  • Patent number: 11184814
Abstract: A radio device configures a radio connection between the radio device and a cellular network. The radio connection is registered for a cell area comprising at least a first cell and a second cell of the cellular network. Before a decision of the radio device to perform a change from the first cell to the second cell, the radio device determines a configuration which enables performing allocation of radio resources to the radio device via a control channel of the second cell. After the change of the radio device from the first cell to the second cell, the radio device resumes transmission on the radio connection by requesting allocation of radio resources of second cell based on the determined configuration.

  • Publication number: 20210352531
Abstract: Systems and methods for redirecting Radio Resource Control (RRC) messages in a wireless system that uses Central Unit (CU)/Distributed Unit (DU) splitting and either network sharing or network slicing are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method performed by a shared Distributed Unit (DU) comprises receiving a RRC message from a User Equipment (UE) and sending a first DU-to-Central Unit (CU) message to a first CU, where the first DU-to-CU message comprises the RRC message. The method further comprises either obtaining an indication that the first CU is a wrong CU for the RRC message or determining that the first CU is a wrong CU for the RRC message. The method further comprises sending another DU-to-CU message to a second CU, where the other DU-to-CU message comprises the RRC message or a RRC message related to the RRC message.

  • Publication number: 20210345436
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed for a user equipment. An example method performed by a user equipment includes establishing a connection to a Radio Access Network (RAN) via a first network node. Communications are provided over the connection using Signaling Radio Bearer 1 (SRB1) configured with a New Radio (NR) Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP). After the connection is suspended, the user equipment receives a Radio Resource Control (RRC) connection re-establishment message from a second network node. The connection re-establishment message includes a radioResourceConfigDedicated information element (IE). The user equipment re-establishes the connection to the RAN by applying a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) PDCP configuration to SRB1, performing a radio resource configuration procedure in accordance with the radioResourceConfigDedicated IE, and sending an RRC connection re-establishment complete message to the second network node.

  • Publication number: 20210345336
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to frequency or RAT selection based on slice availability. In one aspect, a core network function is provided for determining information for RAT and/or frequency selection based on knowledge of network slices and providing that information to a RAN node, which may provide that information to a UE. The information may be a RFSP index or other index parameter, which may be set based on subscription related information or other information. Slice knowledge may include knowledge of availability of network slices at the network, active slices for the UE, slices to which the UE is registered or connected, and/or slices to which the UE is allowed access. In another aspect, a RAN node performs mapping to mobility policies for UE active or idle mobility based on the determined information along with slice or subscription information provided by a CN node.

  • Patent number: 11166164
Abstract: Methods are provided for a User Equipment, UE, in NR RRC to revert back to an old security context if an RRC Resume procedure from an inactive state fails. In this way, any subsequent Resume attempts by the UE will derive new security keys from the old keys, which means that the keys and security context will be the same for each attempt. In this way, the security context in the UE will remain synchronized with the network security context, regardless of how many attempts the UE has performed (assuming the network does not change the security context when the Resume procedure fails). Alternatively, the UE may store the new security context it derives during the first Resume attempt, and then ensure that it is reused at subsequent Resume attempts.

  • Publication number: 20210337436
Abstract: A method for inter-Radio Access Technology (RAT) handover comprises preparing, at a target node, a reconfiguration message based on that the target node is inter-RAT and intra-system to a source node, and sending, to the source node, the reconfiguration message for forwarding the reconfiguration message to a user equipment (UE). The reconfiguration message comprises configuration for reconfiguring lower layer at the UE and further keeps the UE from reconfiguring upper-layer configuration. The target node disclosed in the method prepares a reconfiguration message specific to different types of RAT combination and system between the source node and the target node to provide loss-less and in-order data delivery during and after the handover.

  • Patent number: 11160132
Abstract: According to certain embodiments, a target network node for communicating with a user equipment (UE) that was previously in communication with a source network node, comprises an interface operably coupled to processing circuitry. The interface is configured to receive a connection resume request from the user equipment, wherein the connection resume request comprises a resume identification associated with the source network node. The processing circuitry is configured to determine that the UE was previously in communication with the source network node. The interface is further configured to transmit the connection resume request to the source network node, receive a radio resource control (RRC) response from the source network node, and forward the RRC response to the UE.

  • Publication number: 20210328775
Abstract: A method in a User Equipment (UE) of an Evolved Packet System (EPS) establishes a security key (K_eNB) for protecting Radio Resource Control/User Plane (RRC/UP) traffic exchanged with a serving eNodeB. The method comprises sending a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) Service Request to a Mobility Management Entity (MME), the request indicating a NAS uplink sequence number (NAS_U_SEQ). The method further comprises receiving an indication of the NAS_U_SEQ of the NAS Service Request sent to the MME, back from the MME via the eNodeB. The method further comprises deriving the K_eNB from at least the received indication of the NAS_U_SEQ and from a stored Access Security Management Entity-key (K_ASME) shared with said MME.

  • Patent number: 11153807
Abstract: An access node (111, 112) of a cellular network transmits an identifier (502, 505) enabling selection of access information from an access information table. The access information is applicable by a radio device (10) for accessing the cellular network. Further, the access node transmits (501, 504) timing information indicating a time of a next transmission of the access information table. Depending on the timing information, the radio device (10) may decide whether to switch to another carrier frequency or to wait on a currently used carrier frequency to receive the access information table.

  • Publication number: 20210315030
Abstract: A radio network equipment central unit (20, 1700) receives a message (15) that indicates an update to a transport layer address of a radio network equipment distributed unit (10, 1600) from an old transport layer address (12A) to a new transport layer address (12B). The message (15) indicates the old transport layer address (12A) and indicates the new transport layer address (12B). The message (15) may be received from the radio network equipment distributed unit (10, 1600), or from a distributed unit of an integrated access backhaul donor. Regardless, for each of multiple user plane bearers or transport layer tunnels that are associated with the old transport layer address (12A), the radio network equipment central unit (20, 1700) may update a transport layer address of that bearer or tunnel from the old transport layer address (12A) to the new transport layer address (12B).

  • Publication number: 20210298110
Abstract: According to an aspect, a user equipment, UE, in a suspended state in a Radio Access Network, RAN, in response to expiration of a first timer, transmits an RRCResumeRequest message. The UE receives a reject message in response to the RRCResumeRequest message. In response to the reject message, the UE starts a second timer and subsequently transmits a further RRCResumeRequest message. The further RRCResumeRequest message is received by the network during a period bounded approximately by the lesser of a duration of the second timer and a period of the periodic UE event and the greater of the duration of the second timer and the period of the periodic UE event.
