  • Publication number: 20150078301
Abstract: A method, device, and computer program product for facilitating device-to-device, D2D, communication among wireless communication devices, WCDs, is provided. The device is a first WCD that receives a wireless packet broadcasted by a second WCD. The wireless packet has one or more of i) a group identifier that identifies a group to which the second WCD belongs and ii) an application identifier that identifies an application which generated at least part of the wireless packet. The first WCD extracts from the wireless packet one or more of the group identifier and the application identifier. The first WCD determines whether to discard the wireless packet based on the one or more of the group identifier and the application identifier extracted from the wireless packet.

  • Publication number: 20150038153
Abstract: A server for controlling user MTC devices. The server ascertains if a user MTC device has an IP connection to a cellular access network, and if so, sends a message to trigger the user MTC device to initiate an application defined in the message. If a user MTC device does not have an IP connection, the server ascertains if the user MTC device is a mobile or a stationary user MTC device, and for a stationary user MTC device, the server sends a message to the cellular access network to trigger the user MTC device to initiate an IP connection, and for a mobile user MTC device, waits until the user MTC device has an IP connection, and for both kinds of user MTC devices, when the user MTC device has an IP connection, transmits a message to the user MTC device to initiate an application defined in the message.

  • Publication number: 20140204908
Abstract: A method of selecting a target core network of a communication network for handing over a voice session of a terminal from a packet switched source radio access network (RAN) to a target RAN. The voice session is anchored in an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem, and the selected target core network includes a circuit switched domain which is associated with the target RAN and supports voice session continuity to hand over the voice session from the source RAN to the target RAN. The target RAN is associated with a network identification of the target core network. The method is executed by a node and includes receiving a network identification of at least one target core network associated with at least one target RAN. The target core network is selected based on an indicated support of voice session continuity by the network identification.

  • Patent number: 8724585
Abstract: The present invention relates to providing a generic control plane in a GTP mobility protocol in a core network. When a type of user plane is detected, a user plane parameter is provided in a control plane message header. The user plane message indicates the type of user plane. Functions, parameters and messages are provided according to the indicated type of user plane. Thus, e.g. easier hand over between different access networks can be provided and an optimization of the user plane implementation in an edge node.

  • Patent number: 8626235
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a method and system for operating a dual mode terminal that includes a wireless local area network interface and a cellular radio interface. According to an embodiment, the dual mode terminal camps on the cellular radio interface when idle. When a Page Request message is received over the cellular radio interface, the terminal determines whether wireless local area network coverage is possible from an access point providing wireless local area network cellular communication. If so, the terminal processes the incoming communication request over the wireless local area network towards another party, wherein then the communication is ended, the terminal goes back to camp on the cellular channel.

  • Patent number: 8503312
Abstract: A method is provided for facilitating recovery from the failure of a P-CSCF within an IP multimedia Subsystem network. A gateway, such as a GGSN, monitors signals arriving at the gateway from the P-CSCF and provides an indication if the monitored signals become unacceptable, for example because of an interruption in the signals. The gateway responds by signalling the unavailability of the P-CSCF to user equipment, which was associated with the P-CSCF during a previous registration with the IMS network. In response, for example, the user equipment affected by the failure may request re-registration with the IMS network using a different available P-CSCF.
