  • Publication number: 20220141731
Abstract: A wireless device suspends a connection with a first access network and enters an inactive state. While the connection with the first access network is suspended and the wireless device is in the inactive state, the wireless device camps in a specific area of a second wireless communication network that is included in a notification area within which the wireless device is allowed to move without notifying either the second wireless communication network or a first wireless communication network that includes the first access network. Upon camping in the specific area, the wireless device starts a timer. Responsive to expiry of the timer, the wireless device switches from the inactive state to an idle state and/or transmits to the second access network signaling indicating that the wireless device is in the specific area or that the wireless device requests a connection to the second access network.

  • Publication number: 20220141910
Abstract: A method and network node for backhaul link failure recovery are disclosed. A network node is configured to attempt to find an alternative backhaul link to replace the failed backhaul link. If the attempt to find an alternative backhaul link fails, then the network node communicates a first indication of an existence of the failure to the first child network node one level below the network node affected by the failure and causes the first child network node to find another network node to serve as a new parent network node. If the first child network node finds another node to serve as the new parent network node then the network node is configured to serve as a second child network node of the first child network node so that the first child network node serves as a parent of the network node.

  • Patent number: 11324063
Abstract: According to an aspect, a user equipment, UE, in a suspended state in a Radio Access Network, RAN, in response to expiration of a first timer, transmits (1910) an RRCResumeRequest message. The UE receives (1920) a reject message in response to the RRCResumeRequest message. In response to the reject message, the UE starts (1930) a second timer and subsequently transmits (1940) a further RRCResumeRequest message. The further RRCResumeRequest message is received by the network during a period hounded approximately by the lesser of a duration of the second timer and a period of the periodic UE event and the greater of the duration of the second timer and the period of the periodic UE event.

  • Publication number: 20220095405
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a host providing an over-the-top service. An example host includes processing circuitry to provide user data associated with the service and a network interface to initiate transmission of the user data from a network node in a cellular network. The network node is configured to provide a Radio Resource Control connection re-establishment message to a user equipment (UE) previously connected to the RAN via Signaling Radio Bearer 1 (SRB1). SRB1 is configured with a New Radio Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) configuration. After the UE receives the RRC connection re-establishment message, the UE derives security keys. The network node is further configured to re-establish the UE's connection to the RAN, by applying a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) PDCP configuration to SRB1 and applying ciphering using the plurality of derived security keys, and to transmit the user data over the re-established connection.

  • Publication number: 20220095412
Abstract: Embodiments include methods in a wireless device. Such methods include, while the wireless device is in an RRC inactive state with respect to a wireless communication network, determining that updates are needed for the wireless device's access stratum (AS) and non-access stratum (NAS). For example, the AS update can be a RAN notification area update (RNAU) and the NAS update can be a tracking area update (TAU). Such methods include transmitting, to the wireless communication network, a request to resume an RRC connected state with the wireless communication network. The request includes a cause indicator that indicates mobility signaling as a cause for resuming the RRC connected state. Such methods also include receiving, from the wireless communication network, a response to the request to resume the RRC connected state and initiating the NAS update based on the response. Other embodiments include wireless devices configured to perform such methods.
