinker, and more preferably includes a perfluoropolyether acrylate crosslinker. The formed low refractive index layer has improved interfacial adhesion to other layers or substrates contained in the optical display. Further, the mechanical strength and scratch resistance of the either of above low refractive index compositions can be further enhanced through the incorporation of surface functionalized inorganic particle into the formed layer.

  • Publication number: 20080071912
Abstract: Multiple copies of web services reside on associated computing devices, each having an associated reputation. A client may desire to access the web service having the highest or best reputation to be ensured of a greater degree of accuracy and confidence. The client does a search, and attaches to whichever web service has the highest reputation. By running multiple copies of the web services, they may vote amongst themselves on the results in the event that one or more of the services starts giving incorrect or otherwise inconsistent results. Combining the voting with reputation data associated with each copy of the web service allows a service's reputation to be dynamically adjusted based upon how faithfully it computes the results of work items sent to it.
