Patent number: 6360804Abstract: A hand tool for applying adhesive strip material to a glass sheet in the fabrication of double glazed windows has a body with a channel extending through the lower side thereof to guide an adhesive strip therethrough and a positioning member adjacent the channel for guiding the tool along the edge of a glass sheet. An adjustable wheel applies pressure on the strip to urge it to adhere with the glass sheet and a cutting mechanism mounted on the body is selectively operable for partially cutting the strip (as when the strip has to be bent through 90° at a corner of the glass sheet) and for fully cutting the strip (as when the strip applying step has been completed). The tool includes a pusher element carried adjacent one side of the channel and selectively operable to push the strip in the channel laterally into a side extension into full registration with the cutter when it is desired to settle the strip at the end of the strip applying operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1999Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Edgetech I.G. Patent number: 6295788Abstract: An insert for a glazing unit includes a body having a width and a height. The insert is configured to fit within the spacer of the glazing unit. A typical glazing unit has at least two outer glazing sheets separated by a substantially rigid, U-shaped spacer disposed about the perimeter of the sheets to create an interior cavity between the outer sheets and the spacer. The width and height of the body of the insert are adapted to allow the insert to fit within the U-shaped spacer. The spacer has a longitudinal length dimension substantially equal to the perimeter of the glazing sheets. The body of the insert also has a longitudinal length dimension substantially equal to the length of the spacer. The body of the insert is fabricated from a non-flowable material having substantially stable dimensions. Patent number: 6116315Abstract: In applying an adhesive strip to a surface border at the periphery of a glass sheet a method comprises the steps of locating the glass sheet in the generally upright position and providing a hand tool that is adapted to be manipulated manually by the operator to apply the adhesive strip around the edges of the sheet. The strip is delivered from an overhead supply in a continuous length and is applied as the operator manipulates the hand tool to pass along the periphery of the sheet. The glass sheet can be arranged to be moved vertically and/or horizontally to make the strip application process more convenient for the operator.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Edgetech I.G. Patent number: 5315797Abstract: There is described a multiple-pane glazing unit which has top and bottom edges and two side edges and two or more, parallel glazing sheets enclosing a vertical cavity, or cavities. A convective-flow barrier is positioned adjacent to the bottom edge of the glazing sheets within the cavity, or cavities. The barrier is a strip-like member, dimensioned to be in sealing contact, in cold temperature conditions, with both glazing sheets which form a cavity between them. The strip is of a selected material, or of a physical configuration, such that it is flexible of itself or has a flexible edge or edges to accommodate variations in cavity width caused by, say, temperature changes along the length of the barrier. A second similar convective-flow barrier may be positioned adjacent and parallel to the top edge of the unit within the cavity and indeed, intermediate barriers may also be provided between top and bottom barriers and parallel thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1991Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Lauren Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Michael Glover, Gerhard Reichert

Patent number: 5129185Abstract: A method for the precision working of the tooth flanks of particularly hardened gears (workpiece W) with a gearlike tool, the tooth flanks of which tool have an abrasive surface and which rotates in mesh with the workpiece (W). In order to avoid damage to the tool caused by remaining burrs or the like in the tooth system of the workpiece (W), a twin tool with axially spaced similar tools is utilized, individual ones of the similar tools are used one after the other. The first tool removes thereby first the remaining burrs and the like and the second tool performs thereafter the actual precision working.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1991Date of Patent: July 14, 1992Assignee: HurthMaschinen und Werkzeuge G.m.b.H.Inventors: Manfred Erhardt, Gerhard Reichert, Herbert Loos, Josef Lohrer

Patent number: 5007217Abstract: There is described a multiple pane insulated sealed glazing unit having two or more glazing sheets which are maintained parallel and spaced apart by a resilient spacing and sealing assembly which runs around the periphery of the sheets. An insulating airspace is thus formed between the sheets. The assembly includes an inner spacer sandwiched between the sheets and located inwardly of the glazing edges, creating an outwardly facing perimeter channel. The inner spacer is comprised of a moisture permeable foam material which may be flexible or semi-rigid. The spacer contains desiccant material and has a pressure sensitive adhesive preapplied on two opposite sides adjacent the sheets. The inwardly directed face of the spacer is reistant to ultra-violet radiation and the spacer can be coiled for storage. The assembly also has an outer sealing filling in the channel. In a preferred embodiment the spacer is substantially backed with a flexible vapor and gas barrier coating, sheet or film.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Assignee: Lauren Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Michael Glover, Gerhard Reichert

Patent number: 4994309Abstract: There is described a multiple layer sealed glazing unit comprising two or more glazing layers arranged in a parallel spaced apart relation, with an insulating spacer made of oriented thermoplastic polymer material interposed between the separate glazing layers and adjacent to the periphery thereof. The required physical properties of the insulating spacer are substantially governed by controlling the degree and directions or orientation of the molecular structure of the thermoplastic material or materials from which it is formed. Typically, the orientation of the polymer material used to manufacture the insulating spacer is largely in the longitudinal axis of the spacer. There is also described an insulating spacer for multiple layer sealed units.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: Lauren Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Gerhard Reichert, Michael Glover

Patent number: 4649671Abstract: A method for the manufacture or machining of the tooth system of straight or helically toothed, externally or internally toothed, nonhardened or hardened workpiece with a toothed tool, the tooth flanks of which are coated with a cubic boron nitride (CBN). The workpiece and the tool roll along with a single-flank contact and are supported by a guide-gear pair which also roll along with a single-flank contact. The contacting flanks of the workpiece-tool pair are the mating flanks for the contacting flanks of the guide-gear pair. To protect the CNB-coating, the tool is already driven at a speed which is necessary for an optimum chip removal before the tool tooth flanks start to work on the workpiece tooth flanks.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Carl Hurth Maschinen und Zahnradfabrik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Manfred Erhardt, Herbert Loos, Gerhard Reichert
