  • Patent number: 10506552
Abstract: A method performed by a core network node for handling communication for a wireless device in a communication network, wherein the communication network comprises partitioned sets of functionalities. A first set of functionalities belongs to a first network slice supporting the wireless device, and a second set of functionalities belongs to a second network slice supporting the wireless device, and which first and second sets of functionalities are separated from one another and other sets of functionalities. The core network node obtains a common identity for defining paging occasion for the wireless device for paging from the first network slice and the second network slice. The core network node receives a paging request for the wireless device from the first network slice when the wireless device is in idle mode, and the core network node initiates a paging procedure of the wireless device by using the obtained common identity.

  • Patent number: 10498502
Abstract: This disclosure relates a method and a base station for network sharing using carrier aggregation. The base station of a multi-carrier system comprises a multiple of cells, where each cell corresponds to a carrier that is associated with a PLMN. The base station receives (302, S-424, S-516, S-616) a UE request with information of a UE (402, 502, 602), where a first cell of said multiple of cells corresponds to a first carrier. The base station determines (304, S-428, S-520, S-626) based on base station settings and/or UE information, whether an other carrier associated with a different PLMN is available to said UE. If so, the base station sends (306, S-430, S-440, S-524, S-530) a resource configuration message destined for said UE (402, 502, 602), enabling said UE to configure said other carrier as a SCC. Better coverage, peak rates and capacity, without suffering from the drawbacks of existing RAN sharing techniques, are provided.

  • Publication number: 20190349834
Abstract: A node maps end-user bearers to backhaul bearers in an adaptation layer. The node maps a plurality of end-user bearers to backhaul bearers in consideration of QoS classes for the end-user bearers and a distance from the node to a destination relay node for each of the plurality of end-user bearers, such that at least one of the backhaul bearers carries end-user bearers with different QoS classes and different distances to the destination relay node. The distance from the node to the destination relay node for at least one of the end-user bearers may be considered in terms of a number of remaining hops from the node to the destination relay node and/or in terms of an estimated end-to-end delay from the node to the destination relay node.

  • Patent number: 10469353
Abstract: A first node (110) and a method therein for managing modes of operation of a service, referred to as “service modes” are disclosed. The service is executed in the first node (110). The service is capable of communicating with a second node (120) over a wireless network (100). The first node (110) receives an estimated level of a connectivity for the service from the wireless network (100). The estimated level of the connectivity relates to likelihood of maintaining the connectivity to the second node (120). The first node (110) selects one of the service modes based on the estimated level of the connectivity. Moreover, corresponding computer programs and computer program products are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10454686
Abstract: A core network node identifies a non-USIM based authentication procedure to be utilized by a wireless communication device, WCD, being served by the core network node. The node obtains a session key associated with the identified non-USIM based authentication procedure. The node converts the session key associated with the identified non-USIM based authentication procedure to i) a first key, K1, for use by the WCD and a base station serving the WCD to derive an encryption or integrity protection key, Kenc/int, for enabling encryption or integrity protection of a communication between the WCD and the base station or ii) a second key, K2, for use by the WCD and the core network node to derive the first key K1. The node then send i) K1 to the base station or ii) K2 to another core network node that is configured to derive K1 from K2.

  • Publication number: 20190320316
Abstract: Methods are provided for a User Equipment, UE, in NR RRC to revert back to an old security context if an RRC Resume procedure from an inactive state fails. In this way, any subsequent Resume attempts by the UE will derive new security keys from the old keys, which means that the keys and security context will be the same for each attempt. In this way, the security context in the UE will remain synchronized with the network security context, regardless of how many attempts the UE has performed (assuming the network does not change the security context when the Resume procedure fails). Alternatively, the UE may store the new security context it derives during the first Resume attempt, and then ensure that it is reused at subsequent Resume attempts.

  • Publication number: 20190320412
Abstract: According to certain embodiments, a method by a first network node is provided for enabling paging of a user equipment (UE) in an inactive state. The method includes the first network node receiving a UE identity index value for the UE while the UE is in a connected state or during an initial context setup for the UE. The UE identity index value is stored. The method further includes transitioning the UE from the connected state to an inactive state and using the UE identity index value that was stored while the UE was in the connected state to initiate a transmission of a page to the UE in the inactive state.
