  • Publication number: 20220104303
Abstract: According to certain embodiments, a target network node for communicating with a user equipment (UE) that was previously in communication with a source network node, comprises an interface operably coupled to processing circuitry. The interface is configured to receive a connection resume request from the user equipment, wherein the connection resume request comprises a resume identification associated with the source network node. The processing circuitry is configured to determine that the UE was previously in communication with the source network node. The interface is further configured to transmit the connection resume request to the source network node, receive a radio resource control (RRC) response from the source network node, and forward the RRC response to the UE.

  • Publication number: 20220095156
Abstract: A method performed by a first radio network node for handling communication in a wireless communications network providing, is provided. The wireless communications network comprises the first radio network node (131) and a second radio network node (132) relaying data packets between a central network node (12) and a UE (10). The first radio network node is an intermediate network node between the second radio network node and the central network node. The first radio network node detects (701) congestion over a link towards the second radio network node. Upon detection of the congestion the first radio network node adds a marking in a header in a data packet and transmits (702) the data packet towards the second radio network node.

  • Publication number: 20220095412
Abstract: Embodiments include methods in a wireless device. Such methods include, while the wireless device is in an RRC inactive state with respect to a wireless communication network, determining that updates are needed for the wireless device's access stratum (AS) and non-access stratum (NAS). For example, the AS update can be a RAN notification area update (RNAU) and the NAS update can be a tracking area update (TAU). Such methods include transmitting, to the wireless communication network, a request to resume an RRC connected state with the wireless communication network. The request includes a cause indicator that indicates mobility signaling as a cause for resuming the RRC connected state. Such methods also include receiving, from the wireless communication network, a response to the request to resume the RRC connected state and initiating the NAS update based on the response. Other embodiments include wireless devices configured to perform such methods.

  • Publication number: 20220095405
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a host providing an over-the-top service. An example host includes processing circuitry to provide user data associated with the service and a network interface to initiate transmission of the user data from a network node in a cellular network. The network node is configured to provide a Radio Resource Control connection re-establishment message to a user equipment (UE) previously connected to the RAN via Signaling Radio Bearer 1 (SRB1). SRB1 is configured with a New Radio Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) configuration. After the UE receives the RRC connection re-establishment message, the UE derives security keys. The network node is further configured to re-establish the UE's connection to the RAN, by applying a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) PDCP configuration to SRB1 and applying ciphering using the plurality of derived security keys, and to transmit the user data over the re-established connection.

  • Patent number: 11252561
Abstract: A Radio Access Network (RAN) node instructs a wireless device having a connection to the RAN node to transition from a connected Radio Resource Control (RRC) state to an inactive RRC state in which key information supporting the connection, and a further connection to a Core Network (CN) node serving the wireless device, are maintained. Responsive to the wireless device returning to the connected RRC state, the RAN node requests new key material from the CN node, and replaces the key material supporting the connection with the new key material received from the CN node.

  • Publication number: 20220007255
Abstract: A wireless device and method for re-establishing a radio connection in a communications network comprising a first RAT and a different second RAT. The wireless device is operating in a first cell served by a first radio network node operating in the first RAT. When a connection failure with the first cell is detected, the wireless device performs a cell selection and selects a second cell served by a second radio network node operating in the second RAT. The second cell is known by the wireless device to be a candidate for re-establishment. The wireless device determines a first set of parameters to be used as an identifier of the wireless device, wherein the first set of parameters is associated with the first cell. The wireless device transmits, to the second cell, a re-establishment request message comprising the first set of parameters.

  • Patent number: 11218880
Abstract: A wireless communication device (16) is configured for use in a wireless communication system (10). The wireless communication device (16) is configured to receive control signaling (22) that indicates a certain wait time (24) for which the wireless communication device (16) is required to wait before sending a certain control message (20) to network equipment (18). A subset of possible wait times must be indicated by integrity-protected control signaling. The wireless communication device (16) may therefore also be configured to accept or reject the certain wait time (24) as being required before sending the certain control message (20), based on whether the received control signaling (22) was integrity protected and on whether the certain wait time (24) is included in the subset of possible wait times which must be indicated by integrity-protected control signaling.

  • Patent number: 11219084
Abstract: According to an aspect, a wireless device determines, while in an RRC Inactive state, that a Radio Access Network Notification Area Update, RNAU, is needed. The wireless device further evaluates whether there is any other cause for resuming an RRC connected state, in addition to the need for the RNAU. The wireless device transmits an RRC Resume Request message to the network, in response to the determining. The RRC Resume Request message includes a cause indicator indicating an RNAU as a cause for resuming a RRC Connected state in the event that said evaluating identifies no other cause for resuming the RRC connected state.

  • Patent number: 11206539
Abstract: Methods, User Equipment, UE, (120) and source network node (111) for re-establishing a Radio Resource Control, RRC, connection to a target cell in a wireless communications network (100), The UE generates a security token using a set of input parameters, and sends a re-establishment request with the security token to a target network node (112) serving the target cell. When receiving the re-establishment request, the source network node generates a security token using a set of input parameters in the same manner as the UE. If the received security token is successfully verified when compared with the generated security token, the source network node provides to the target network node a UE context of the UE, to enable the target network node to re-establish the RRC connection.
