  • Publication number: 20200337050
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to frequency or RAT selection based on slice availability. In one aspect, a core network function is provided for determining information for RAT and/or frequency selection based on knowledge of network slices and providing that information to a RAN node, which may provide that information to a UE. The information may be a RFSP index or other index parameter, which may be set based on subscription related information or other information. Slice knowledge may include knowledge of availability of network slices at the network, active slices for the UE, slices to which the UE is registered or connected, and/or slices to which the UE is allowed access. In another aspect, a RAN node performs mapping to mobility policies for UE active or idle mobility based on the determined information along with slice or subscription information provided by a CN node.

  • Patent number: 10805856
Abstract: A central unit (300A) and a first distributed unit (300B) of a first network node (300) and methods therein, for handling a communication with a wireless device (302) in a wireless network. The central unit (300A) sends an indication to the first distributed unit (300B) to indicate whether a current procedure for the wireless device is an inter-central unit procedure or an intra-central unit procedure. The first distributed unit (300B) is thereby able to decide whether to send information about the communication to the central unit via a user plane or via a control plane, based on a reduced amount of signalling including the indication.

  • Patent number: 10805785
Abstract: Methods, a core network node (104A) and a node (102A) in a radio access network, RAN, (102), for enabling emergency services for wireless devices in the RAN. The core network node (104A) sends (2:1), to the RAN node (102A), information about one or more Access and Mobility Management Functions, AMFs, that support emergency services, to avoid an emergency fallback procedure for wireless devices in the RAN. The RAN node (102A) then selects (2:2) an AMF (104B) that supports emergency services for a wireless device (100) in the RAN, based on the received information. Thereby, the wireless device will have immediate access to emergency services and no delaying emergency fallback procedure is performed which could be critical in an emergency situation.

  • Publication number: 20200288423
Abstract: A method by a UE is provided to handle communication in a network, wherein the UE is capable of receiving a registration area configuration including area identifiers associated with different cells of different RATs. The UE receives, from a network node, a first mobile identifier and a second mobile identifier in a message during a transition of states of the UE, wherein the first mobile identifier is of a first length and the second mobile identifier is of a second length different than the first length. Furthermore, the UE uses the first mobile identifier to resume to a first network node of a first RAT in the registration area configuration of the UE, and the second mobile identifier to resume to a second network node of a second RAT in the registration area configuration of the UE.

  • Patent number: 10757678
Abstract: According to certain embodiments, a method by a first network node is provided for enabling paging of a user equipment (UE) in an inactive state. The method includes the first network node receiving a UE identity index value for the UE while the UE is in a connected state or during an initial context setup for the UE. The UE identity index value is stored. The method further includes transitioning the UE from the connected state to an inactive state and using the UE identity index value that was stored while the UE was in the connected state to initiate a transmission of a page to the UE in the inactive state.

  • Publication number: 20200267787
Abstract: A UE operating in a RAN may be configured to receive new radio, NR, radio resource control, RRC, messages from a secondary network node. The NR RRC messages may each contain a number that the secondary network node added to the NR RRC messages to indicate their respective order in a sequence which the NR RRC messages were sent by the secondary network node. The NR RRC messages may each contain parameters that the UE uses to configure its communications through a NR interface with the secondary network node. The UE may send NR RRC complete messages toward the secondary network node responsive to receipt of the NR RRC messages, wherein the NR RRC complete messages each contain an indication of the NR RRC message that was received. The UE may control the sending of the NR RRC complete messages to indicate to the secondary network node whether the NR RRC messages are received in an order that is the same as the sequence.

  • Publication number: 20200260348
Abstract: A method for avoiding unnecessary actions in a connection establishment comprises sending a request to a network node to initiate the connection establishment, upon sending the request to the network node, starting a timer for the connection establishment, wherein an expiration of the timer stops the connection establishment for a user equipment (UE), and stopping the timer to stop the connection establishment upon the UE receiving a suspend message or a release message, or upon the UE performing a cell reselection procedure while the timer is running. The timer may prevent the UE from waiting the connection establishment to be completed if there is an error or bad transmission in the connection establishment. Furthermore, the timer to stop the connection establishment may avoid unnecessary actions and inform other layers in the network when the timer expires to stop the connection establishment.
